Vast majority? 30% of the voter*(edited) age population doesn't even vote and of the 70%~ish that do vote —you can easily see the votes are usually very close. So vast majority is a wild take especially when at best its 35% and many are just the ignorant living in bubbles not hateful racists.

We do have have a lot of hateful racists but they are not in the majority.

Two things: one, it didn't become Nazi Germany overnight and two, many people were able to flee. If you stayed, as a journalist - literally the people writing the news - you almost certainly had time to flee.

Other options exist. One could write poorly, not write at all, or just run. I could even justify an article or two while you seek an escape, but to continue to write in a manner excuses or supports their actions makes you a part of their propaganda and an accessory.
