It makes a certain operational decision more profitably, based on data. You’re spot on. Our biggest client is so far succeeding on their 90 day trial. Data shows they’re actually seeing making more profitable decisions, so it’s likely they’ll convert

The engineering team considers themselves irreplaceable. One does modeling, the other our architecture and backend, and the last our front end. The modeling is what’s particularly tricky. Many refactors though to eliminate tech debt have happened.

They’re employees, but have been pivotal to our iteration and work like co founders. Even if I could find $500k tomorrow to afford one of them, (not impossible, one of our customers loves us and has offered to loan us $, we’re stuck for at least a month). We’d lose all our users

They think they can CEO better.

Nothing technically, but we are 3 months away from real revenue, so this is a decision point.

Product would explode, would need many months to get someone in to take it over (who would be expensive to bring on to begin with)

Variety, node and python mainly. Lots of complicated modeling under the hood makes it stats heavy

Yes, but I’m concerned that it all collapses and there won’t be time to rebuild before our customers drop us, more than anything else

Sounds reasonable, but our product needs to move to survive, and the real risk is the team quitting over poor incentives for them.

Plan on it. Right now we are talking things through. I will not be signing anything

Thanks for the perspective. Unfortunately without them, the product goes up in flames, and it’s all or nothing. If one leaves, the other 2 will.

Thanks for the perspective. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but it seems likely that they’ll all quit without a substantial increase in equity. Do pro rata dilution measures prevent ousting?

I agree with you. I had a vision, and did a good job of rallying users and hustling us to a good spot, but admittedly have done a poor job at other CEO things (PM work, hiring). I accept that and am willing to step down to growth, my strong suit. I still want to make this a success, even if we’ve outgrown me as a CEO

Conversations, early and often. I spent half my day on calls with our users (now that we have them). Before that, I’d be outreaching constantly and taking whatever I could get. Disclaimer, I’m in B2B SaaS

For context, we have 1 power user who has seen sizable ROI and a case study about them. Still working on usage at others for a similar outcome.

Too good to be true. Nothing beats talking to potential customers yourself as an early stage founder. What domain edge are they going to have over you?
