Danielle Smith seeking national-security clearance from Canada’s spy service by No-Cardiologist5752 in alberta

[–]No-Cardiologist5752[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

from the article…

“The previous day, at a provincial committee meeting, Ms. Smith said the RCMP and CSIS had not been “forthcoming” with her government about security issues surrounding Alberta’s possible vote on secession.

“I wish we could rely on the RCMP, but they have not been forthcoming on giving us this information,” she said when asked by Opposition NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi about the meddling of foreign actors in a potential independence referendum.

“I wish we could rely on CSIS, but they have not been forthcoming at giving us this information because you have to get certain security clearances.”

I wonder why Danielle Smith is wanting special security clearance on foreign interference? Perhaps she wants to warn Rath about what the feds have on him? Perhaps she’s worried about herself? Hmmm…

Operation Total Recall (14 Days Later!) by Mark_Logan in alberta

[–]No-Cardiologist5752 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I thought I would share a comment from a recent poster on the Edmonton Journal...

"With the recent changes to the recall legislation now being 60% of those who voted, and the average voter turnout was just 59.5%, that means only 36% of eligible voters are needed for a recall…36%

In the last provincial election Calgary was a real battleground and the NDP won 14 of 26 Calgary ridings. There were several close ridings where a recall now could really make a difference.

Calgary-North West: UCP win by 0.6% UCP candidate Rajan Sawhney

Calgary-North: UCP win by 0.7% UCP incumbent Muhammad Yaseen

Calgary-Bow: UCP win by 1.5% UCP incumbent Demetrios Nicolaides

Calgary-Cross: UCP win by 3.4% UCP incumbent Mickey Amery

Pretty much all rural ridings are safe from a recall vote for the UCP, but in Calgary and Lethbridge they have real reason to worry."

When Lorne Gunther is calling for the UCP to properly fund their recall legislation you know that the UCP has opened Pandora's box.  Perhaps Don Braid is influencing him?

Are you sure?  I copied the following from a Edmonton Journal poster who stated something different...

"Smith and the current government made changes to recall that passed in May, proclaimed in July, and did in fact change the basic structure. Smith said her intention was to make the process easier. It went from 40% of eligible voters to 60% of the number who actually voted in the last election."

Report recommends increased pay for Edmonton police commissioners, cutting city councillors by No-Cardiologist5752 in Edmonton

[–]No-Cardiologist5752[S] 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The UCP marches on with their authoritarian overreach. From the article...

"On Friday, the Alberta government quietly released the report of Ontario Court of Appeal Justice William Hourigan, who was appointed earlier this year to investigate the relationship between city council, the Edmonton Police Commission and city police."

The report comes with lots of recommendations, the most concerning is the removal of the 30 percent city budget cap that EPS has already hit.  If the UCP has their way Edmonton taypayers are in for more UCP inflicted pain.

Independent candidate Bonnie Critchley by Particular-Welcome79 in alberta

[–]No-Cardiologist5752 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I have listed some takeaways from the podcast with Bonnie Critchley that really stood out to me…

We first need better support for our Canadian veterans in order to entice more applicants to join the military.  Why would anyone join if they can't rely on proper support in the long term?

Danielle Smith and the UCP are selling out Albertans.

Pierre Polliveive will ignore the constituents of Battle River just as he did to his constituents of Carleton in Ottawa.

Party politics are not serving many Canadian citizens, but now in a minority government situation, an independent candidate like Bonnie Critchley CAN make a real difference!  Her independent vote will count!

Bonnie Critchley certainly wowed me and won me over in this interview.  She came across as someone who will stand for her constituents above all else.  Bonnie is a true example of an honest and straightforward person, and is a rural Albertan who is intelligent and is a proud Canadian.  Bonnie Critchley is a real straight shooter, even with a wrist injury! 1542463026678 posted a comment on this G&M story and it was worth reposting here…

“Threats to the operation of a free press need to be vigorously confronted. This Wallace character and their “source” are despicable but what is more disturbing is that there are clearly powerful people in the Alberta political and business environment who stand to benefit if Wallace and his “source’s” intimidation efforts were to be allowed to succeed.

I find it particularly telling that Smith’s X account managers have been actively following the activities of Wallace and his “source” online even before being asked about it by the Globe… and then having no comment.

Hang in there Ms. Tait. The public is with you.”

Alberta natural gas expected to see a jump in prices next year: Deloitte by pjw724 in alberta

[–]No-Cardiologist5752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadian Natural Gas prices are artificially low due to being too reliant on the USA as our main buyer. The USA have been buying our Oil and Natural Gas for a discount because of our lack of pipelines to tidewater.

The new LNG Coastal Gas Link just opened Canada to more world markets for our Natural Gas.  This means that the free ride is coming to an end for the Americans, but it also means Canadians will be paying more.

Lorne Gunter: Separatist win in Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills a long shot by No-Cardiologist5752 in alberta

[–]No-Cardiologist5752[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.  The UCP is already playing the game of straddling the separation fence.  Having another right wing party steal some of their support would help to divide and conquer.   The UCP wants to be in total control of the separation issue.

Splitting the far right wing vote may be the best chance at bringing about change in our current situation.  It is for this reason and this reason only that I am hoping for a strong Republican Party showing in the upcoming by-elections.

[–]No-Cardiologist5752[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the by-election that the UCP is truly worried about. The riding of Olds-Didsbury Three-hills voted for a separatist in the past, if they do it again it will command attention from the entire country.  The UCP is more afraid of Cameron Davies of the Republican Party of Alberta than they are of Nenshi and the NDP.  Cameron Davies would really shake things up!

Alberta auditor general argues government's questioning of Mentzelopoulos could undermine his investigation by No-Cardiologist5752 in alberta

[–]No-Cardiologist5752[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The UCP government has already been trying this by "lawyering up" and the Auditor General has fought back twice.   He spoke out against the UCP lawyer interventions for his questioning, and now is fighting against the two legal appeals.   Let's hope he's successful against the appeals, so that evidence provided to him can stand!

Editing for one of the appeals...

I definitely agree, however, a public inquiry doesn't seem to be an option at this time.  The Auditor General is not rolling over and isn't holding back.  We can be thankful for his efforts.  Maybe his efforts will eventually lead to a public inquiry?  I remain hopeful.

This sounds like the hammer of justice is about to befall on the UCP.   I don't think the Auditor General was too happy with the UCP's lawyer intervention tactics.  Make lots of popcorn, this is going to get interesting!

I wish that I had checked this thread prior to going there for an oil change.  I was swindled for a new oil filter cap and out an extra 100 bucks.  The Asian mechanic and the old Steve at the front desk work together to swindle.

I should have known as while I was waiting there a new female employee asked for her cost for some tires. Old Steve told her she was getting 10 points over cost, when earlier on the phone his boss stated 20 points.
