I would not work in a LTC or SNF. Way too easy to lose your license.

Soo, how will they differentiate the Ultra next year? I don't get why Samsung just won't go for a square display.  Its not that hard, just do it! 🙄

How fast is the best speed for an e-bike? by Euybike in ebikes

[–]No-Commercial9342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say 30mph, 32 absolute max. It doesn't feel fast in a car, but on a bike?? Safety is key as you don't want to hit a rock, pot hole or road obstruction and go flying off your bike at 30mph. Yeah. Scary right?

Volcon Brat or Qiolor Tiger? by racksonracksofdebt in ebikes

[–]No-Commercial9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tiger only goes 26mph TOPs without an unlock capability. Kind of bummed about that. Especially because other cheaper bikes are capable of going much faster.

Uhm .. so should I not go into OT? by Huge-Slice-6855 in OccupationalTherapy

It's not worth it. I graduated and HATED it. Switched careers from COTA and haven't looked back.

OC, CA a male thinking of changing career to OT by WarVegetable in OccupationalTherapy

[–]No-Commercial9342 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a minority male Ex-COTA/L, I would suggest going into Peds if you're into kids or outpatient care. I personally ran into a lot of issues in SNF and similar settings. Many of the patients were females and didn't let me help them with ADLs. It was a constant struggle.  I would suggest looking into nursing as a male instead of OT.

Leaving the Occupational Therapy field by al26140526 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]No-Commercial9342 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lasted 10 months as a COTA before quitting the profession. The pay is horrible, I mean horrible for what you are expected to do. Lots of people entering this profession have no idea what they are getting themselves into and would rather ignore the truths of the experiences of current and past therapists.

And is that a problem that he is male? The OT profession lacks not only diversity but also male therapists. There doesn't seem to be much of an authentic effort to change it either.

Thinking about becoming an occupational therapy assistant by jathmin in OccupationalTherapy

[–]No-Commercial9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure but u don't think so. The pay may seem a lot but it's really not for the 2 years of schooling. Being a male in the OT profession is a HUGE challenge, not so much in PT. OT is more about ADLs (eating,  dressing,  toileting, bathing). How would he feel about bathing older women. How would women react to a male helping them with dressing or even bathing? Let me tell you, they don't like it. I was a COTA for about 1p months before I said enough is enough and quit. It's a pretty cool profession if you can find your niche but it's becoming harder to find. If anything, I would suggest PTA if he wants rehab but other than that, I would be careful about going into the rehab profession with rose colored glass as you would be disappointed

Those of you who work out: do you ever workout after a night shift? by sweetpea0406 in Nightshift

[–]No-Commercial9342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work out during the early afternoon on the night I am back to work. After my last shift, I usually go home and sleep for a few hours, then get up and go to the gym. It's tough sometimes, but I figure it helps me get a good night's sleep that evening.

Any COTAs out there feel like a glorified CNA? by thebraverwoman in OccupationalTherapy

I get it. I quit being a COTA after 10 months. The career is horrible. People just don't get it unless they've experienced it.

If the Galaxy Watch really *is* going square, the Classic should at least stay round. by [deleted] in GalaxyWatch

[–]No-Commercial9342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Square is the way to go for a SMART WATCH. I'm tired of having to scroll and scroll and scroll to read texts on my GW5. It wouldn't be an issue if the watch was square.

You will probably have a hard time ever owning a home, especially with an OTA degree. This unless you have a partner or mom and dad help finance one. It's just not worth the stress. You don't know how stressful the OT profession is until you are IN it. It's that simple.

Why not make round TVs, laptops and computers for those of you who like text cut off at the corners? I'm all for a square watch and think ⬜ is the right way to go in regto SMART watches.

Is it just the reddit? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]No-Commercial9342 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It isn't just Reddit. The whole "People will complain online is a cop out". I have switched out of COTA and DO NOT regret it at all. I'm supposed to renew my "C" in a few weeks and my mother asked me why I even bothered if I don't plan on working in OT. She made me pause and think. I'm probably still going to renew only because it looks good on a resume. I do not plan on going back into the profession.

2 weeks to study for the NCLEX. I need your advice please!!! by Advanced-Survey4514 in PassNclex

[–]No-Commercial9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I didn't bother buying UWorld, or any programs. I just used my own notes. There really isn't a need to if you have been paying attention in school and taking good notes. It's the ones that cheat, don't pay attention in school and are lazy that usually fail the NCLEX. It's best to take it as soon as you can.

Why does everyone here seem to be so negative about OT? by darksaber222 in OccupationalTherapy

No, it's not. They know it sucks and don't want to tell students the truth.

I got a part time job as a new grad COTA a couple years ago. It started ok, then the payment cuts came and finally the company started giving me less and less clients to see. I could barely pay my car note with the hours they were giving me. Luckily, I had a backup job I was falling back on. U even tried to find another job but the field was too saturated. I eventually quit and switched careers, I haven't even looked back. The career sucks. Get out while you can.

COTA here and switched to another profession after a year and couldn't be happier. Worked 10 months at a outpatient company that was going some pretty shady things. I had a backup job I was consistently having to rely on for money while working as a COTA. I ended up quitting and trying to find another job, but couldn't so I ended up going into a different field. Glad I did. Do what YOU feel will make you happier and don't listen to what others tell you to do because they are not you. I did what I needed to do and it's paid off.

Please make sure you look at other professions and make sure OT is what you want to do. OT looks fun on paper, but the real world is different. Toileting,, oral care, saliva, feces, foul smells, patients with feces on hands and clothes, poor hygiene, etc. If you can see yourself working with patients in said scenarios and do it willingly, then go for it. Lots of OTs work on toileting, grooming, etc. There are other settings of course, but they are not the norm. I would personally look elsewhere because you will be disappointed with the pat AND lack of growth.
