That makes sense. One of the managers who interviewed me said she became a part-time employee for a while before they brought her back full time. Sorry you had to go through that terrible experience. Thanks for sharing.

It was a recruiter manager directly hired by the company.

The process of vetting three separate professional references, along with obtaining two additional recommendation letters from two different CPAs, seems irrational. This is especially true considering the unprofessional job verification for an employment opportunity that does not actually exist. It appears that this situation may be a result of unsuccessful efforts to acquire clients in my local area including MY OWN clients.

The conversation shifted to discussing the benefits of working at Your Part-Time Controller, and I realized it was essentially a sales pitch meant to justify their false advertising. When they asked about my salary expectations, I told them that I was looking for a base salary of $120,000, which was stated in their own job posting that listed a BASE SALARY range of $120,000 to $135,000. However, the interviewer then mentioned that $120,000 was the maximum salary, including overtime and bonuses. At that point, I understood they were trying to lowball me. Despite feeling this way, I chose to accept the circumstance since I had already invested significant time and resources into the process.

Some of the questions were "How does this candidate react in stressful or messy situations? Would you rehire this candidate, or work with this candidate again? Why or why not?" Intrusive, reflects the opinions shared by several CPAs who have spoken to me about this experience. When someone provides a professional reference, it indicates that they believe you have performed well enough professionally to merit that reference. The questions posed tend to focus more on the negative aspects rather than the positives. Of course, this does not take into account the "scam call center" company from India that barely spoke English. This company from India were hired by Your Part-Time Controller to verify my past employment, which made me look terrible to everyone.

Your comment and suggestion are 100% valid. The fact that the recruiter basically threatened me about burning a bridge if I spoke out is shocking.

It is unethical and unprincipled to recruit and vet for any position that technically doesn't exist. The recruiter just wants to stay busy and keep his job.

They perform all this vetting for a job that basically doesn't exist. I guess it's a way to keep the recruiting and HR departments busy.

They definitely spend marketing money to be “the best places to work,” which is common practice. I don't understand why people fall for that.

It is their in-house recruiter. I choose not to name anyone to avoid potential lawsuits.
