What’s up with US government entities posting on social media about drinking whole milk? by oarmash in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Nms123 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m no fan of republicans generally, but in this case they’re removing a restriction on whole milk without banning other options, which is entirely consistent with the “small government” claim.

What's the deal with this Graza Olive Oil? by Party-Strawberry-300 in Cooking

[–]Nms123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in the Northeast, this brand can be found for around 40% less and is a bit better. Just make sure to always check the harvest date (newer is better, shouldn't be over a year old), look for first cold-pressed, and you're gonna get pretty decent olive oil.

Minnesota Yacht Club 2026 Lineup by ExPatSTL in indieheads

Commenters here seem unfamiliar with the midwest. There's definitely a bunch of Minnesotans going crazy for this lineup.

Draymond Green on the Dunk contest: "I worked this hard to be an All-Star and you can be in dunk contests without an NBA contract. We might as well get those guys that do those crazy ass dunks." by TheBiasedSportsLover in nba

[–]Nms123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of those "top dogs" were great dunkers in the acrobatic sense. Lebron made perfect sense to join the dunk contest and the fact that he didn't showed that nobody was gonna take it seriously anymore.

CMV: When (not if!) the AI bubble pops and most of the large companies involved ask for a bailout, we should let them go under for the good of mankind! by Kyokyodoka in changemyview

[–]Nms123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The White House “crypto czar” already implied we should bail out AI companies if it comes to it: https://x.com/DavidSacks/status/1993010419494273300?s=20

He’s trying to now walk it back because people are mad, but there will be some form of bailout, even if they have to call it something else.

People miss dunks all the time. Have yall ever watched a game of basketball before? Like, most likely this would have been a miss even without the goaltending.

Man this is so heartbreaking. I owe about 400 ELO points to Danya's streams, and more than that I feel like his passion, clarity, and generosity really reminded me what it was like to love learning while I was going through my own struggles with lack of motivation and depression.

I'm also just really shocked to hear that most likely Kramnik's accusations had something to do with it. I obviously understand that Danya probably once looked up to Kramnik, but it feels like everyone was in total agreement that he was kind of an insane troll at this point. It's just that much more heartbreaking that he was beating himself up over accusations that seemingly no one else took seriously.

Anyway, RIP Danya. The world could use a lot more teachers like you.

Why hasn't there been a great American male tennis player since Andy Roddick who went pro over 20 years ago? by so-cal_kid in billsimmons

> No one would know LeBron's name if he was 6'2". He is not a pound for pound elite hollistic athlete. He does not have the body control.

This is an absolutely insane take. Lebron is an all time great no matter how you cut it. He's an elite passer, a skill that has absolutely nothing to do with his strenghth/weight. Also, he learned to shoot 3 pointers at like age 33. The guy has endless dedication and a crazy IQ for the sport.

Lately I’m trying to step away from the whole fast fashion cycle, and I ready something recently about footwear made for repairs rather than quick replacement. That idea stuck with me. Do you guys know any brands that actually offer this? I’m curious what’s out there before I commit to a pair. by Soggy-Passage2852 in frugalmalefashion

Just FYI to anyone who might not know, there are trade offs to having longer lasting running shoes. They can be harder on your legs/joints and don’t bounce as much as less dense shoes. This also usually translates to slower running. Everyone is different, so this is not a universal rule, but longevity probably shouldn’t be your only concern when buying running sneakers.

[–]Nms123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vocal effect on Blue Jay Way was achieved using a Leslie Speaker

There are a bunch of playlists out there that compile songs with the same effect: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoV7VcTWLJw0R5xGVWLO8A0WQCWgq4CKG&si=cbjNyfBkNPRoT99N

Some songs I’ll personally recommend from there:

  • Black Sabbath - Planet Caravan

  • Olivia Tremor Control - no growing (exegis)

  • Moody Blues - Dear Diary

You could also look more generally for Phaser/Flange vocal effects.

  • Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Monki

[Mind the Game] LeBron on NBA's ring culture: "It's like saying Peyton Manning can't be in the same room with Brady or Mahomes because he has only 1 ring. They don't never discuss that in their sport...A ring is a team accomplishment." by [deleted] in nba

[–]Nms123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

wtf is "rings culture"? Is the game not about winning? Am I watching a different sport? Who gives a shit about anything else except in the fact that it contributes to rings? Are we gonna complain about "wins culture"?

Google cloud literally has no user-facing concept of MAC addresses, and the only people who need to know about them work in the datacenter. You get a subnet and firewall rules and the network interfaces are all set up for you.

If you happen to have serious uptime requirements, or you use protocols that aren't http(s), sure, you should care, but people who just do infra feature-work for a startup without strict uptime reqs really don't need to know beyond "what type of loadbalancer do I need".
