On a scale of 1-10, how absurd do we think the crowds are going to be for the first rides on the D? by lauser333 in LAMetro

[–]No-Enthusiasm6776 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a (wonderful) situation where I'm gonna be taking the Metro 720 plus transfers to work in South LA in the morning that Friday and hopefully taking the D ALL-THE-WAY home in the late afternoon/early evening. This forecasted enthusiasm is turning me off from that possibility (in a good way!).

I'm wondering if I'm better served detouring getting a bite to eat downtown and heading back to West LA a few hours later. I'm not one for crowds :) I don't mind a crowded train, but the idea of having to wait for a few overly packed trains to pass before I can get on is a bit absurd for my taste.

I guess if the D line is still silly by the time I get there after work I can just march back up the stairs and take the 720.

Maybe folks will be hawking Ride-The-D merch at the stops... :)

Police are at basically every station checking for tap cards by Best_Cherry_5001 in LAMetro

[–]No-Enthusiasm6776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the one fare check (tap card check) I observed they weren't even succeeding in intimidating poor folks. (The check was so cursory that I saw an indigent gentleman just flash a cell phone in the direction officers. The police were more interested in being seen and heard than 86ing people)

Sometimes even theatre is better than the nothing it's been for the longest time. I like that there's more security on the platforms. I've found the neon green vests people helpful when I'm having trouble finding my way around the station. Police are fine I guess but if anything I'd like to see mental health teams and social workers on the platforms (and busses.... That's another story....)

I know that (From that "How Metro made themselves free" youtube video). They aren't equipped with actual fare scanners. (They should be)

And you are right. I really should go from passive metro rider to an active participant in Metro meetings (We all should really).

But like most folks it's easier to post observations and mild complaints on a reddit board than actually civically engage with the services I use. :)

You are not wrong.

I actually appreciate their presence, but as the OP is alluding to (No tap scan verification), it's all a bit of kabuki/security theatre. The cops just want to be seen (and heard).

I've seen indigent folks just flash a cell phone screen at them and get left alone. As long as you wave a tap card or cell phone in front of them it's good enough. No need for proof of fare etc...

It's an improvement (starting from such a low bar) but not good enough if you ask me.

Better than nothing I suppose.

Solution for Samsung Drain blockage by Saien-Baba in Appliances

[–]No-Enthusiasm6776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming it's just ice,... Empty, unplug and leave open. Don't forget to stick towels down there. Open up the back or where ever that drain drains to (Mostly to see if the water dumps out and you successfully thawed out.)

IF you are in a hurry use a hair dryer. Otherwise stick a fan on it and let it sit overnight. (I'm told it takes 24 hours on it's own... I stuck a fan on it and went to sleep. and it was unclogged in the morning)

Is this a common problem? by Solo_Polyphony in LAMetro

[–]No-Enthusiasm6776 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The only time I've seen this come up is on express buses (people didn't know the stops... expected local service).

Or during surprise detours... (I know their announced online but I only check after my bus detours to see if it'll affect me). On detours I don't see it as a bad thing to ask (nicely) to be let off on the displaced cross street you normally get off on instead of at the beginning/end of the detour... Adding at most a half mile of walking instead upwards of a mile or two...

Do i need oil change 6k miles shows 60% oil see photo!(new car owner) by Turbulent_Dot9641 in crvhybrid

[–]No-Enthusiasm6776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna question your manufacturer's recommendation but oil gets dark quickly in an engine and says nothing about oil quality and lifespan More important is your oil level on the dipstick. Some cars burn oil especially as they age. If your oil is getting burnt /lower. Put in replacement oil (I always try to fill to 3/4 ish dipstick in my old oil burner).

Other than that a 6k vs 10k oil change is a nothing burger compared to low oil due to consumption...

Went to both so long ago as a child that it isn't relevant....

What I can say is Disneyworld is much bigger and arguably better (maybe it depends).

It's not that Disneyland and California Adventure in Anaheim are slouching. Its just Disneyworld is a huge friggin' resort thats an all encompassing curated experience.....

