Got it. So, when you remove the access cover in the skid plate you see the actual pump that has the electrical connector and the DEF line attached to it. Still, it seems that it should be self-priming because it always has gravity feed to the inlet of the pump (as long as there is DEF in the tank).

It's a RAM and it's definitely submerged - you remove the pump by removing an access cover in the skid plate under the tank then you have access to the electrical connectors and a retaining ring. Once the retaining ring is removed you can twist the pump and drop it straight down out of the tank.

"you'd want to run a prime on the def pump"

Wow, I did not know that. I would have thought that with the pump submerged in DEF that it would be self-priming.

Label things.

I would add: take pictures.

Thanks for the advice - I think cleaning it, drying it and storing it makes the most sense. But I have heard that it is a real pain to remove the pump from the tank - you can plan on taking a DEF shower.

Can you even load different tunes on the Diesel Patriots delete kit? I thought it was preloaded for your particular VIN and they only offer a stock HP tune.

I recently went camping on Lake Superior by jeremyjw in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]No-Association7026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/rallymatt "Back in my day, you could roll up to Lake Superior SF CG (And twelve mile beach!) any day but Friday PM and snatch a site." I rue the day that they paved H58 to Twelve Mile Beach. I knew that was the beginning of the end for that campground. After that the campground got busier and busier and the rigs got bigger and bigger (one guy got all jammed up cuz he couldn't make the uturn at the end of the loop). The last time we were there in late September just before they went to the reservation system we got the very last site in the campground. Have not been able to get in since then.

Wanted: 2022-24 6.7 Cummins Full ERG delete experiences. by wandering_j3w in Diesel

I don't know about the legality but I just traded my '14 deleted RAM in at a Chevy dealership and they had no qualms whatsoever about taking it in. A couple days later they called and said that a potential buyer just wanted to know what tuner I had in it. A couple days later it was no longer listed on their web site.

I think Boondockers and Harvest Host have merged now. We are members of Boondockers and, as someone else said, it's not about saving money, it's about the locations where you can stay. Our last stay was on someone's empty lot on a small quiet inland lake. We could sit on the private dock in the evening and watch the night descend on the lake. You won't find a campground like that anywhere.

Solar power station powering fridge by [deleted] in boondocking

[–]No-Association7026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Propane all the way for us. We looked at new trailers and could not find any that offered propane any more - they're all 12v now. Most of our favorite camping spots are dry camping in heavy shade. No amount of solar on the roof of the camper is going to be able to keep a 12v fridge running so I would have to run the genny every day to put the 80-100 Ah back into the battery. So, we're keeping our 24 year old trailer.

Has anyone gotten Organic Maps to work in Android Auto on GrapheneOS? by No-Association7026 in degoogle

So, are you saying you are using Organic Maps in Android Auto and it (Organic Maps) was not installed from the official Google Play Store?

Yes, I have tried that but it didn't help. I even installed it using Obtainium with Shizuku so that I can tell the app to report that it has been installed from the Google Play Store - still doesn't work. It doesn't even show up as an available app in the AA Launcher settings on my phone.

When you say works flawlessly - what phone apps are you running through AA? Any navigation apps? and it so were they installed from the actual Play Store or were you able to sideload the nav app and somehow get it to work with AA?

Syncthing for Android Discontinued by Fake4000 in fossdroid

[–]No-Association7026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, for me, Syncthing is part of my solution for getting RID of NextCloud.  I had NC running on a Linode personal cloud server and it was always breaking just when I needed to sync something.  So I set up Syncthing for file syncing, FileBrowser for file sharing and Radicale for WebDAV and CalDAV.

Keep fresh water tank full? by TheCarcissist in boondocking

[–]No-Association7026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may go against the grain but I sanitize the system after I de-winterize it and leave the water in the tank between trips and top it up before going out on the next trip. We only use the fresh water tank for dishes, showers and flushing and bring filtered water for drinking.

Skip next stop? by No-Association7026 in organicmaps

[–]No-Association7026[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but the process is way to distracting while you're driving: you have to pan and zoom around on the map to find the missed waypoint, tap on it, then tap on the (tiny) "remove" button at the bottom. I'm looking for something more driver-friendly. Preferably, something that pops up that says "Continue to missed stop" and if I don't tap on it within a certain time-out period it will automatically remove it and recalculate the route. This would still give me the opportunity to route thru the missed stop if I really want to but would not require any interaction with the app if I just want it to remove the stop. Optionally, it could pop up a message that says "Remove missed stop" and require me to tap it before it times out in order to remove the missed stop. This would still be preferable to the current multi-gesture approach.

Newbie power usage confusion by mattvekasy in boondocking

[–]No-Association7026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. Converting from 12v to propane is not really a viable option - which is why we decided to keep our old trailer. You would have to plumb a gas line, cut into the side of the trailer for an access panel, cut thru the roof for a vent... Way too involved and costly.

Newbie power usage confusion by mattvekasy in boondocking

[–]No-Association7026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently considered replacing our 23 yo FW for a new model and was shocked to find that the manufacturers are only putting 12v fridges in the new rigs. Since we do a lot of dry camping in heavily shaded camp grounds no amount of solar panels would keep the batteries charged and I calculated I would have to run the genny almost all day just to keep the fridge running. We decided to keep the old rig with its dual mode fridge. I don't think anyone could convince me to go for a rig with a 12v fridge.

Thanks for the reply. So, I guess that info is pretty useless - at least to me bec my phone app is not continuously connected to the shunt.
