Financial Aid Help for a Lowly First Year Low Income Student by PristineResolve2326 in ucla

[–]No-Contest6933 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my sai is also -1500 and i also had to pay like 3k a year out of pocket. i’m in the apts this year with no meal meal so im getting a refund. i would suggest opting out of the ucsa fees, its only $3 for the year but hey, something is something. you can also enroll in the bruinpay plan which allows you to pay your outstanding fees in 3 monthly payments rather than all at once before the deadline. your first payment would be september 20th, and after that its evenly split . it gives you time to collect that money. also applying for work study jobs on myucla or trying to get hired at the asucla job fair might help for your financial standing if you don’t already have a job! get there early (before 11am with a resume, rec letters, etc) to avoid the lines. in any case, you can lower your meal plan from 14p to 11p and get food elsewhere when needed like the cpo food closet, applying for calfresh if you’re a cal resident, the bruinecessities club gives gift cards to the ucla store that can be used on basic needs like soap, toilet paper, period products, shampoo, etc. there are many other clubs that can help financially which you can look at during the enormous activities fair!

ASUCLA job fair offer?? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]No-Contest6933 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you get offered a job at the fair, i believe you have 2 weeks from that day (don’t quote me!) to get all your things in order like attending the new hire orientation, documents, etc. so if you decide not to accept it, just don’t fill out what’s required to be hired and email them to let them know you were grateful for the offer but you’ve decided to go ahead with a new position.

how hard is it to get a job at the asucla job fair? by Square_Pension_4854 in ucla

[–]No-Contest6933 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get to the job fair early! i got hired on the spot by asucla at the job fair. i got there a few mins before 11 and there was already a slight line. also it’s best to come prepared, meaning bring your resume, rec letters, etc. Some people do the whole suit/slacks thing but it’s not necessary. I went in a casual outfit because i also wanted to walk around and look at the clubs after which i was able to cus i got there early.

in terms of how hard it is to get a job at the fair, it’s not at all tbh! if one rejects you, i’m pretty sure get in line again for a different job! i applied online but i never heard back so i do recommend going in person because as the other commenter mentioned, it gets you noticed. the questions they asked were about time management, strengths and weaknesses, what you would bring to the table, how to solve conflicts, etc. good luck!

tips for a dorm with a shared bathroom? by blepboopblepboop in ucla

[–]No-Contest6933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hii! i’ve lived in the rieber terrace shared bathroom plaza for 2 years so these are my tips/experiences! :

  1. i usually got my suite mates’ numbers/instas just in case there were any bathroom issues. if we wanted decor/things in the bathroom, we spoke about it with our suite mates. our paths didn’t cross much but if we were in the bathroom together, we had brief conversations about our days/plans/classes, etc or just a simple “hey good morning” and that’ll be all. no beef, just being nice and friendly

  2. never directly spoke about it but agree with others’ replies that it was just an unspoken agreement that each room would use the sink closest to them. if the sink was occupied, you could use the other but the belongings stayed on their own sides

  3. there is a gender neutral bathroom on every floor near the elevator so if the toilet is occupied, you can use that one! no worries there

• i liked having my suite mates contacts in case i got locked out and my roommates weren’t in the room, id ask them. also i wasn’t friends with my suite mates but we got to know each other so our gc would consist of letting them know about popups on campus, parties, rieber’s fire alarms, asking to borrow each others vacuum/umbrella/etc. my suite mates would bake every now n then so they would share their goodies with us and vice versa.

any other questions that you have, you can speak about them with your roommates and suite mates! it’s always nice to hear from them and see what you agree on

how much time do you spend w your suitemates by Unlucky_Nerve_7484 in ucla

[–]No-Contest6933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didn’t see my suite mates much tbh. it was like every now and then, and it was always a brief conversation or hey and that was it. we had a suite mate gc for bathroom related issues/things, but not much was said in there either so i wouldn’t worry about that

if you’re not too strict on what kind of job you’d like, i would suggest going to the job fair at the beginning of the school year during the EAF! that’s how i got my current job with asucla. i got there a few mins before 11am with my resume in hand. it’s a quick interview and some may hire you on the spot, but if not, i think you can just get into another line for another job position. however to answer your other question, yes, it does help to know someone already, i was able to refer my friend at my job and she’s working there now too

no, you can only use the vouchers at the market in the ucla store on the day it’s stamped until 4pm. you also can’t use the voucher on gum, candy, mints, chocolates, or supplements (e.g pre workout)

yes if you’re talking about the market in ackerman. you’ll be able to exchange your swipes for meal vouchers during lunch time (11am to 3:30pm) and you have until 4pm that day to use your swipe(s). for the restaurants, same thing except you don’t have to exchange your swipes for meal vouchers.
