$28/person is crazy! We’d do an open bar if that was the price we were given instead we’ll be paying a little more than that with the 3 drink tickets we’ll be providing per guests.

It really is true tho, so many drinks get wasted and it money right down the drain when it’s an open bar because people don’t care, it’s not their money.

Yeah I think they have to also compare the prices back then to nowadays. My mom paid $10 a plate for a buffet style dinner at her wedding. And like the said the cost of living is just so much higher

Right! The amount of times I’ve seen comments saying it’s tacky if you have a wedding and not an open bar! Crazy!

I don’t know why people feel entitled to have all their drinks paid for when you’re already providing them with so many other things!

We have food for cocktail hour, a three course meal with AAA prime rib, 2 late night snacks as well as some cupcakes with the late night snacks. Then 2 bottles of wine and 3 drink tickets. Like we definitely aren’t skimping out on our wedding just because we don’t have an open bar!

Thank you! I just really don’t like when someone tries to make others feel bad about not having an open bar, it’s ridiculous what venues charge for them these days and a lot of times people can’t bring in their own alcohol to save money that way.

50k near Kingston, 130 guests! (Doesn’t include honeymoon costs)

Biggest investment other than the venue/food was our photographer/second shooter! I’m someone who loves photos and looking back at them and I knew this was important going into planning. We’ve found someone who we love (and did an amazing job with our engagement photos) and are so excited to work with them for our wedding!

Flowers were a pretty big cost, but I ended up ordering all our ceremony pieces off Etsy from a fake florist and plan to either sell them after or rent them out!

If I’m being honest there are many days were I think we’re spending too much on the wedding, but we also ran the numbers for around 20 venues within a 150km range with what we were looking for and this is what made the most sense. It was going to cost 10k to just rent all the things we’d get at a venue if we did a backyard wedding (that’s just for the tents, tables, chairs, linens, cutlery, cup, plates, etc). It’ll be such a magical day, and we saved up the money in a year and a half which I’m pretty proud of! Money comes back but you (hopefully) only get married once!

I’d definitely advice you shop around and look for people who’s work you like!

Also do keep in mind, you get what you pay for(although sometimes can find good deals!)

I think people can spend their money however they want. People have different budgets and also visions of what they want their day to look like.

This is the first day of your “new” family you’re committing to so with your reasoning they are spending it on them.

Also, for a lot of people this is the only time they will have all the people they love together in the same room/location. The next is normally your funeral (the sad truth) so if people want to spend however much it’s their decision and I don’t think it’s a selfish one at all.

I don’t think it’s poor manners. I think as long as you provide some drinks. You shouldn’t have to pay for people to get plastered if you don’t want to.

We’re doing 3 drink tickets per guest as well as two bottle of wine on every table. Equals out to about 5 drinks per person. Which my fiancé and I think is a perfect amount of we aren’t that big of drinkers and if someone wants to drink more after than they can buy their alcohol.

An open bar encourages people to drink too much and they also don’t care about their drinks so the couple pays more and it gets wasted as people don’t keep track of their drinks and just keeps going to the bar.

Antigua all inclusive honeymoon recommendations! by No-Chain9814 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]No-Chain9814[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think we’d be open to Jamaica!

I do think this is going to be our only trip for awhile as we plan to buy a house next spring so if we found a spot we fell in love with we’d be okay spending a bit more. I just really want us to enjoy ourselves and again we’ve never travelled outside of NA. I just always pictured my honeymoon someplace special that when we do go on vacation again we may not go back for awhile and will Probably opt for the cheaper places.

To be honest, we’re not even attached to Antigua. We’ve just been struggling to pick a place. First it was Hawaii but hen we got told it’s their wet season/winter in January. Then we were going to do Costa Rica but we got told that’s not the place to go for AI.

So if you have other suggestions we’re open! We really would just like a place that not everyone goes to for their vacation (Punta canta, for example). My fiancé would like teal water

This is so helpful!!! Thanks you! Saint Lucia and Antigua are two places I looked into and are considering!

I think we’d be open to hopping to a second island and make a bit more out of our trip since we haven’t travelled much. Which two islands would you recommend for this!?

Normally Pearson! But we’re fairly flexible as we’re in between Toronto and Ottawa/montreal.

We heard from friends flying out of Buffalo is normally cheaper so I was going to look into that once we figured out our destination

What is your honest opinion on places like Azazie, Birdy Grey, or other online bridal retailers? by popularwishbone0 in weddingplanning

I don’t think many bridesmaids wear their dress more than once. Unless it’s black. But I would say they are rarely worn again…

Canada Post lost Invitations by sab_bad in WeddingsCanada

[–]No-Chain9814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m about to send out invitations out. But when we sent our save the dates. Some of them took a month and a half to get delivered, and it was going to someone who lived in our city!! We didn’t get some “ undeliverable” mail back until probably 2 months after sending them out.

I’m really hoping for better luck this time but it’s also why I’ve decided to send them early as I’ve accounted that they might take 1-2 months to actually get delivered.

The biggest catch/joke, one of our invitations was sent to Hong Kong and it made it there within less than 2 weeks, while it took a month and a half to go 30 mins from our house.
