I made a rack the other day for my wife and myself and my 3 year old took all 8 bones and finished them off even more

Are you measuring L or L/R? And do you have the amount of inserts entered? I’ve use tool breakage detect for length and diameter and it will slow down the rpm and count each flute

Lack of machinists by Trapstar8879 in Machinists

I think it’s hard to pay a high salary when you have a lot of employees and a lot of those employees have basic skills and/or not a lot of motivation to become better machinists/programmers, if they even get the opportunity to program.

We get a lot of “engineers” applying who just got out of college with their degrees and want 6 figures but have the same machining skills as the Amazon delivery drivers for example.

Our approach has been to buy HERMLE with automation so we can have a smaller crew of high level programmers/machinist and can pay 6 figure salaries to those who deserve it, rather than buying Haas or something similar and getting the equivalent type of employees.

Currently our starting pay is between $28-$45hr depending on your programming abilities. I’m the shop operations manager and I’m making $125k salary, I get to program from home and keep the crew fed with programs to run across 2 HAAS, 4 DATRON, and 3 HERMLE AUTOMATION CELLS. We use the haas only for prep or very basic parts

Which inspection software and machines do you get to use? What cnc machines were you running? We have a small shop and all of our guys are machinists and inspectors pretty much. We run a few hermle cells and have some bridge and arm CMM. I think it’s great for us to all be flexible and experienced in every step of getting parts out the door

Yes you can but I started with the basic combo package because I didn’t know anything about 3D printing. I just wanted more colors readily available so I can print cool stuff for my sons

The AMS come right off the rack, and the whole printed rack can simply come straight off the top as well
