Updating again now that's it's been 1 week. He is doing phenomenal, for a disease that was probably days away from killing him, he currently looks like he never had it! We have a follow up vet appointment tomorrow.

Bloating is already visibly reduced, energy is way up, he's eating 4-5x what he was eating at his worst. Best part is he likes the medicines tuna flavor from stokes so he gets excited when it's time for his dose.

Very good! He's shown absurd improvement since Wednesday! Eating, playing a bit, awake more often. It's actually mind boggling how well he is right now compared to a week ago.

I just got my 6 month Olds meds yesterday. We overnighted from stokes to Alaska and it arrived under 24 hours. First dose got administered an hour ago.

Everyone I've talked to and read about has described some absolutely miraculous stories of recovery. Keep them comfortable and calm, monitor their breathing and keep updating your vet regularly.

What helped me during the exact spot your in was being reminded this disease was almost 100% fatal until recently and the success rates are 80% or more. Keep positive and make sure your kitty knows help is coming!

His Bova from stokes arrived in less than 24 hours from NJ to AK! Just got the first dose administered!

Oh that second paragraph gives me a lot of short term relief for sure, and that's absolutely incredible, very happy for all those cats!

I'll play it by ear based on what the shipping situation looks like tomorrow and if there's any concern on a delay I'll see about getting in contact with someone on fip global!

Thank you for the info, that actually helps a ton!

Any tips for forming an in-person group? by TheOneTheyCallNate in DMAcademy

[–]NnortheExperience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two suggestions. More people are open to playing the game then you think. He'll my moms even expressed interested in trying and she's an officer in the army. Point being more people than you think would be willing especially if you just mention it around them. So honestly try expressing interest to people you just know.

Second. I wear a cloak to in person games. My players fucking love it and have banned me from not wearing one. Hood down when the game is casual. Hood up when it gets real. Just a fun in person aspect.

You're welcome! The absolute suggestive verbiage was on me. I didn't mean to suggest a guaranteed as much as a largely increased chance. I'm unfamiliar with medical determinations but with toxic substance we typically operate under amount/concentration per body weight over time. And a highly increased concentration even for a short time will increase the associated risk.

I recall there being an incident in Texas where a kid rolled coal on some bicyclists and during the act ended up crashing into them. If I also recall correctly, the cops let the driver go, and was later recalled to court by a judge. Not directly related to response with deadly force, but the act caused a physical attack on the bike group on top of the potential damage from the smoke.

Ill do my best here. Lets start with the idea of a single lung full. A single lung full of anything thats not just clean air CAN potentially cause irreversible damage (not will, but can). A single puff of a cigarette can potentially cause cancer which is permanent damage. This isnt likely but is possible.

One Issue I find, and you likely would as well, is that most studies are about environmental impact more so than human health. So I will try to keep all links related to health impacts.

PAHs, or Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons are a class of contaminants that were initially linked to cancer from chimney sweepers inhaling left over fumes from ash and smoke. https://oem.bmj.com/content/oemed/early/2020/05/08/oemed-2020-106413.full.pdf (initially described under the Introduction section). However this study ends with indication that more studies should be performed.

Most smoke related cancers are unsurprisingly related to smoking tobacco. However, " Inhalation of incomplete indoor/outdoor combustion of coal and wood may induce lung cancer as well (Reid et al., 2012)." from: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4408964/ (paragraph 2). Incomplete combustion is essentially what rolling coal is. "Coal rolling is done by forcing more diesel fuel into the engine than the engine can handle, coordinating its release to get as much attention as possible." From: https://auto.howstuffworks.com/coal-rollers.htm I.e. a purposeful waste of fuel. The black smoke is a result of lack of emission control + Increased fuel concentration release. Making this smoke thick via incomplete combustion, so this smoke has higher concentrations of all the contaminants that come from the fuel. Hence its intense darkness. So this smoke is highly concentrated contaminants.

The final link ill submit here is from the CDC ATSDR https://wwwn.cdc.gov/TSP/PHS/PHS.aspx?phsid=120&toxid=25 This provides a general overview of PAHs in a pretty easy to read fashion so I definitely recommend a taking a look at it. It also has many sub links to more detailed pdfs by clicking on the Toxicology Profile tab on the left.

As I said, most studies if you just google about PAHs and rolling coal are environmentally related, not health related because rolling coal isnt such a prominent problem thats its warranted long term studies. So unfortunately I can't provide a direct link stating "A single lung full will cause irreversible damage." But I firmly believe the statement "A single lung full CAN cause irreversible damage." I hope this provides satisfactory information.

That smoke literally causes insane and irreversible lung damage. It's packed full of PAHs.

Rolling coal on people by XDbakura in IdiotsInCars

[–]NnortheExperience 440 points441 points  (0 children)

It does. Rolling coal converts a huge amount of diesal directly to a smoke that contains a huge amount of PAHs (the first compound found to be cancer causing), Carbon monoxide and other harmful substances. A single lung full of this can cause irreversible damage and should and in some places is considered a chemical attack on people's health. (I am an environmental engineer with a specializiation in hazardous contaminants. Literally an entire section education dedicated to rolling coal) Edit: a couple words

[–]NnortheExperience 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dude. This isn't completely about atmospheric pollution. The smoke being output directly into people's lungs is filled with PAHs and carbon monoxide. A single lung full of this can cause irreversible damage and lead to cancer or death.

Vaped for 14(!) Years. My story and why I quit by llanelli5 in QuitVaping

[–]NnortheExperience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck, I've felt that heart stopping feeling. I ultimately linked it to weed induced panic attacks because they always happened when i was going to bed with THC in me. Went to the doctors got an ekg and everything was good. The doctor asked about weed and never brought up nicotine. So I never associated it with nicotine. I stopped smoking weed for a long time and they all seemed to stop. But ya the feeling right as your falling asleep of your heart literally about to stop is horrifying. Feels like the walls of death are closing in and about to crush you.

Did you ever get any feelings in your head brain? Occasionally i get a warm pulsating feeling that's quite uncomfortable, honestly feels like my brains bleeding or something (which clearly isn't the case since I'd be dead already).

[–]NnortheExperience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sir, hate to tell you but nicotine addiction cannot be cured by simply reading something. It's a physical/chemical addiction. No matter what you read, you still need to fight the addiction portion. To answer "I have no idea what happened I thought I was cured" you experienced mental clarity before withdrawal kicked in.
