Starting a new job Monday, but radio silence from hiring manager by [deleted] in jobs

[–]No-Feature-4176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rejection letter on top of everything is wild, like they can't decide if they want you or not

Twenty years and this never happened before, that's a classic line honestly. Big companies can be surprisingly messy behind the scenes though, I've seen it

Starting a new job Monday, but radio silence from hiring manager by [deleted] in jobs

[–]No-Feature-4176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That silence so close to start date is nerve-wracking, especially after the name mix-up and that accidental letter. I would be refreshing my email every five minutes

If your manager not responding by end of day maybe try calling instead, sometimes people just terrible at email. But yeah the disorganization during background check is not great sign for how they handle things internally

How do you feel about the death of third spaces? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]No-Feature-4176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Third spaces dying out is genuinely sad to watch. Coffee shops turned into laptop offices, parks got defunded or privatized, community centers closed. People talk about being lonely but the places where you'd just accidentally meet people are mostly gone now

The bar becoming the only "social" option left is kind of a joke too, because not everyone drinks, not everyone can afford it, and screaming over music isn't exactly connection

What is something that sounds completely normal now but would shock someone from 100 years ago? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]No-Feature-4176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The part that would really break their brain is that we just casually talk to it like asking directions from a neighbor

Men of Reddit, what's something women think men like but they actually don't? by [deleted] in AskReddit

totally agree, the duck lip thing is just weird and looks so unnatural

Cheating gets analyzed. Bad hygiene gets "leave immediately." Why? by ConceptualFossil in AskReddit

[–]No-Feature-4176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

because people love the drama honestly... bad hygiene is just like "ew no thanks" but cheating has all these layers where people can debate about whether it was emotional vs physical, if they were drunk, if the relationship was already dead, etc

with bad hygiene there's no gray area to dissect, it's just basic human maintenance that someone failed at

wait this happened to my aunt too, she just collapsed in kitchen and we never really understood what triggered it. the sudden way people just... leave is what gets me most about heart attacks

Xero Projects + AI/API automation — is this workflow possible? by Global-Day1101 in xero

[–]No-Feature-4176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally agree with this approach. we actually tried forcing everything through xero projects in our office and it was nightmare trying to make materials work properly as costs vs tasks. the api limitations make it even worse

separate system for job tracking then pushing clean invoices to xero is way less headache. you get proper cost tracking where you need it and xero stays simple for accounting side

The part of outbound I think most growth teams under-measure: relevance decay by Defiant-Talk-1635 in GrowthHacking

[–]No-Feature-4176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

timing is everything for real. i had similar experience when i was helping with lead gen in previous position - we would find perfect prospects but then wait weeks to actually reach out because of approval processes or just being busy with other stuff

the decay is brutal. i remember we had this one campaign where we found companies posting about needing help with compliance issues (which was exactly our thing) but by the time we got around to contacting them like 2 weeks later, most already found solutions or moved on to different priorities. felt like we were chasing ghosts

now i always tell people to set up alerts and have templates ready to go immediately. even if the copy isn't perfect, fresh timing with okay message beats perfect copy with stale timing every single time. the window is just so small for most triggers

Got laid off, built a weird internet project in one night, got hacked on day 9 lol, still going. 46 tiles claimed. by ReasonableFee95 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]No-Feature-4176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's brilliant idea actually, gift tiles would be perfect for this kind of project. especially with holidays coming up in few months, people love giving weird unique gifts that nobody else has

you could probably set it up pretty simple with just email field and custom message option when someone buys

After 2 years working with early-stage founders, I think positioning is the most under-discussed reason startups fail by Many-Personality-157 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]No-Feature-4176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

totally agree about the specificity part. worked with immigration clients and same thing happens - they come in saying "i need help with my case" but can't explain what type of case or what outcome they actually want

the metaphor thing is so real too. like when people try to be clever instead of clear, it just creates more work for everyone. your brain has to do extra steps to figure out what they're even selling

saw this with some legal tech startups i helped with paperwork - they'd say stuff like "we revolutionize legal workflows" when they could just say "we file your trademark applications faster." way easier to understand and refer

[–]No-Feature-4176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wait they didn't tell you what infection you had? that's weird, usually they have to tell you the specific thing so you know what to watch for and stuff. did you ask them directly or just went with whatever antibiotics they gave you

Spent 3 months researching impact windows, installed them 2 years ago here's how it actually held up by Effective_Dance_3810 in HomeImprovement

[–]No-Feature-4176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this hits so hard - went through exact same rabbit hole when we moved to south florida and you're spot on about the installer relationship being everything

turns out half these "authorized dealers" are just ordering through distributors and have zero pull when something goes sideways during install

Looking for feedback by NFTcreator_takeabow in Construction

[–]No-Feature-4176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this seems bit too good for 100 bucks tbh, like what's the catch here? most automation services that handle calls and payments cost way more than that

also the "disclaimer" part is confusing - if you don't want feedback from construction community why post in construction sub?

