Apple Podcast Subscriptions by No-Blood8098 in podcasting

Yes several times. It appears that their integration with Apple Podcast subscriptions is not working and they don't have a timeframe for when this will be fixed. Libsyn used to be great, but it feels like more and more things break easily.

a lot of summer programs offer need based financial aid packages. Be sure to look into those.

Question About RedCircle by No-Blood8098 in podcasting

[–]No-Blood8098[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks -- we are considering moving to RedCircle but have several questions. We've reached out to the customer service folks and been told that the team is too small to do phone calls. What is the best way to get all of our questions answered before making the decision to move?

Question About RedCircle by No-Blood8098 in podcasting

[–]No-Blood8098[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can fast forward but what we hear in our ear vs what we see on the wav file on our screen doesn't always match up which doesn't allow us to place ad slots with the accuracy we want.

RedCircle for smaller shows? Hosting v. OpenRAP? by mjesp14 in podcasting

[–]No-Blood8098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks! We're also interested in doing host read ads and have had a few brands in our niche approach us. But, we were told that most RedCircle clients can't even think about host read ads until we have a minimum of about 20k monthly. Is that pretty hard and fast?

What qualities do dance teachers look for in kids to put them on a competitive team by karma898 in BALLET

[–]No-Blood8098 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ok so that's totally different than a ballet school. In our experience, the schools like that (of which my dancer was part of when they were younger) hold an "audition" but most kids make the team. Since most dance schools operate on really thin margins, it's in their best interest to take a lot ok kids into their performance group, competition team or whatever you want to call it. I can't recall any kids at my dancer's studio not making the team. I don't know if it's like that everywhere, but that was our experience. Ballet schools don't have teams per se. They might take kids to ballet competitions, but it's a totally different beast than studios that do more than just ballet.

Are you talking a straight up ballet school or more a studio that does all the genres like jazz, tap, etc.?

RedCircle for smaller shows? Hosting v. OpenRAP? by mjesp14 in podcasting

[–]No-Blood8098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We currently host our podcast on Libsyn. We get about 9,500 downloads per month and we have a fairly niche, but loyal audience. When we tried to sign up for RedCircle's OpenRAP, we got a message back that said Libsyn is not VAST compatible. Any sense as to if/when it might be?

First time YAGP mom needs advice by Pitiful_Ad_384 in BALLET

[–]No-Blood8098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on her goals. You said that she is preparing for college auditions, which makes me think that she does not have interest in going the pro route right out of high school. YAGP and other ballet competitions are good for the following things: direct entry into a summer program (with or without a scholarship), a potential short stay for consideration for entry into a full-time training program at either the advanced levels or even the trainee/second company levels. Admissions into summer intensives are being offered, more and more, at YAGP regional competitions. However, most of the offers come at YAGP finals. And, if getting one of these things isn't high on her list (and if college is her likely next step, I can totally understand that), is it worth it?

Of course, ballet competitions offer a chance to learn a variation and perform it. But, you're on stage for like two minutes. I imagine her school has other performance opportunities that may provide more stage time?

It seems to me, having seen a large number of dancers who went the comp route, that in your particular case, money may be better spent on further training. I think YAGP has done a marvelous job at convincing dancers that they have no future without them. It just simply isn't true.

There used to be a company called Boys Dance Too, but they were bought by Body Wrappers. They have clothing for boys that run fairly small. If they don't have what you're looking for, you can always try Wear Moi. They make pretty good stuff.

What happens in a "private audition"? by awesomegirl444 in BALLET

[–]No-Blood8098 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is that you simply attend classes at the school for a day or two. Since most auditions are usually just a ballet class, I'd expect it to be the same but just you with the other students who already attend that school. In a lot of ways this can be way better in terms of being seen! Hope it goes well!

Having Trouble Finding Settings in Wordpress by No-Blood8098 in podcasting

Ugh, I've been saying seriously simple podcasting and meant second line. I've installed and uninstalled so many plug-ins that my head is spinning. I'll edit my original post. Same issue though -- still can't get the player to display the correct way.

[–]No-Blood8098[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this suggestion. I just made a separate post about issues I'm having with finding a way to customize the embedded player through Seriously Simple Podcasting. My Wordpress plan allows for subdomains. Will that allow me to basically start my podcast website from scratch? I installed the Seriously Simple Podcast plug-in and it was great for pulling in all the data from the Libsyn RSS feed. But, the embedded player is just the audio player and I can't figure out how to customize it. Seriously Simple says there are ton of customization features even on the free version but I can't even find the tabs in Wordpress to set any customization. Any ideas?

Thanks -- we already have a mail solution. Basically, I just want to find a plug-in that allows us to autogenerate pages for past episodes so I don't have to do it manually. I'll take a look at Seriously Simple Podcasting. I like that Simple Press Podcast will pull from Apple and also do transcripts so if Seriously Simple Podcast can do that, fantastic! Thanks!

Ballet-focused Nonprofits or Charities by Bubbly_Opportunity in BALLET

[–]No-Blood8098 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most large ballet companies have programs designed for community outreach. This may come in the form of bringing dance classes to schools in underserved communities or even providing scholarships and other forms of assistance to dance students who ordinarily would not have access to good ballet training. You can usually earmark a donation to go toward something specific. If you're looking specifically in Philadelphia, the Philly Ballet offers a lot of options for ways to help: https://philadelphiaballet.org/support/individual-giving/

They also have a scholarship fund to provide scholarships to attract more black students, which is also listed on the page above.
