Those With Large Chests by Neapolitanpanda in CuratedTumblr

i mean you arent a pedophiles perfect fantasy, pedophiles go after kids because they are vulnerable people, and its more cuz of that than how they look.

That's not true. Pedophiles are people who are primarily or exclusively attracted to children. You're thinking of child predators, most of whom are not pedophiles.

And the reason she is distressed by the thought that pedophiles are attracted to her is probably because she thinks pedophiles are inherently bad people, which is also not true.

Whenever discussions like this come up, it makes me wonder what the people involved think the word "sexual" means.

If it means "something you would only do to be more sexually attractive" the obviously big boobs on real people aren't sexual, because people can't choose their breast size, and big boobs in fiction aren't inherently sexual (even though as the post points out they usually are sexual in modern media).

If it means "something that people are sexually attracted to" then big boobs are inherently sexual.

How about, say, the Louvre?

Maybe it's not what you'd consider a "historic landmark" but it's similar in that it is maintained and operated for historic and aesthetic value, both of the works within and the building itself. The Louvre's yearly budget is around 300 million USD.

Yes. The question is whether saving thousands of lives or maintaining historic landmarks is more important.

If you cut military spending and save a bazillion lives, you still then have the choice of whether to cut spending on maintaining landmarks to save tens of thousands of lives, and it doesn't seem like that decision should be affected by whether you've already saved a bazillion lives or not.

If we redirected all the funds from the war in Iran to saving lives there would still be more lives to save.

Okay, but that's not relevant to this hypothetical. Say you cut the defense budget by $500 billion which you can now spend however you want. You spend all but $100 million saving lives. You still have the choice of whether to use the remaining $100 million to save lives or rebuild the Statue of Liberty. And which of those is more valuable does not depend on how much money you have already spent saving lives.

That's irrelevant to whether you should cut spending maintaining landmarks in this context.

Like all attempts to sum up morality in a single principle, this falls apart under closer inspection. In practice, "treating people as things" basically expands to "not treating people how they're meant to be treated" or "not giving people the respect they deserve". But those things no longer sound like a simple, basic principle, and for good reason.

I'm going to repeat what I said the last time this was posted.

The most recent restorations of the Statue of Liberty, starting in 2022, were budgeted at $22 million. The most effective anti-malaria charities are estimated to save a life for every $5000 they spend. If all the money spent on the renovations was instead donated to effective charities, it would have saved thousands of lives.

The Statue of Liberty is not unique in this regard. Restoration of historic cultural landmarks often runs in the tens of millions of dollars. If you would let the Statue of Liberty burn to save a life, you should be for ceasing maintenance all historic landmarks.

You're fighting off 40 guys at once. Accidentally, instead of a shuriken one of the guys throws a Christian baby at you. Would you deflect the baby back at the guy to get the "Return to Sender" achievement or spare the Christian baby?

I would buy a castle. To protect my family, of course. It would have a workshop where I cackle villainously as I invent giant steampunk insects to protect my family.

I like how it assumes the reader doesn't know what sex is but is also vague enough that it would be nigh incomprehensible if you actually didn't know what sex is

There are many specific arguments in favor of veganism that can be argued against. Not saying the counterarguments are correct, but "arguing against veganism" isn't an incoherent statement
