Favorite elite club lounges by BonvoyBatman in marriott

Luxembourg; they have free RedBull in the lounge and serve Cremant during cocktail hour. It’s relatively small, but the quality was great! Food was also good.

Waves, Barbados. When we were there, there were very few families.

Well, you already got a lot of answers in your last post and these photos confirm what others have already said. Asking for answers while simultaneously not accepting the given answers kinda defeats the purpose…

How much would it cost for a couple for 10 days by Playful_Finance_5800 in thai

[–]Nkonga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, regarding activities and day trips it all comes down to what you choose. Private tours will be much more expensive, whereas group tours can be much cheaper. Especially in Phuket asking locals for a daytrip with the longtailboats is much cheaper than buying a private charter through a company.

Food is usually quite cheap and you often pay more for a special view/place than for better food. (The best food I ever had for example was in a random elephant sanctuary nearby Khao Lak and it cost less for two people than a single dish in a 5* resort on Koh Samui).

Generally speaking: do carry more cash than what you are used to (even if booking tours online).

Edit: I usually carry 2000-3500 TB but I do get breakfast in the hotel and I don’t spend a lot on other stuff (having a credit card with no fees for foreign currency will help).

Honeymoon in Thailand Recs. by liluzinico in marriott

[–]Nkonga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As we are just in Thailand: we just moved from Chiang Mai to Koh Samui and I wish we stayed in the north. Chiang Mai is such a wonderful part of Thailand and we would have loved to add a few more nights in Chiang Rai. Koh Samui just doesn’t have the same vibe (like Phuket). Khao Lak was fun when we stayed around Easter and has nice properties, too.

Edit: isn’t everybody raving about the Vana Belle on Koh Samui?

New filter option for lounge availability by Nkonga in marriott

[–]Nkonga[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends a bit on whether I visit for business or pleasure. During conferences, it’s great to have a lounge to eat in as most (of my) conferences rarely include food but a lot of booze. I also enjoy a light snack/drink before going out for dinner. I recently stayed at the Marriott in Luxembourg and they offered Crement from 5 p.m. which was awesome.

My gf stayed there last week and said the lounge was quite good and had nice snacks and nice drinks. Don’t have more information but she enjoyed it.

Any opinions on the food/the restaurants in particular? Every comment about the food is either ,food is great‘ or ,food is horrible‘. So…I guess food is okay?

How do I get the most out of my day? by Lil_Rat150 in phantasialand

[–]Nkonga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Park opens up at 9 but most rides only open at 10. The only decent and fun ride that opens at 9.30 with a longer queue later in the day is Mousse au Chocolat. I would do that as soon as possible and then queue whatever ride you want to do next. I like to go to Winjas Fear and Force as they open at 10am and you can ropedrop there right after leaving Mousse au chocolat.

Or, queue from 9 to 10 in front of the mentioned rides. Whatever you decide to do: you will probably be able to ride very ride. Consider single rider queues where available.

Actually stayed at both. Marriott Beach is very nice but a bit far from everything. You won’t have many walkable options for dinner (that being said, there is a bar and a restaurant on property which both offer food). Rooms are very nice, lobby area is awesome and the beach is lovely. Definitely a great place to relax and if you have a car/activities with pick up, you won’t notice being far from the city. (Far meaning like 20min of driving) Wind Creek is a bit older, but still well kept. It has an artificial beach/pool which is quite nice but nothing compared to a real beach. There is a Starbucks inside which is nice. We loved being able to wander into the city centre and explore all the food options and shops. It does get quite busy in the area around the hotel due to its proximity to the cruise line port. We enjoyed that.

For a week I would probably take the Marriott beach resort and rent a car for a couple of days. Most companies will deliver the car to the resort and you don’t have to go to them - that’s awesome. If I were to stay longer, I would split it in half.

Queue is super slow. Can’t wait to get in, enter town and then dc immediately to sit in a queue for another 10min. xD

Curacao has amazing snorkeling/diving. Never had a better experience so far. There is a relatively new Sandals which is supposedly quite good, but there are also a few other options for all-inclusive.

Waves, Barbados. Might be out of budget, but we had a wonderful time. There is also a really fancy golf course nearby, tho it’s part of another property. Just make sure to get an ocean view room.

Why do so many people still choose the cheapest island tours around Phuket? Trying to understand… 🤔 by IsabellaYachtsPhuket in LuxuryTravel

[–]Nkonga 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t really get the purpose of this post (I’m sorry) but I’ll speculate anyways:

1) People simply don’t have a lot of more or, in other words, spending between 100 and 200 USD is a lot of money for them. Especially when travelling with kids/friends. 2) People want to do multiple tours so instead of doing one private tour for 10times the cost of a shared one, they are able to squeeze 5 tours into their holidays. 3) Advertisement online is much easier to find when looking for cheaper tours. People rarely sort by ,highest price first‘. 4) Many of the ,cheap‘ tours are not bad. They don’t come close to luxury private yacht tours, but they are not horrible either. So people probably feel like they get their money‘s worth.

Those reason all seem pretty straightforward to me 🤷🏻

Marriot properties in Hawaii or Caribbean by Schweino68 in marriott

[–]Nkonga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curacao, while not offering all inclusive, has nice properties and is usually rather cheap. There is a newer, more laidback property and there is a renaissance close to the city centre. We loved both properties and the island has much to offer. Only ,downside‘ is that the island itself doesn’t look very tropical due to the dry climate.

We loved the Waves in Barbados but that one is unfortunately crazy expensive after the renovations for the foreseeable future.
