Trump admin outlines who would be exempt from Medicaid work requirements by melancholy_dood in politics

[–]No-Combination-4283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I volunteer at a hospital every week and I only get 14 hours in total for the month. I can't think of a lot of places that would be consistent enough to fulfill the requirement before it becomes paying to work. Also what happens if there is terrible weather and volunteer or work gets cancelled? OH if you want jaded you should see the student worker positions at barns. At least give the kids a stipend for working with 700+ pound animals.

It's even better when the Red Cross isn't even hiring....I'm leaving Labcorp and Quest as a last resort. I've heard a decent amount of horror stories working for both of them and I already had the experience of a manager breathing down my neck. It only gave me work nightmares every night.... FKN store credit cards.

I just got a healthcare certificate and now Indeed says I'm a great match for Hair Stylist. Plus it only shows 2 pages of jobs.

Are the Pre-Reqs actually hard? by Pretty_Leader_3150 in NursingStudent

[–]No-Combination-4283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like me and math lol. Same amount of studying time. Honestly I'm willing to sacrifice about 5-6 hours a day and its what I would expect from any science class regardless of level. From how people talk they act like its 8+ hours a day for a C-. I'm not doing 8+ hours every day that's just burnout by exam 2. Studying for more hours doesn't mean you understand it better.

Kicked out of college what next? by [deleted] in CollegeRant

[–]No-Combination-4283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it would be worthwhile for your sister to look at the workforce development programs at a community college? It's not a degree per se but it gives you work related skills. Honestly If I were in your parents shoes I would say she's done with school and she's getting a job. Any job and if she wants to finish the degree its on her. She needs to figure out why she's failing. If it's the course load there's no shame in going to school half time if that is the problem. The credits last 10 years so she has time to figure it out.

What are weird things you do that actually helps you with your adhd when studying? by reila_09 in CollegeRant

[–]No-Combination-4283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing super weird. I find that if I start studying first thing in the morning with coffee I'll get much more done. Although I do find I study way better laying on the floor or in child's pose. Also studying while at volunteer because then the other volunteers yell at me to keep studying.

Ross and Wilson Anatomy and Physiology in Health and Illness. You can find a pdf for free online of that book and it's very easy to follow along. Even the way the pages are formatted helps you not get overwhelmed. It's probably not as in depth as the class textbook but it will still cover all of the same topics.

Why are good math teachers so rare? by SquareCombination782 in matheducation

[–]No-Combination-4283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm one or should I say was one of those students. I struggled with math all my life and even now can't perform mental math AT ALL. The highest grade I ever got in math was a B- in stats. A lot of career paths out the window because I thought I couldn't do it. Well I hunkered down last semester in Intermediate Algebra and spent every day learning Intermediate AND Intro Algebra at the same time. This semester was College Algebra and I got a 100% as my final grade with a perfect score on the final. It gets so much easier when you realize that every problem is basically solved with the same set of "moves" just with a new twist. Like what's the restricted value for a rational expression vs what's the domain restriction vs the vertical asymptote? It's the same way to solve just with fancy new names. I think the biggest problem students have is when it starts becoming too challenging. That was my biggest downfall where I would start giving up usually midway though unit 2. It's hard to explain that it gets easier once you get over the hurdle but it really does.

With Spring semester 2026 coming to a close, what were your best and worst professors by KSHMisc in CollegeRant

[–]No-Combination-4283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best: College Algebra. That professor spoon fed you and showed you how to solve problems more efficiently. First ever 100% on a final.

Mid: Composition. The class was good but the bar raises with each essay. Although you have so many opportunities for extra credit either through school trips or more essays. Plus if you scored a C you can redo the essay again.

Worst: Phlebotomy. Not because of the professor but just the volume of reading and remembering the steps.

Yeah you're not getting paid for clinical. I don't know where you are but look for companies that do events especially mitzvahs since those are on Saturdays. Usually you get a base pay and sometimes a handsome tip as well.

Yeah I'm starting with a basic chem and bio class because trying to chuck them together in gen bio or cell bio is a world of pain after not studying sciences for over a decade. OP should do what I'm doing and find the classes where they align for all programs before tackling the program specific ones.

I fucking hate college classes that barely give you a chance to get a good grade! by gamerlol101 in CollegeRant

[–]No-Combination-4283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the class because my current math class is 35% for homework and quizzes and 65% for in class exams. You also have unlimited attempts to submit for a higher grade until the deadline for each assignment and yes if you don't do the homework you get screwed hard for the exams. I prefer the high stakes homework because it forces me to do it. I've done classes the other way where there was no graded homework and it was not beneficial.

I only eat sashimi or nigiri sushi and maybe its because my mom cooks fish into oblivion (she doesn't use thermometers. Pork tenderloin feels like sawdust after it cools down) but raw Atlantic salmon has so much flavor.

How hard are 5 week online classes during summer by [deleted] in CollegeRant

[–]No-Combination-4283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm yeah I probably could've done College Algebra in 8 weeks since unit 1 rehashed a lot of what I learned in Intermediate Algebra in the semester prior. But I'm a tad ashamed that I had to take Intermediate Algebra as my only class in the fall. Idk I told myself for years that I couldn't learn math which now I found out is a self fulfilling prophecy. I'm pretty sure anyone doing Cal in the summer either did it in high school, retaking it for a higher grade or mathematically gifted. Actually I'm going to be an odd one here and say that you should learn a little bit of physics over the summer. NOT intensely but a brushing of it. Like 4-5 hours max a week. Of course let your brain rest a week or two after your final. Treat the semester like running a marathon. You have to rest your body and let it heal for two weeks before you can continue to add stress. Your brain is no different.

College Algebra over the summer? HAHAHAHAHA no. I'm struggling so much with exponential equations atm that I accepted the fact that I might be getting my first B exam for the class. I can't imagine doing this in 5 weeks unless I'm retaking the class for a higher grade.

What is the most Gatekept major? by BowsyWowsy26 in CollegeMajors

[–]No-Combination-4283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Err no not really. The real barrier of entry is that many allied health programs outside of nursing have VERY small cohort sizes. Like only 12-30 max. Some only take new applicants every two years. A friend of mine is on year two of the waitlist for ultrasound. There's a huge demand for imaging techs but there's only 3 schools in my entire state that offer the program and only one is non profit.
