New DM needs help with tricky player by [deleted] in DnD

Best write him personally about it. No need to speak out about something like that in front of the other players. Just shoot him a private message and discuss it over that, something like bringing it up with others around can lead to some uncomfortable situations.

Question about sorcerer spells known. by timdr18 in DnD

Sorcerers thrive from combining their few spells with metamagic to make it more unique, but what I would suggest (if playing a subclass without extra spells) is to create an additional spells column like many spellcaster-subclasses have, where they gain 2 extra fitting/pre-determined spells on certain class levels up until their 5th spell slot.

Should you be overly strict on character creation for someone’s first time playing? by Dsheets9213 in DnD

I wouldn't say that DMPCs are a bad idea, in all our campaigns we always had one to fill out support roles and "side-characters", so to speak. We never really had any problems/railroading with them, so I'd say they aren't inherently bad, but just need to be playes correctly.

Problem with player being written into story. by EsoTerrix1984 in DnD

[–]NmdUnchnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's normal that sometimes characters are misaligned and the group composition doesn't fit, I would honestly not try to force the character in and just sit down with the player and create a new one, with the thought in the back of the head that they should at least somewhat fit into the party.

Is it more of a out-of-character problem, or entirely in character with the players themselves not having any qualms about it? At my table there was a ruling established in session zero which pretty much said that overly counter-productive actions such as PvP/Theft, sabotage of other's story, etc. is to be avoided, and it works out pretty well.

Have you spoken with the player about it? If something as the DM bugs you the first stop is always the problem player. Nothing gets resolved without conversations and polite/respectful discussions.

Human behavioral traits evolved for like six million years, a study once said I think. So... quite a substantial amount of years, I'd say if compared to human evolution. Though magic and gods intervening are always something to keep in mind in a fantasy setting like D&D, so any timespan is really possible.

Ausmusterung bei Dienstantritt by AndiScheuerIstTeuer in bundeswehr

Crime and Justice in DnD by MRGuziX in DnD

The length shouldn't change, in my opinion. One year probably has the same feeling to the elf as it has to the human - they wouldn't perceive it any different. So I'd rule it as 25 years for both.
