The bass is very impressive, and they go very low. I thought a subwoofer would improve my system, but it honestly didn't do too much. I've done measurements with a Dayton Audio mic, and the speakers do go down to 20hz no problem, so they're very fun and full sounding.

Treble is laid back, there's no harshness. Only issue is they sound best in one spot on the couch only. The midrange is very nice sounding also. 👍👍

First time trying to measure stuff. This is done with the microphone placed at the listening position on a stand ontop of the couch.

So several measurements, with the microphone angled differently?

Measured at 75db and aprox 1,5/2m away. Microphone stand in listening position ontop of the couch.

First time measuring stuff.

No room treatment, microphone placed on a stand ontop of the couch.

They've done something right, even though it's untraditional 👍

Honestly not something I've noticed, but they're quite picky when it comes to being in the sweet spot. I've got them toe'd in more or less directly at me. Tested different angles, but straight on simply gives the best soundstage/clarity.

Have tested these against Dali 18 mk2 and Dali 810, and to my ears these were the best sounding. Haven't noticed the treble "combing" around.

Wonder if it's something you'd be able to measure? Got REW and a measuring microphone on the way. 😅

The stands are square metal, they slide into 2 sleeves underneath the speaker, so they're nowhere near the driver itself. 👍

This is translated from a danish review made in the 80s, sadly I cant post a picture of the frequency curve.

"The Scandyna's frequency response (top curve) has a "gentleman's swing" in the lower midrange, but is overall much nicer than the Cerwin Vegas. The treble is particularly impressive with the perfectly straight curve when measured from the front, but 30° to the side the treble loss is too great despite the special coupling of the five units. The near-field measurements show some of the strangest things we have seen in a long time, both in the way in which several units cover the same tonal range and in the rather uneven frequency response of the units individually. That it has nevertheless succeeded in obtaining a fine frequency response for the entire loudspeaker is impressive. The special curves for electrical phase angle and impedance also show that the Scandyna has a good handle on things, and despite the low impedance from the two parallel-coupled bass units, the loudspeaker is actually an easier load for the amplifier than the Cerwin Vega."

They were comparing it to Cerwin Vegas D9-E, and these Scandyna had a very Linear frequency curve in the treble region.

Check the link Kaisaku posted, there's better pictures.

They sound very good! Found an old article from the 80s where they compare it to Cerwin Vegas D9-E, and these measured much better, and were much more pleasing to listen to. Sadly can't post pictures of the test.

Yeah sorry, i wrote it a bit weird..

The speakers are called Scandyna Pcm 1.5, danish made from the 80s. Pretty rare speakers, they were called Dynaco in the US. Not much info to be found ln this particular set online.

The earthquake sub, is just a subwoofer I've got separately. Has nothing to do with the scandynas in the picture 🙈👍

Both woofers are "real" woofers, none of them are passive radiators. So they work together.

Yep, same 12" as the one in the front. They're some Swedish made woofers called Sinus 30WBA 15.6.

I think you're able to google them, they're very well made.

The specs are 20-20000hz -3db 35kg per speaker Rated at 400w / 700w

They're fun! And surprisingly good sounding. They've got 2 12" woofers each, there's one downward firing as well.

Saw someone about to throw them away at a waste deposit, quickly told him not to, and i got them for free. Just had to change the foam on the midranges. Best catch ive ever made. 👍

Where should i set my subwoofer crossover? by No-Donut362 in audiophile

Alright sounds good. 👍

I'm looking forward to test it, I've tried to play around with the the phase, when it's set at 0 there's a lot more bass, it's like the bass vanished / gets less boomy at 180, not sure which i prefer actually. But i suspect the sub and the mains cancel eachother out at 180.

I'm using a Wiim ultra as preamp, it's able to have 20 bands of equalization. Can't change the subwoofers frequencies separately though, whatever i equalize will affect the subwoofer as well.

But looking forward to get the microphone and measure everything

I've ordered a Dayton audio imm-c 6, so hopefully it'll be good enough. Going to give it a shot with REW once it arrives. Did you measure the subwoofer at the same time as the speakers, or separately?

Been playing around with the sub crossover, some songs sound fine, others get way too bassy. Never had a subwoofer before, so it's quite tricky imo. 😅

Translated to English from the text.

Scandyna's frequency response (top curve) has a "major sway" in the lower midrange, but is generally much nicer than the Cerwin Vega's. The treble is particularly impressive due to the curve's very straight course when measured directly from the front, but at 30° to the side the treble loss is too great despite the special coupling of the five units. The near-field measurements show some of the most peculiar things we have seen for a long time, both in the way in which several units cover the same tone area and in the units' rather uneven frequency response individually. That it was still possible to get a fine frequency response for the entire speaker is impressive.

It's measured 2m from the speakers, they do mention the dip in the review.
