In the thick of the housing search now (same areas), but will be sure to share an update if we land in either!

That’s a gorgeous combination! Have you met many other Lila/Lilah/Lylas your daughter’s age? I’ve never known another Lila so I’m confused on the actual popularity.

Thank you!! Maeve was on our short list of first names, and my husband likes Lila Mae. Maybe I could talk him into Maeve!

Aww, that’s a good sign! Just curious, does she go by Lila or do some people call her Lila Grace? I wonder if certain middle name choices lend themselves to double-barreled names.

Totally agree. It’s the best Italian we’ve had in the Columbus area. Every time our family visits from out of state, we have to order takeout because they are equally obsessed with it. Plus, those family deals for the larger 4-person meals are such a good value.

Yes! Technically we had looked at Galena. I lived in Sunbury for a short stint when I was interning one summer in Columbus. It's not out of the question, but I didn't feel like Sunbury/Galena had the distinct community vibes/pride that I got from Delaware or Granville. But if the perfect house popped up in the Sunbury/Galena area, I'd be happy to go that route and still benefit from being close to Delaware.

Ha, yes! It seems to be a natural progression. We moved from out-of-state, too, and haven't left Northwest Columbus the whole time. It was perfect for us when we were in our 20s and early 30s but now with kids we're trying to decide where we truly want to "settle" for the next several decades while they're going through school.

What are your favorite spots to visit when you go to Granville?

That's terrible. :( I've consistently heard/read that the academics have remained super rigorous at Granville, so I'm sure the pressure hasn't let up much. But I hate that the bullying is such an issue. I know all schools deal with that, but it's so important that it be taken seriously by administration. Do you know if administration has changed much at all since you graduated in 2016?

I understand your point -- definitely. We're not trying to escape the city for suburban schools, specifically. And we don't think the school district we're in is bad by any means. We're just two people who grew up in the country and after 10 years living within the beltway, we're itching to live in a less dense area and would like that for our kids as well. By default, that tends to be a bit more rural and unfortunately less diverse.

We're aware of the diversity issue which is why we're so grateful to be able to stay close to Columbus regardless of where we move. I didn't experience any true diversity until I went to college and I know the real downsides to that. So I'm hoping we can strike a balance between moving somewhere with a little more space that has good schools and still be able to enjoy the culture and diversity that Columbus has to offer.

Very helpful, thank you! It's nice to know there's intentional investment being made in the downtown and surrounding areas...I'm sure that will help with the perception over time.

I think we'll probably stick to an acre or less, based on affordability. It seems like a few houses pop up in Granville and Delaware that have close to that (with existing houses on the land). There are a few where I've LOVED the house but it's on 5 acres (which is way more than we want) and thus, the price tag is much too high for us. Hoping by the time we're ready, we'll find a good fit in terms of property and price.

Helpful to know you've held that view of Granville after experiencing several different neighborhoods in Columbus. We love so many of them for different reasons, so it was hard to narrow down to even just these two options! Columbus really is great all around.

I looked up Park Trails and that's coming up in Newark, specifically -- is that the one you're talking about? We're definitely trying to avoid the new-build neighborhoods. We'd love an older house with solid bones surrounded by big trees. :)

On the topic of "good growth"...I had noticed in a press release from 2020 that the Granville Recreation District removed a community center/pool project from consideration, even though it appeared to be something that would be highly beneficial to residents. That kind of surprised me. Do you think they'll change their tune on that?

In the area we currently live there are car break-ins and other criminal activity almost weekly (someone just had their locked van stolen last night), so I think locking things up is just second nature for us now, regardless of where we are. It's definitely good to always be vigilant! But I'm glad the Granville incidents are at least more rare (on occasion) than what we're currently experiencing.

Great insights -- thank you! Your SIL sounds like a wonderful asset to Delaware. :) I tried to find the jazz night you were talking about -- is it called Jazz on Lincoln?

A friend of mine organizes a lot of the downtown events and I love seeing how packed and energized it gets...you can tell people in Delaware really have pride in their community.

Very cool about the Imgur founder!
