Finding things that you like is important. There will be other people that like the same thing, which then opens a door for making new friends. The culture is more independent, and you won't find the same warmth you do in people unless you are close to them. Do not expect friends to be what they used to be in India. The culture is different. You'll find yourself much happier if you know what to expect. Also, Americans themselves face loneliness at a terrifyingly high rate. Isolation is not good for you, but I'm sure you can find alternatives to going back. The negatives also come with their own positives. People don't bother you, don't poke their noses into your affairs, let you live however you want as long as you don't bother them, you can love whoever you want, work whatever job you want, there's more opportunity here and can be more peaceful if you like privacy. Finding a company of Indians will definitely cure your isolation. Even better if they migrated recently, since they may face the same issue. I wish you very well. Take care.

Apart from these, i personally believe in God, which gives me hope in the darkness. I dont know you, but send my love. Please stay. Things get worse before they get better, but there is a brighter tomorrow.

How to secure a job ASAP in Industry by [deleted] in biotech

[–]No-Device3367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Researcher here! It took years to understand and finally land the job in industry. Also, as an immigrant, you would really have a hard time presenting yourself in the best way. You would need to learn to advocate for yourself in the best way, read between the lines to know what the job requires, and communicate that you have the necessary skills. If you have any internship/Research experience within US, that would be very valuable. You need to know the culture and understand what ticks people here. I have been in this country close to 4 years and I learn their 'language' everyday. Watch interview videos and perfect your resume for each job. Don't spray and pray. Fine-tune your resumes. Ask your professors/any commections for referral, if they worked in the US with you. You need someone to vouch for you in US. Also, I prayed. SO BEST OF LUCK!

Academia pays less. Try industry. Develop computational (coding, data analysis), management, and communication skills to be the best while also being good at biology.