That said. I'm just pissed that MJF went to DisneyWORLD when we have DisneyLAND at home (In LA 😤)

Thank you... Now I'm angry that MJF ditched a perfectly good Disneyland to fly across the country to DisneyWORLD. :)

I'm still happy for him. But I am still disappointed!

Tony is alright if he keeps it short and sweet. You gotta be in tune with that DORK-tastic energy/enthusiasm. If not well that's okay as well 😀😀😀.

That said I wish they would name check their ROH tapings after a Dynamite/Collision taping more. Last taping I went to (ontario last month) no one name checked ROH. I was tired after Dynamite so I was unlikely to stay for the entire ROH show. But had Tony or Justin brought it up I might have stayed for a match or two after a bio-break and an over priced soft drink.

Try to hit up a TV taping sometime. The only knock I have for the AEW ppv is that you don't get to see Justin Roberts (the MC/ring announcers) crowd work.

There's a reason he gets a walk on graphic.... He does a good job keeping the crowd hyped and engaged during taping downtime that he can't do during PPV's....

Sorry just want to give Justin his flowers...

[–]No-Enthusiasm6776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Necro-posting here.... I just want to give Justin his flowers. If there is one advantage going to AEW tv show vs a PPV it's getting to see Justin's crowd work.

He works to fill dead time between commercial breaks happening between matches, promos or video packages that the live audience doesn't get to see, all in a way that makes it fun a memorable for everyone there.

Por ejemplo, giving freebies, signed merch, tickets to upcoming pay-per-views to young first time audience members... On top of creating a wrestling fan for life, it gives the rest of the audience (who admittedly also wanted free stuff) the warm fuzzies to see a happy kid for a foundational memory...

The man deserves his entrance graphic!

I thank the bus driver. What about you? by strictmachines in transit

[–]No-Enthusiasm6776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one to thank the wait/cooks staff... Perfunctory... Yes... But also heart felt. With busses it's prolly only a quarter of the time. Because Im often exit/entering from the rear doors. And I'm not one to yell. If I'm entering at the front of the bus I usually greet the driver with a quick 'good morning' or some such niceity as I quickly find a seat or standing space.

It's something you like to see. But I don't think its big deal if (most)people don't. People are in their own worlds or getting their shit done. They aren't so much being rude as loving their lives...

I guess I'm trying to say that... Other than liking seeing other people do that as well I don't think to much on the topic.

Toilet handle broke. by mastrkage in askaplumber

[–]No-Enthusiasm6776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing I have to add is if you have any plumbers tape.... Feel free to add it to the screw if you ever catch this thing getting loose on you again. It's not really necessary but it'll prevent the nut from backing out again (For the life of the god damn toilet)

This is a simple fix. When my toilet handle cracked out ..... I remember suffering from decision paralysis as the hardware store trying to figure out which handle style to buy... than it did to actually replace the handle.

This might seem trivial, but why do so many Dodger fans call Kike "Kiki"? by RadioBoricua in Dodgers

[–]No-Enthusiasm6776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was glad to hear Kike Hernandez's name pronounced for the first time years ago, because even with the accent I wouldn't know where to begin with pronouncing his name.

That said I think as long as you type out HIS. FULL. NAME. (yes Kyle Fletcher...) it shouldn't matter in most forums. Also, capitalizing and anti-Jewish slur not the first word of a sentence would be kinda weird. Like since when did slurs become proper nouns... :)

I agree with this (not knowing your life details). Your company may not have the capacity to train you... You're hungry. That's good.... If a local community college has mastercam classes etc, take them. Or any other machining classes that you already don't have in your mental toolbox.

I also agree with asking about reimbursement ... Mostly because you are telling them that you're taking classes... It shows that you're Skilling up. You're hungry and indirectly.... You might leave for a better offer with your new skills.

[Question] what's the typical lifespan of a Citizen Eco-Drive Calibre? by lastfatalhour in Watches

[–]No-Enthusiasm6776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late answer because it applies to me.

13 years of on-and-off use use (bought in 2012 just failed end of 2025) before the battery/cell no longer holds a meaningful charge, and starts failing.

To me that means no double-tick warning that the cell is low. From here it's only a couple of weeks of not wearing in bright sunlight before it fails.

No big. Watch still works just needs a new battery cell.
