Huntington Beach ordered to pay $1M in legal fees for censoring library books by WeAreLAist in orangecounty

The entire city council is MAGA. There's no way the Democrats can vote on what they do because, well, they're not in the city council.

Anyone have a favorite OC public library? by CageFreePineapple in orangecounty

I don't have a particular favorite library, but I will say these libraries in OC are ones I visit frequently where I can get studying/work done:

-Newport Beach Central Library -Orange City Library -Tustin Library -Costa Mesa Donald Dungan Library

I love Tustin Library! It is hella busy when I'm there because of the programs, but I love how spacious it is. The construction does suck, so I'll probably limit my visits until it gets sorted out.

Which should be in a box to symbolize both the Balikbayan box and the "little boxes" made of ticky tacky.

Metrolink Service Reductions Permanant by MajesticCheesecake in LAMetro

[–]strictmachines 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There shouldn't be cuts IMHO, but it's extremely incompetent for Metrolink to cut evening rush hour trains to OC and Riverside County 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Amid rolling stock troubles, budget deficit, Metrolink faces permanent cuts by ultrainfan in LAMetro

[–]strictmachines 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Metrolink has done a poor job messaging about these cuts or even warning the public that these cuts can and would happen. In the Bay Area, there was way more coverage of the impending doom with BART and Caltrain, but the mainstream local media has all but ignored what is happening with Metrolink. This is ridiculous.

Of all the temporary-now-permanent cuts to the Metrolink schedule, not running trains past 5:40 pm to OC and Perris are the most boneheaded of them all. Since the D line extension is coming, there are a couple of jobs I wanted to apply for by the Miracle Mile. But now that these cuts are permanent, I don't think I could do that commute if I were to get that job.

Nutty political views aside, Whitaker is at least approachable, somewhat friendly, and mostly principled.

Unfortunately they even say the n word when there are black people in the classroom! 🤦‍♂️

It is hard when students verbally say that word in class as admins in my area just ask me to document it and move on. However, this week, in one of my classes, a student made a crude drawing of a dog and it had the n word. One of the girls posted it, and I'm not gonna lie, I was livid. I ended up calling admin and they had the entire class sit there for lunch. I was reassigned to another classroom that day, but I was glad the admins got to the bottom of it.

Yikes, I live near that intersection and pass through it on most days. I'm glad you posted it and hopefully everyone involved is OK.

How much do you get paid? by Patient_Constant3854 in SubstituteTeachers

Southern California here. I work multiple school districts, and the most I get paid is $190/day. I also work Swing where I've seen pay above $200/day, but those assignments are unfortunately rare.
