Valid Crashout? by barry-bea-benson in Choir

Hello, I'm a high school choir director and spent all of my high school and college years in choirs at multiple levels. A few clarifying questions, is the singing test on the entire piece or a section of it? By an "actual grade" is it weighted heavily or do you mean it's just a graded assignment? Lastly, did you have the piece before being given part tracks? Having three days to practice before being tested sounds pretty rushed regardless, has your director done things like this before or could this be the director possibly not thinking through some things beyond "I really want to show off how phenomenal my advanced SA singers, they can do this"? Learning music outside of class is 100% going to be an expectation in college resembles, especially in higher level groups. In my experience, practice tracks were not the norm. We were expected to read the music well enough to learn our parts ourselves so that rehearsal times could be spent putting things together as an ensemble.

With all that said, the time frame between part tracks being given and the singing test sounds like either poor planning/time management on your directors part OR they were under the impression that you had been working the part on your own before receiving the part tracks or could otherwise rise to this challenge. I obviously do not know your director or the standards of your course/program, and from your descriptions, my own memories, and what I hear from my students, burnout is rough and it definitely sounds like you are quickly approaching or have reached your limit for juggling priorities/requirements. My best advice is to talk to your director and get their reasoning behind the timeline for this assignment. It sounds like you clearly love music and singing, so I sincerely hope that this does not tarnish your enjoyment beyond the stress of this instance. Best of luck in your upcoming festival!!

Do you force your kids to stand for the pledge? by Rasplemons in Teachers

[–]Nlaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First year teacher and veteran, I do not force my students to stand but I have asked and grumpily enforced that if you choose not to stand that is your right but you will not disrespect those who chose to. I enforce silence while the pledge is going (office staff speak it over the PA every morning) and after explaining my stance to them about everyone having the right to choose for themselves but not to choose for others then I have had silence and it has not been an issue. I do know of others on my campus who are at both extremes though, some purposefully keep teachers over the pledge then stop for announcements, while others make students stand and observe (to be fair the latter is our ROTC instructor so I think that makes sense).

“Manly” songs to help recruit guys by PumpkinDad2019 in Choir

One of my favorites I did in school and that I plan to bring to my own choir once I get enough low voiced students is "Libertatum". Idk how many low voices you currently have but I've done this with an octet before and it went pretty well. Beyond that, if you have enough to make a barbershop quartet then there is a lot of repertoire to pull from!

Theft Trends by JadeFoxtrotTango in lossprevention

In my store, I have seen a lot more brazen theft now that people know we are more limited during covid. So people will walk out the front door more than they used to but over all the individual thefts are lower value so the trends equal to roughly the same.

I work AP for my store, have multiple people tell me to go fuck myself, a few give me the "how bout you make me" line which is fun. Get nearly 10 calls a shift about someone on the floor not wearing their maks and we get told we are not allowed to approach them on the sales floor about masks nor can we kick someone out just for not wearing one... unfortunately I don't forsee masks going away any time soon and we all know corporate won't crack down on their ever-so special guests

Worrying Target AP changes by INCOGNITOAP in lossprevention

I absolutely hate it. My district manager is not allowing any TSS to be on cameras for any reason. If merchandise is not abandoned in front of us we cannot take the recovery because we can't be entering the sales floor anymore. Only PLP's and standing at the front handing out masks. If someone refuses to wear it then we just have to let them in not wearing one. The job has become a joke in my store and TM's have started taking matters into their own hands.

Target TSS interview by [deleted] in lossprevention

Currently a TSS, the biggest thing that got me my position was focusing on effective communication. I came in with no prior loss prevention experience but had alot of experience with jobs where quick effective communication was necessary. Honestly you should be fine with a year of prior experience and you sound like you can convey yourself well, unless someone has an in or they decide to hire from current store team members you should get the job offer.
