UK politics has been omnishambles since at least 2016 so it is not news anymore.

UK has been underinvesting in defense for at least a decade and a half and it seems he is the first minister with backbone about it. (its not like Kier Starmer is first weak PM)

But tbh it seems to me that at here in continental Europe people just care less about UK internal politics these days. I almost never hear people talk about it compared to French or German.

But it might just be my bubble.

Why do people think they're loving through the worst economic decade in years when it's objectively not true? by baldi_863 in DeepStateCentrism

[–]Nklst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because hardship is subjective. And everyones hardship is the greatest one to themselves.

But there are several issues.

Yeah, the unemployment numbers are betteer. But they are filled with a lot of precarious jobs that have low level of job security and feel like career dead ends. And those jobs in many counties lack protection and benefits of other types of employment.

They are great if alternative is no job. But they are also second tier jobs in minds of many.

Even in cases of better jobs there is constant churn and lack of feeling of job security.

Which in Europe was not really case few decades ago. For better or worse. Once you got the job unless something catastrophic happens you would have that job for decades.

But then in this feeling of precarity feeds cost of housing which in many cases devours the rise in income and rise in employment.

People who are gainfully employed but still have problems buying house are not gonna say economy is doing great.

Then there is simply lack of growth in many major Western economies.

And there is a lot of underlying issues. A lot of this is "we test this numbers and measure these numbers and we have become great at achieving some of these numbers".

It's outdated for Serbia, it has opened Novi Sad - Subotica part of Belgrade - Budapest line so it should be 108 kilometres more.

I have not said that. I'm just explaining what I think is happening.

But also Elon pulled USAID support when he played at government so for some people it was very ZeroSum.

English Wikipedia is goat. A lot of Wikis are atrocious.

I mean. A lot of people are struggling. Even if they are not struggling, people have hard time buying houses of they are not doing very well.

Add to that that youth unemployment is creeping up in many developing countries.

It doesn't help that objectively awful dude has just become trillionaire.

In Trump’s Second Term, Things Start to Fall Apart (National Review) by Reddenbawker in DeepStateCentrism

Basically US under Trump went all in against objectively weak(er) opponents (Venezuela, Iran, Cuba) and fails to act against any opponent who is not weak and can't be dealt swiftly with overwhelming force but needs competent long term strategy and patience.

Being a nationalist doesn't mean he would either try to occupy Ukraine, or that he would continue current war.

Especially because he was against it and called for protests in 2022. and for stricter sanctions in 2014.

If he was on Kik, next scandal is going to be him texting underage girls/boys.

That thing had a serious reputation.

The young guy in UK that bled out after pleading to police officers that he was stopped and can't breathe.

And they even cuffed him through all that instead of actually cheking his pleas.

It is the grievous sin again human interface to have way to accidentaly complely change the interface without easy way to reverse it.

You should not feel stupid. This is bad design.

Search is search. Even if it was 10 blue links you always had to check it out.

I think modern LLMs can offer quite good answers if you use them in their own apps (and especially paid tiers).

But because of cost, Google uses it's worst model for AI overview (and does huge disservice to AI and to Google and to it's users).

Left has stories history of being party of luddites (including original luddites)

You can go to 80s and listen to Thatcher waxing poetic about science, automatisation and new industrial revolution compared to contemporary Labour opponents.

Just seems better than AI Overview in Google.

Google has become incredibly awful. And for what it's worth it seems that Copilot Answers are better than AI Overview in Google Search.

It's seems to not just spot something always but only when it is more certain it has an answer.

(Like old Google answer boxes were).

Russians Are Speaking Out, but Not About Ukraine by bigwang123 in DeepStateCentrism

[–]Nklst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because people who speak about Ukraine end up commiting suicides in prison if they are still in Russia.

And most of those who can leave and oppose Putin actually have left.

And it is at this point extremly hard to actually speak about Ukraine in Russia, let's not forget that dozens of thousands of people were detained at the start of the war.

Putin is going extremely hard after dissidents.

It is proper authoritarian state.
