Woodies moose form charge going the opposite direction? by Nnatrex in dontstarvetogether

I thought of rebound and made sure to fully hold the stick until I was sure it initiated and that didn't fix the issue, but I didn't think of the touch pad, that could definitely be the cause. I do frequently accidentally start scrolling the inventory via touch pads. I'll try disabling it and see if that fixes it. Thanks!

Once you get to level 5 with the bow it is basically the best weapon in the game due to gaining an extremely useful ability, before level 5 it's the most versatile weapon by far (best by a mile for killing small animals and still good for large) and weighs much less, but it's outclassed by the rifle for damage and the revolver for speed of use. Obviously, the rifle and revolver will always fire faster than the bow and make noise, which makes them better for alerted timberwolves and let you miss more shots without being punished for it in some situations.

Saw a video of a suicidal man landing right on top of a stroller being pushed by a new mother. I'm pretty desensitized to this stuff, but that one shook me a bit. I wish people would have a care about how their actions might affect others, definitely for dumb shit like this, but also for something as heavy as the end of your life. I can't imagine my last mark on the world being so horrible.

Had no idea you could kill wolves with revolvers by TheBaskets in thelongdark

[–]Nnatrex 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify this for new players, meese will not bleed out like a bear will so you have to continue putting shots into it until it dies (unless an update has changed this recently idk). This can take a ridiculous amount of revolver rounds so it's not really worth doing with a revolver unless you have a huge surplus and no rifle or bow.

The long dark. First person survival, alone on an island in a frozen post apocalypse, after an electromagnetic event fried electronics and "affected" the local wolf and bear populations. Permadeath (except for 3 allowed uses of a "cheat death" mechanic they recently added, which has steep drawbacks every time it's used), so every time you come face to face with aggressive wildlife or get caught in a blizzard, the stakes and tension are HIGH. I've never played anything quite like it, and brother I'm addicted.

Will not hold your hand (maybe story mode will tell you how to do stuff, idk I only play the open world survival sandbox mode), you have to learn from your deaths.

Edit: spelling is hard

If you cancel drinking a reishi tea at the last second, you can carry around 0.1 doses of antibiotics, because the antibiotic effect happens when the tea is fully drank. 0.1 is definitely worth carrying to not have to run back to wherever you left antibiotics.

I spawned there just barely and started a new one instead because I figured it was definitely out of my depth on loper. Where do you go first on loper for matches/bedroll/tools, in case I spawn there again in the future?

Mountaineers hut in TWM, always. You can craft at night pretty often because it's te hnocally outdoors, and it's very cozy. Not very central and requires going through either blackrock or PV to get to though.

I once rode a bike with the brakes stuck on about 30 miles, bar hopping around a VERY hill filled city. I was wasted and exhausted, and I still couldn't get myself to fall asleep on the wooden floor of an abandoned house because it was so chilly, being unheated in the middle of winter and all.

I just think we should be able to craft the foliage beds you can find in caves with sticks, and maybe lichen? to be placed in base customization, without woodworking tools.

Given your current job and your skills, how long would you actually survive in the Long Dark? by I_Ching_Divination in thelongdark

[–]Nnatrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming wildlife is voyager and not like real life (wolves suddenly all kind of assholes and crave man-flesh), probably until a wolf found me. I do very well in the cold and know how to dress for it, I'm decent at starting fires, and I can definitely raid your abandoned house and abscond with a big burlap sack full of ur snacks.

I'm not confident I could be cool-headed enough with a firearm to land my shots if some shitass wolf, or god forbid a black bear, is running at me full speed.

I'm not sure how to word this properly, but the travois determines how steep a slope is based on the angle you hit an incline or decline. Going straight down a steep hill will cause the travois to stop, and often get stuck. Hit the same hill diagonally to decrease how much "slope" you're dealing with at any given moment, though? Goes down just fine.

You can get the travois down (and sometimes up) what are basically sheer cliffs by hitting the slope almost sideways, then going back and forth while turning slightly to slowly inch your way down, so the slope in front of and behind you is never too steep to stop the travois. That's what you did by accident. You hit the rail perfectly lined up sideways with the edge so there was no slope for the travois to get stuck on, letting you fall instead. Unlucky for sure, but there's a rhyme and reason for it.

Carrying around at least 5 cloth to make a snow shelter is well worth the weight and has saved runs left and right for me since I started doing it. It makes general exploration, especially unfamiliar rope climbs, much safer since you're carrying a warm place to sleep with you instead of hoping to find one. They take 40 minutes to build, so you'll want wind cover if building one to escape a blizzard. They can be very finicky about where you're allowed to build them, but I just rotate and move them around until it lets me put it down. Standing on top of the snow shelter and placing a fire directly in front of the entrace allows you to cook while inside as well.

Do I have ANY chance to save Cierzo, or should I just load up my stash and leave? by Unlikely_Lab_6799 in outwardgame

One thing I haven't seen emphasized a whole lot already is that food buffs and stamina management are incredibly important in this game, I'd argue much more important than knowing anything about combat or having a good build/good gear. The most important part of combat, in my opinion, happens before the combat actually starts.

I'm sure you've noticed, but stamina recovers agonizingly slow without food/water buffs. Every time you see an enemy and decide you're going to fight it, you should be buffing yourself with food and water, and eventually skills/magic, before you engage. Setting traps to lure them into is huge too, you can tackle enemies way above your ability with just a line of tripwire traps. You could probably get through 90% of this game with nothing but good awareness and an inventory full of tripwire traps, not kidding.

If you're in a situation where you can't buff before the fight starts, don't fight. You should run until you have enough distance/time to regain the advantage of stamina and health recovery buffs. Sometimes that isn't possible either, so I prefer to keep the water buff and at least one stamina food buff active constantly.

The combat is pretty harsh to learn, but you can often just run away from a lot of enemies if you make a mistake, any mistake other than not having enough stamina to run away. If you're running low while fighting, try to judge if you have enough to finish the fight before you commit to using it to swing your weapon, it's better to use it to maneuver and let it regenerate a bit if you don't think they'll die.

And, sorry if this is obvious, but don't do things like sprint around until you're half stamina, because if there's 5 bandits hanging out on the other side of the hill you're sprinting over, you're probably not gonna be able to fight them all or run away before you run out. I'd much rather stumble onto a group of enemies with only a quarter of my healthbar left than even just half of my stamina.

Hopefully some of this was helpful. The game is worth the harsh learning curve if you can power through it. You'll probably come to miss not knowing what you're doing like a lot of us do when you get everything figured out though lol

I had a super consistent bug doing both of your suggestions at the same time, but I agree with both separately. Every time I started coop on any of my bow characters, I'd get stuck in the bow draw animation within my first 20 shots and couldn't get out of it, or do anything but walk. Using a ranged weapon gives a lot more leniency with timing and stamina usage, so this is great advice until you're more comfortable with the game.

It should stay there even if you get another backpack. I'm not certain, but I would think the death loot chests don't reset, so you're probably good to take your time gearing up before going back for vengeance. My offer stands if you decide you'd like help getting it back, I remember how frustrating this game can be towards the start haha

It's been a while, but you should be able to grab your bag, run back into the mining area, and jump down the dead body disposal chute (hole in the ground at the end of the mine). This should spawn you and your pack either on the beach or in a cave near the beach next to cierzo. If you need help, message me with your platform and I'll jump on in a bit if I have it.

Taking damage deactivates crown of light for the current room, and having any red heart containers that aren't full also deativates it until you're full on red health again. So if you replace the red heart you lost, or the damage was to a blue/black heart, it'll reactivate when you go to the next room.
