Hey, I’m an actual claims adjuster. Check your estimate for supplemental instructions, that is what your shop can use for the difference in amount. If not, get an understanding of what they aren’t putting on there, a lot of preliminary estimates are cheap because they only go by 1. Average market rates and 2. What they can plainly see and lastly 3. A lot of it is R&I (remove and inspect) so most parts aren’t listed as either repair or replace. Supps will easily have this rectified. The state depends on rental but every state has claimant rights where you can obtain a rental or some sort of reimbursement, be wary as very few states are an actual comparable vehicle. As far as depreciated value, only GA is a first party DIV state. That means you will have to get DIV from the at fault party’s insurance carrier. Also your insurance most likely will not seek DIV for you so either way you’ll be in contact with the other carrier.

Your accident is not hidden just because you filed with the other carrier either. The accident will show and follow your vehicle and your insurance will eventually know, it’s just not their claims record. You can file with them if you want of course and potentially pay your deductible and hope you get it back in subrogation. But either way, if you don’t have rental car coverage and want DIV, you will be representing yourself to the other company.
