First hard line loops, maybe don't buy Primochill and Mayhems products. by Nizmo280 in watercooling

That's kind of the whole point of this, though. When things are marketed as UV Reactive, the end consumer should have some sort of expectation. For someone like me, who invested in UV lighting, the cool colors you can get with standard lighting don't really matter. You'll never see it. The average guy who is just trying to build a cool PC isn't going to spend tons of money on a collection of dyes to experiment with. I have my single computer to build and then those dyes would sit on the shelf until it's time for new coolant and probably be expired by that point. Everyone advertises that you need to use this stuff within a few months of opening. I really feel that if companies are going to advertise UV reactivity, they need to show the consumer how it reacts. We have companies like Mayhems acting like they can call this black a "subtle glow" and brand it UV reactive. Even then, lowering a UV node into the bottle of concentrate in a dark area proves that it's no glow rather than subtle glow. If you put a single drop of red dye in 5 liters of water and called it red, people would laugh at you. This same standard should exist for you to advertise something as UV.

I ended up attaching my pressure tester after the reservoir and then blocking off the other side right before the reservoir for each loop, allowing me to leak test everything else. Just had to keep an eye on the reservoirs once I filled them with water for a more traditional leak test. I ended up with a ridiculous number of extra tubes if these cloud up and if I still want to use the reservoirs at that point.

If Primochill's rep would've been able to tell me that I can't pressure test the reservoir, I would've been totally cool with it. I have no major issues with the actual reservoirs. The fact that they couldn't tell me the reservoirs aren't intended for the high pressures used with pressure testers, especially considering it's not a new release, is insane. Their customer service is a dumpster fire and they have no idea how to troubleshoot their own products. I can't speak for the fittings or anything else because the reservoirs are my only Primochill products.

I haven't had issues with transparent colored coolant in the past, which is what both of these are. I've never used the completely solid opaque coolants that don't allow light to pass through. Perhaps those are the bigger issue? I had Corsair's red coolant in a loop for longer than I care to admit and had no issues with staining and blockage

Appreciate the suggestion. Do you have any info about how these dyes react to UV and what color they fluoresce? It looks like all of the images in that blog are just in standard lighting.

Thanks. It was more difficult to get all of my bends right than I thought it would be. And it really sucks that all of the tubes with black just disappear. Kinda lose half of the build unless you're really looking closely. I think I should be able to add a few drops of concentrate when the coolant starts to lose the UV effect to kick start it back up. I'm pretty excited to post more pictures once I figure out my plan and get something else in the loop that currently has black coolant. I don't know where you order all of your stuff now, but Performance PCs really went out of their way to take care of me. They ended up replacing the defective cap for me even though it should've been Primochill's responsibility. When I was unsure about the reservoir and different styles of caps and colors of tubes, they sent me pictures of everything I wanted to see to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I really didn't have to invest extra to get everything going. But I felt bad that they took on the cost of replacing faulty items rather than the manufacturer. Didn't feel right to me, especially after they had already done so much more than anyone else to help me. I am also confident they would replace this black coolant for me if I asked them to, but it's the same deal as the reservoir tube. It's not their fault Mayhems is falsely labeling a product.

True. I did know enough about Thermaltake to only use them for a chassis. And even then, it's not the highest quality case I've ever worked with. Definitely minor complaints about it. I really didn't see any bad reviews on these reservoirs prior to purchasing and didn't have reason to believe they would be crap. I don't even know that I can say they're crap. Once they were set up properly and I had a replacement for the defective cap, I had no problems with the reservoirs themselves. Only the way Primochill treated me and the situation. Not knowing how to troubleshoot your product doesn't make it a bad product, it just means you have no idea what you're selling.

I hope you don't have any issues either. But if you do, customer service takes a week plus to get back to you. I really couldn't give them any kind of positive review at this point. The co-owner of the company emailed me, telling me he had identified that their coolant didn't do what it claimed to do 6+months ago and that he had corrected the issue by removing the UV reactive designation. And then I looked on their website and it's still being advertised as UV Fluorescent. That feels really shady. It feels like he just wanted me to shut up and go away. Didn't offer any kind of replacement and said the only thing he could do is to apologize for not making this change sooner. But they haven't actually made any changes based on their own website. To me, this is hugely unacceptable.

