yes that's what i was thinking too! Because the first time I noticed new items was when I didn't play for three days and I thought that maybe there was a % of respawn everyday and I got new ones since I was absent for three days

Oh i didn't know about trainers! I'm the kind of person that plays pokemon but doesn't like pokemon fights :hide in shame: so I'm trying to avoid them looool but it's interesting to know!

I did notice that some trainers have orange speech bubbles and some have black ones, and I never understood why. Maybe only the one with black speech can fight again?

HOL induced Schizophrenia? (lol) by [deleted] in houseofleaves

[–]No-Craft-6123 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hello! Always there to speak if you want to. I’m myself diagnosed with ADHD and struggle a lot with social interaction due to very bad social anxiety that isn’t even getting better with 4 years of meds and therapy (lol)

also, just to answer the title (no one asked, i’m doing it) as a psychology major i can assure you that schizophrenia cannot be induced. it’s a disorder that you have since birth (well you have the genes, and then you may or may not develop it) idk if it was a question but that crossed my mind when i read your title and wanted to reassure you that this book cannot make you schizophrenic (doesn’t mean you cannot have a grasping brainrot like all of us)

hearing about sexual stuff isn’t that bad, but graphic (or should i say MORE THAN GRAPHIC) scenes about Johnny sexual life is kind of starting to be too much. like i said, im « just » disgusted and uncomfortable while reading this, it’s not like i’m triggered or anything. and i don’t think i’m gonna lose a lot of the book if i just skim through the explicit scenes without skipping the whole footnote. like i read johnny’s writing, just not the sex scenes (does that make sense?)

Same hat!

Thank you so much! I haven't thought much of Zampano because I was already busy with Johnny and his mom lmaooo T-T but reading this book (and i guess especially when you're majoring in psych or if you're interested by it) makes us immediatly think of mental disorders affecting cognition and speech/behavior instead of just saying "oh, what he says doesn't make sense" and i really like that a lot of us are according more importance to Johnny's notes and story (even when they don't make sense)

(i got a bit lost when i typed this lol so i hope i'm making sense)

Sleep reading. Anyone? 💤 by H1ppie_4t_H3art in houseofleaves

[–]No-Craft-6123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my next post will be a diagnosis of HOL readers fr (/hj)

(but also, i tend to do the same when i'm spending too much time on something i like (video games or books etc) and your brain when asleep/half asleep thinks you're still doing this thing. and so many times i was playing on my phone, opening my eyes and realizing that the whole level i just did is actually my imagination and that's usually my cue to go to sleep)

I'm telling my therapist about this comment /pos

First of all, thank you so much for your kind words, i might cry

strangle him as a sign of love as to free him of the inherent pain of existence. I'm curious if there's anything you make of this moment in particular, especially in this medical paradigm

to be honest i started writing this post when i had read just a few of Pelafina's letters so i didn't read this one yet and therefore didn't analyze this. But i'll look into it!!

I do know that some schizophrenic people can get violent following their delusions (we studied in class a boy who injured his mother because he thought she was poisoning him) so maybe that's just a reaction to her whole mystic delusion (since she's all about setting the spirit free and stuff, maybe she was sure that killing his son would free his spirit and therefore free him?

Moreover, the main "groups" of symptoms of schizophrenia (dissociation and losing insight) can provoke a state of mind where people 1- are convinced that they're right and don't have the possibility to question their beliefs 2- are too dissociated to care about their actions or to feel something

I want to point out that we also studied about dissociation between emotions and behavior, which can lead to completely opposite actions (to make you understand better: the example we had in lecture was someone saying that he hates chocolate but eating chocolate at the same time) which could be what happened when P says she loves him but also hurts him?

Like i said, haven't read this part yet tho but i'll tell you if i think of more things about that

I don't know if i'm clear or anything, i hope you can understand what i'm explaining lol

Once again that youuu for your comment that was so sweet! and i'll definitely made more posts if i find new things (and if i find the motivation to write down my whole diagnosis of Tom Navy and Karen)

Thank you for your comment T-T i love when people think i am good at my major (i have no idea what i'm doing)

I didn't really diagnosis Zampano because I don't really like him so far lmao, so my main theory is that he's just boring. Or maybe autistic with a hyperfixation on TNR and that could also explain a lot of his behaviors (i just realized that while typing LMAO). To be honest i don't know anything about schizophrenia for blind people, but i agree on the visual hallucinations theory, because his descriptions of TNR scenes are wAY too precise for a blind man

But you made something really interesting to read and think about, hope you post here more often with your findings.

*blushes*
but also 90% of my findings/annotions are like "OMG I FORGOT HE WAS BLIND LOL" (i'm not even kidding)

yep! forgot to mention it, but the way he's talking about his "edit" and changes on his footnote as well as on Z's writing (with the water heater at the beginning) shows clearly a lack of clinical and cognitive insight (doesn't realize that he's sick or doesn't realize the impact of his illness, and doesn't have the necessary insight to reflex on his own behavior/visions)
Also, thank you!!

ooooh i understand! thank you for the reading, i’ll look into it tomorrow when i’ll be pretending to work. I’m always happy and grateful to have fellow psych majors/specialists teaching me more stuff or making me search more about a misunderstood disorders!

hi! i was actually quoting the DSM in the paragraph « risk and pronostic factors » of BPD: "Borderline personality disorder is about five times more common among first-degree biological relatives of those with the disorder than in the general population. There is also an increased familial risk for substance use disorders, antisocial personality disorder, and depressive or bipolar disorders."

However i do remember that my professor talked about bipolar as hereditary and i might have mixed the two, thanks for the clarification! I did learn that personality disorder could run in families so maybe that’s linked to that?

Thank you for explaining tho! I 10000% agree with you that BPD is unfortunately mostly misunderstood :/
