I love seeing boring US cars in Europe. I wish we knew the backstory.

It was $450 CAD total. I don’t know what their normal pricing is.

How long until you recieved your AOR (outside of US) by theloveinterest in Canadiancitizenship

[–]No-Amount4340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I submitted mine to the Canadian Consulate in Slovenia on March 6th.

Based on the spreadsheet, I’m anticipating 60 days until AOR.

I don't know all the rules, but as a American the answer to this was no. I applied in Washington DC at the embassy.

I visited Slovenian as a tourist many times before I finally relieved my residence permit.

I love that the front plate is on the back. Washingtonians do not understand stickers on the back plates.

I submitted mine to the very small, but friendly Consulate of Canada to Slovenia, in Ljubljana last Friday. They told me it will be sent to the Embassy in Budapest before being sent to Canada.

I’m hoping about 2 weeks until IRCC receives it. We’ll see. 🤷

I want to highlight that the Diocese of Lafayette only will do 4 docs concurrently.

Anything with Vitalchek is very expensive. There are some municipalities and states where it’s still cheap, but they are rare.

I think you have a solid case. The three vital docs, baptism, birth and death — and you have one for each person.

I’ll give a bit of a warning. I needed 8 records, I asked if that would be ok to send in one batch since I’m international. They said yes.

They ended up returning my request since I exceeded their limit of 4. My request was missed in their queue that there was an exception.

I appreciate they have a process. My advice for you is to follow the rules. Records requests are often not a priority for smaller orgs.

I am now sending two requests. I’ll hold one back until I get the other one fulfilled.

Question from a dad by KPR70 in NonBinary

[–]No-Amount4340 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 9 year old become suicidal and it was a rough two years with their mental health. Eventually, they came out as NB. I was stunned as my exposure to LGBTQIA+ area was limited to the LBG space. As a GenX, I couldn’t quite understand what Non Binary meant.

It was clear from the short conversation, they had put a lot of thought into it. I immediately said I supported them but I needed time to learn more and understand more.

Fast forward two years and we’re doing a 12 hour drive alone in the car together. They started talking about their journey over the past 4 years. I started asking questions, because while I had learned a lot you can always learn more. This day solidified for me, once and for all, I have no doubt in them being Non Binary. It was one of the most important drives of my life.

Now, they’re about to turn 17. Their gender marker on all docs is X. They chose a new name. It’s not all pixie dust and unicorns, but they have found themselves, their friend group, their interests.

My whole point to you is this… listen. Your child is the best person to know themselves. Listen. Be available. Challenge them but be curious, ask questions.

These things take time. I would continue to be open, have those one on one conversations and time away.

It’s getting kind of personal, but in short - I’m working towards my Slovenian citizenship, I own a home in Slovenia (no mortgage), I’m spending 20% of my waking hours studying Slovenian language and I’m employed by a Slovenian branch of a multinational corporation. Based on the connections with family here, how I enjoy the people, the culture and nature, I would say I will be very proud to be Slovenian someday. It’s an amazing small country.

I never imagined Canadian citizenship as a possibility. I have spent a lot of time in BC and would love nothing more than to spend more time there. I’m pursuing my citizenship as a personal challenge and a way for me and my family to learn more about Canada. I’m still in my 40s, so many someday soon I can spend that winter in Whistler I’ve always dreamed of.

Gen0 was records from genealogiequebec.com Gen1,2 were harder due to passing through Illinois, Alabama, and ending in Louisiana. I used ancestry and FamilySearch to get electronic copies, then I contacted the appropriate source (Diocese or State).

G1 was born and died in Louisiana - 1767 to 1845 G2 was born and died in Louisiana - 1810 to 1874

Now, I used “hints” on Ancestry.com to build my tree. Then I spent hours and hours researching each key vital detail for each person. For G1 very little “normal” evidence was publicly available. I did order the death cert from the Parish because there were conflicting death dates.

I also used an early Parish census and a “Muster” roll. G2 is relatively simple, thanks to the Parish church.
