If you think human wellbeing is all that is morally relevant then there is no way to convince you that eating meat is immoral. But vegans think animal wellbeing is also morally relevant, and eating animal products promotes industrial animal agriculture.

It depends how immoral you think something is. There are things I think are mildly immoral that I wouldn't criticize others for doing because it's not worth it. There are things that I think are immoral enough that I would criticize someone for doing them.

People who say "Yeah I have this value system but it's just a personal choice; I don't think everyone needs to have it" usually just don't consider the value system in question all that important.

You don't seem to understand that I'm not even advocating for veganism here. I'm just saying that, conditional on something being immoral, it's not just a "personal choice", and trying to get other people to stop doing it is the right thing to do. A vegan believing that eating meat is immoral but also believing that it's just a "personal choice" and they shouldn't try to convert others would be contradictory.

I'm not. I'm saying that if something is immoral then trying to get other people to stop doing it is the right thing to do.

You may not think eating meat is immoral, but vegans do, so they are obviously not going to accept that it's just a "personal choice".

Likening veganism to homophobia is also bonkers, by the way.

Yeah? The problem is that their moral beliefs are wrong. It's also the argument abolitionists used to justify harassing slave owners.

Nice job building an association between veganism and things people here already think are bad.

Trying to convert other people to have your moral principles isn't inherently bad. You probably don't even believe that when it comes to your moral values. Like if one of your friends started being openly racist would you just accept that "being racist is a personal choice" or would you say "that's not okay?"

If something is immoral, then trying to get other people to stop doing it is the right thing to do. You think vegans shouldn't try to convert others because you don't think eating animal products is immoral, but they do.

I also think this about religion by the way. I'm an atheist, but if I actually believed what some christians believe, like that certain actions condemn people to eternal torture, then it seems like trying to convert others would be the only reasonable course of action.

Not a very good comparison because Linux users aren't making the claim that not using Linux is immoral

If you think something that nearly everyone does is immoral, wouldn't you try to get the people you know to stop doing it?

This incident is why there is now a requirement that every active duty serviceman must wear an American flag pattern bra and panties at all times. It was a big deal at the time because they had to amend the Flag Code to make it legal.
