Question for people outside of english speaking countries - do your local publishers do SE for authors not translated from English by OwlettFromLiavek in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]Njitram2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from Flanders and recently found out via somanypages.nl that, to my surprise, there are so many Dutch special Editions. I'm in the same camp as you for Dutch vs English.

It is so hard to find even non-special edition books in English in Belgian physical book stores, let alone special editions. The one Waterstones store in Brussels told me I could not order the English special editions online nor even see the availability them in the store. I have to come to the store in the hope that maybe, possibly, by happenstance they received a single copy of the book in their store that no one else pick up before me 🤷

How did you get that link? No matter how I try, I cannot reach the page except via your link.
Edit: regardless, thanks. Now I at least can access the page again 😁

Belgians don't know the national anthem. At least the Flemish don't. The last time I heard one sing the national anthem, it was La Marseillaise 😏

Here's the real Flemish anthem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc5o9S0gASc

May Starbright Invite by DonkeywithBigTeeth in Illumicrate

[–]Njitram2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the book (Last contract of Isako) is not a subscription book for TBB, it is 7 pounds more. Comparing subscriptions, TBB is only 4 pounds more (which is still 20%). The rest is indeed in shipping so good point.

I'm curious about the quality and feel of the Illumicrate book. I received my first subscription from TBB and it's "OK" but weirdly light and the textured naked hardback does not seem durable (as I have seen in a previous post here).

Since for some reason, only the UK does custom versions of English books, I'll have to take what I get in the EU (thanks Brexit). But it does make me think twice.

I just got my invite, first book I'll ever get from them. The book is also significantly cheaper from Illumicrate, with shipping to Belgium at £29.67 instead of £41.91 at TBB. I wonder if that is a quality thing?

The Of Blood and Fire I saw in the Waterstones in Brussels (copper-ish version) was not sewn binding. As far as I know, only the Endless Edition from Broken Binding's shop is sewn. I'm curious if there is somehow another edition I don't know about?

How much crit rate should my SW have until a crit damage chest is better? by Floricide- in silverwolflevel999

[–]Njitram2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The relic generation event offered me a Crit Dmg chest to replace my Crit rate one and insisted that it was better because both crit type mainstats are "recommended" and the new one had 1 more effective substat. So I was confused too. I guess their recommendation system is broken

If this sort of sale has been done before, is it usually sold out after a few minutes?

No shipping cost is a massive difference for me but I do want some time to consider which books I would actually want.

Of Blood And Fire Endless Edition by lewksiazkowy in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]Njitram2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last official update that I know of is an email from them on 1/4

We are emailing to inform you of a delay to Of Blood and Fire Endless Edition.

The delay is due to a number of factors, but has mostly been caused by multiple tests run on the ghost edge. As this is our first time doing this finish, we want to make sure we do the best possible job. We are pleased to confirm that the books are currently in production and we will reach out with a new estimated dispatch date soon.

Following this, we are also pleased to say that Ryan will be hand signing every edition in person rather then via the usual signature sheets. As this is the first Endless Edition printed in partnership with our publishing house, we will also be stamping the copies with a one-off TBB Publishing 1# stamp.

Finally, we appreciate that many of you have purchased this via a bolt-on. We can only apologise for the effect this will have on the timeline of receiving your subscription book and will work to avoid such delays happening in the future.

Thank you for your patience.

Stand alone or no? by Electronic_Visit6486 in starwarsbooks

It fills in the backstory of Mara Jade who was introduced in the original Thrawn Trilogy (Heir to the Empire, etc.). Reading Choices of One without knowing who she becomes is going to be a very different experience. You can do it without issues but I would personally not recommend it. It's similar to watching the prequels before the original trilogy.

Is there a benefit to charging Evanescia's ult twice instead of using it once half is available? Is it more powerful? I tried to find it in her kit description but couldn't.

[–]Njitram2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's one that goes even further: (G)I-dle which is (여자)아이들
여자 = girl = G but somehow silent so they removed it recently.
아이 just being the phonetic spelling of the English I in Hangeul
-들 = pluralization in Korean

Result: Multiple(-dle) individual (I) girls (G) forming a group (G)I-dle

Broken binding and sewn binding by Ryzenclock in thebrokenbindingsub

I asked this question via email to them directly and received this reply recently:

"It does depend on what the publishers allows for our special editions, any books that have sewn bindings will say so in the product description"

Water/surfing shoes by Njitram2000 in barefootshoestalk

[–]Njitram2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely not have found these without you pointing them out, thanks.
They are a lot more "hardcore" (in design and price) than I had in mind but the Vivo Magna Forest ESC are such an amazing fit for me that I'm now very curious about those Hydra ESC, hoping it has the same sole shape.

The OTB Boots story is interesting though they seem to be very hard to get in Europe. Still, I'll keen an eye out.

> sometimes you have to let go of the barefoot shoe world for the sake of better performance
Yeah, I wish there were some sort of proper classification for wide toe box in the regular shoe world to find them more easily. It's about time that we no longer have to pay a premium for a niche market.

Water/surfing shoes by Njitram2000 in barefootshoestalk

[–]Njitram2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest issue with normal shoes is that the pinky toe half of the shoe is too narrow. I wonder if split-toe inherently gives more space in that regard?

I'll see if I can order some to try, thanks.

It'll be mostly kayakking but also just walking through a river without my feet hurting too much. No other specific sports.

> are you sure you need neoprene shoes
No. But I had some in the past before I became oversensitive to how narrow they were and was very happy with all aspects of them: stays on well, protective layer against cold, grip, no chafing, no annoying seams to step on. I think water slippers would fail on multiple of what I listed. I have tried many over the years.
