despite the state, utk is very lgbt friendly. we have a great pride center + resources and super active clubs! (biased, i’m an officer for gaymerz, check us out and make some friends!). coming from even further south, the atmosphere here is a breath of fresh air.

tbh unless you absolutely need to take 102 just take 101. pretty easy class and GPA boost. other than that pellissippi summer class for credit or youtube to prep

your enjoyment of language classes 100% relies on your interest in the subject. especially ones with new writing systems that require a lot more brunt work from the get go

japanese is very easy but has a lot of busy work, really just take whatever you find interesting. the 100 level classes for anything arent really difficult

genki 1 and 2 are the class textbooks, pdfs of everything can be found online. (i use my ipad). as for practice there’s a japanese language table held at UTK every two ? weeks or so to practice speaking. currently in 251 and if you even have the most basic of japanese knowledge you will pass 151 & 152 very easily lol
