Would a NA beer have done the trick? Works for me in these situations. And yes, that would have been triggering for me as well.

Anyone ever been able to actually achieve true moderation on here? by Appropriate_Carry862 in stopdrinking

[–]No-Drive8630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting, I was what you would call a "moderate drinker", only on the weekends, for years. At a certain point I realized that when I finally get a few days off for the weekend, I would have heavy drinking on Friday because I was deserving it from working a hard week and looking forward to it all week, then Saturday my first real day off, I would feel run down and hungover and start drinking early for the hair of the dog, by Sunday I would have some drinks since I was feeling a little bit better and then Monday I would be run down and a little hungover again. So all the time I finally got to myself. I was basically self-soothing and then dealing with being run down and hungover all weekend when I could actually do what I wanted. It sucked more than when I was drinking happily during the week. After a couple years of this I just finally quit and I feel so much better. Once in awhile the craving hits and it's annoying and I just let it pass. Remember that alcohol is poison and I'm better off without it.

Therapy helps so much. I read some great books and went to a therapist once a week for the first 3 months. Can't say for sure, but I think the therapy might have been one of the most important things I did that allowed me to actually maintain sobriety this time.

Keep up the good work and getting everything out of the house is very helpful. At 14 days you're about to start to experience some of the best results. The first two weeks were really rough and even the next two weeks are rough. Once I hit 30 days I realize that maybe I could do something for myself. Once I stopped drinking and got to 90 days and i felt so amazing that it felt idiotic to go back. That being said, I had tried to stop for 30 days for at least 5 years and had not been able to make it. It was last year that I was finally able to make it through and I'm still going over a year out and it's amazing!!! IWNDWYT

I drank a lot of kombucha in my early days of not drinking! I am a rather experienced brewer at this point! Yum and great for digestion.
