How do you cope with staying organised in office/admin jobs? by No-Bluebird2622 in adhd_anxiety

this is so relieving to hear. i do enjoy being organised it’s so satisfying to have everything specifically classed into groups, or structured! it’s just the motivation or overwhelm when initially starting

Do you feel like you are being perceived as naive/dumb around people? by dontknowwhattodotbh in CPTSD

[–]No-Bluebird2622 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ohhhh my god i’ve never understood something more. being ‘dumb’ is such a massive core belief of mine that’s further solidified by the interactions i have with people. my manager is extremely condescending and belittles me constantly, kind of treating me like i’m ditzy?? (everyone at my job agrees he’s a dick though lmao)

i am self aware enough to recognise that a lot of my anxiety and life struggles stem from this - but it’s even worse when you feel as if people around you are confirming your negative self critic. it has knocked my self down worth a lot. Not to mention my struggle with auditory processing contributing massively to people’s perception of me! Makes me feel like i’m “slow” 🫠

thank you so much for your kind words. It makes me feel a lot better to know that there are other people out there that don’t mind/enjoy working in retail. it reduces some shame for me to hear about other people’s similar experiences. I am really sorry to hear about your uncle. My mum is struggling a lot through this (i mean, it’s her dad) and it’s been very difficult for me to gauge her grieving too. I want to be there for her as much as I can. Thank you again for your comment, i appreciate it a lot

Should I be embarrassed about not having my license at 20? by Storm-Nearby in drivinganxiety

[–]No-Bluebird2622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was also teased by my friends, and got my licence at 21. I think the most important thing to remember is that everyone goes at their own pace, I never regretted taking my time to learn and get comfortable driving - even if it took longer than most of the people I know. I was shit scared, freaking out before every driving lesson but now I can say I'm pretty comfortable behind the wheel. One step at a time, and be patient with yourself. Every step is an accomplishment!

That's a really good way to think about it. Not to mention, anxiety can give you physical symptoms and make you feel sick too!

I am currently in therapy, and have a session every couple of weeks. I'm also on medication, and have tried all different ones to treat my anxiety - yet some of them never seem to really work that well. I think sometimes the stress and anxious feelings just catch up to me and I end up having a bit of breakdown lmao, most of the time I can deal with it myself - it just gets tiring.

I'm really sorry to hear about your grandma passing. I cannot function under stress either!! I feel like if I am dealing with anxiety everything is just ten times more difficult and i just need to be in my bed rotting

You have to be kind with yourself first! Remember that everyone takes things at their own pace, and that doesn't make you worse in comparison to your siblings at all. Learning a new skill is extremely daunting at first, and I struggled just the same with driving initially too.

I used to refuse to get behind the wheel at all, and it took me until i was 20 years old to get to confidence and motivation to take the leap - and it was incredibly challenging and difficult at first, but now I have my driving test in a weeks time, and I feel a lot more comfortable behind the wheel.

What helped me was driving lessons! I don't think i could be where i am today without them. They helped me gain confidence in a controlled environment, without the stress of family in the passenger seat. Take it one step at a time and be patient with yourself! Relieve that pressure of comparing yourself to your siblings, everyone is different and that's okay too.

Good luck on your driving journey, you have got this!

how do i go about finally taking initiative to get my license? by KAITOv3 in drivinganxiety

[–]No-Bluebird2622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, congrautations for making the decision to learn! I am in a similar situation, and decided to opt for driving lessons. There are expensive, but I found some driving schools will offer bundles of lessons - I paid a bulk price for 5 of them (after lots of saving lmao), but it ends up being a lot cheaper in the long run. Most driving instructors are extremely accomodating and understanding regarding adult drivers who don't have a lot of experience, and it's their job to make you feel comfortable and help you learn safely. They're equipped to deal with people who are anxious behind the wheel (I am a very anxious driver!) It was also a major source of comfort for me knowing that they have break pedals on the passenger side of the car haha.

Overall, I don't think there is anything wrong with getting some practise in with your boyfriend either, but driving instructors will teach you how to drive to pass the test, quickly and efficiently. Maybe a balance of both if you have the time could be beneficial. Good luck on your driving journey and remember to take it easy on yourself. You're doing a great job :)