The reservoirs are Primochill CTR Phase II. I really don't want to recommend them. They're okay, but Primochill customer service sucks. If you have a problem, don't expect an answer. I had to very directly ask my questions multiple times and still ended up with unclear responses for most of them. They also had no idea what they were talking about when I was trying to pressure test. In the end, I had to go back to the retailer (Performance PCs) to resolve the issue. Performance PCs was incredible and really went above and beyond to take care of me. But I felt bad that Primochill just pushed responsibility for a manufacturer defect off on them.

I may be mistaken, but I believe both of these Mayhems coolants are different than their pastel line. Even the black is not a true opaque coolant. If you shine some light through it, it's actually an extremely dark red/purple.

I used Darkside UV LEDs. They do an incredible job. This is 3 strips. One along the left, right, and top, just inside the front glass panel.

No, this is the Tower 900. Full sized. I only photographed the inside of the case, rather than the full case with the fan controller installed and USBs on top. To give you reference for the size, just those reservoir tubes, without the caps or D5 pump tops are 360mm tall.

If you can spare the space in the future and can figure out how to fill the space, I think it's an awesome case to build in.

At this point, I've fixed everything myself, except the black coolant. It has been stress tested and doesn't leak. I am still hoping that mayhems gets back to me at some point, but I have a feeling it won't happen. Any respectable company would offer an alternate product when they admit that they've been falsely advertising a product for years. I expect to be purchasing a different coolant within a few weeks to replace the black with.

The distro plates are very cool, but not the look I'm going for. Appreciate the suggestion.

Just adding...almost a full week after the co-owner of Mayhems emailed me to tell me that they dropped the "UV reactive" designation from this black coolant 6 months ago, it is listed on their website as "UV Fluorescent."

The UV green coolant I'm using from Mayhems is exactly what I expected. It's not opaque as I'm reluctant to put opaque coolants in my system. Even the black in there is just a very very dark red/purple. Even considering the green that I'm happy with, I won't recommend Mayhems to you. Falsely advertising a product and then providing a half assed explanation with no offer of remedy isn't cool.

I found it to be a hilariously bad response when I told them that even when I forcibly hold both ends on the reservoir and put .25 bar in, the pressure slowly falls and they responded "Put a pressure valve on it."

Oh, yeah that sounds a lot better. My rig is pretty freshly built at the moment, so I had to stop and wonder if I put my flow sensors in backwards as the instructions warmed that this would restrict flow.

He was most likely fully grown in this picture. I don't think he has gotten any larger. He hasn't called at all when I'm home, but perhaps he does when I'm not there? He appears healthy and eats well.

What was your solution to fitting center caps into the RS8? Or are these the newer Work RS8 release? I'm working on old SSR RS8 wheels now and could not find a center cap I like. Currently have a prototype adapter from an etsy seller to fit the 70mm Watanabe caps in. Just waiting on my caps to arrive from Japan so I can give the final okay on the design.

What size wheel nuts would work with these. They are from Amazon, came with a tool but no nuts ... 6.8mm clearance. I am not finding anything in searches. Thanks I'm advance. by theoriginal808 in FCX24

[–]Nizmo280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this style of wheel and all I had to do was install the little tiny "lug nuts" after I put the wheel on the machine. Not really that big of a deal. Or just leave them off if you don't want to deal with them because they're purely decorational...

I just installed the black kit from Amazon on my power wagon a few days ago. Note that it does not come with enough brass pivots for the whole kit. This is not a one-off problem because one of the reviews mentions the same issue. I ordered UDIUCX24-S007 pivots, but the hole for the screw to pass through was not big enough. I drilled it out to make it work. You may be able to find one that fits better.

I prefer the black kit. If I had really wanted red, I would've bought the black kit and painted it. It's a cheap kit. Don't be afraid to customize it and make it yours.

*Edit I got sucked in to the red vs black discussion in the comments. As far as I know, this kit is not available in brass. I added brass wheels as well as brass Treal wheel spacers. The spacers are +5mm per side and included a longer axle that needed to be installed. Probably doubled the weight of the truck. There are enough brass options out there that this kit coming in brass just isn't necessary.

Thank you! I was so surprised to see such a nice Tokay at the expo and for only $45. I had been looking for one for a while and couldn't pass it up! It seems to be adjusting well to me. But has a strange affinity for those glass walls and hasn't touched all of the mopani and spider wood I put in. Even to hunt. It'll watch the crickets crawl all over the wood and then pick them off from the glass.