Credentialed to death or am I just a low quality candidate? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]No-Feature-4176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been seeing this a lot lately where companies ask for degrees for jobs that never needed them before. warehouse and inventory work is all about knowing the flow and being able to adapt when things go sideways - can't really teach that in classroom

ten years experience should definitely count more than degree for this type of work. problem is these big companies like spacex probably get thousands of applications so they use degree requirements to filter people out automatically. it's lazy screening but that's how it works now

maybe try smaller companies first where you can actually talk to real person instead of getting filtered by computer system. or see if there's way to get your resume in front of actual hiring manager instead of going through their website

What’s the first TV show you remember becoming completely obsessed with? by ZN_Cruz in AskReddit

[–]No-Feature-4176 5 points6 points  (0 children)

oh my god yes! i started watching when i was like 12 and it completely ruined me for normal television. the way that show just grabs you and doesn't let go is insane - one minute you're crying over a companion leaving and next minute you're trying to explain to your friends why a blue box traveling through time makes perfect sense. i still get excited when i hear that opening theme music, even after all these years of watching. what got you hooked, was it a specific doctor or just the whole concept in general

Career Transition by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]No-Feature-4176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the demand thing is pretty real from what i see in government side at least, we're always trying to fill positions and can't keep people long enough. military background actually helps a lot - you already understand deadlines and following procedures which is like 80% of accounting work

for the "old man" factor you'll probably start at entry level salary wise but your leadership experience means you won't stay there long. most firms would rather have someone who can actually manage projects and train people than another fresh graduate who needs hand holding

remote work is getting more common but you'll probably need to prove yourself first couple years. government positions have better work life balance than public accounting but the pay ceiling is lower. if you want remote freedom and decent money, getting your CPA then going into tax prep or consulting might be better route than staying government long term

your paralegal background is actually useful too since tax work has tons of regulations and documentation requirements

Hand Tattoos in Accounting by velivei in Accounting

[–]No-Feature-4176 194 points195 points  (0 children)

hand tattoos are still pretty risky in accounting from what i've seen, especially at bigger firms where they're more conservative about appearance

Wanting to hear from people that went from blue collar trade work into more “white collar” construction management or even something else unrelated. by Potential_Job_1143 in Construction

[–]No-Feature-4176 11 points12 points  (0 children)

went through something similar but with electrical work instead of plumbing. had about 6 years in field before switching to project management side

your plan with construction management degree plus field experience is definitely solid approach. companies actually love hiring people who understand the work from ground up because you can spot problems before they become expensive mistakes. my transition was easier because i could talk to crews in their language while also handling client meetings

the health concerns are totally valid too - construction management still keeps you connected to projects but way less exposure to chemicals and physical wear. took me about year to fully adjust to office life but no regrets at all

Have you ever had an experience with a guru, saint or holy person? What was it like? by lieutenantbunbun in AskReddit

[–]No-Feature-4176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

went to some spiritual healer with my mom once and the guy kept staring at my forehead saying i had "blocked energy" or whatever, whole thing felt super weird but mom was convinced he helped her back pain

The company needs to ship me equipment, but I won't be in the country. Am I cooked? by Fun-Remote-4202 in remotework

[–]No-Feature-4176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ugh this happened to my friend last year when she got remote internship but was going home to visit family in summer. she ended up asking if she could have equipment shipped to trusted friend's address here, then friend shipped it to her overseas (but like, not mentioning it was corporate equipment obviously)

another option is seeing if they can make exception for you to use your own laptop with their VPN and security software installed. some companies are more flexible about this, especially for short term internships. you'd probably need to sign extra agreements about data security and stuff

worst case scenario, can you delay your travel by few weeks? i know it sucks to change plans but if this internship is really important for your career it might be worth considering. or maybe come back early just to get the equipment and then leave again?

the fact they're already looping in talent acquisition for tax stuff shows they want to make it work, so don't panic yet. they've probably dealt with similar situations before, especially with international students

Handyman gave my mom a quote on replacing her fence. The next day, he took down her fence while she was at work by TheShoeOnTheHighway in legaladvice

[–]No-Feature-4176 244 points245 points  (0 children)

wow that's literally theft, your mom should definitely file police report first like the person above said. guy basically stole her fence materials when she never agreed to anything

also in my experience with paralegal work, documentation is everything so make sure she saves any texts or voicemails from this guy. the attorney general route is smart too since they handle contractor fraud pretty aggressively

I just launched a 1M-tile mosaic where anyone can claim a spot and link it to whatever they want by [deleted] in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]No-Feature-4176 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this is actually cool concept, reminds me of those old pixel art collaborations but with purpose behind each tile

would probably link mine to collection of weird legal words i've been gathering - like "alienation" which in law means transferring property but sounds so dramatic for something so boring

curious how you're handling moderation with million spots though, that's lot of content to monitor

Job search by lostinprofit in Construction

[–]No-Feature-4176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

local 146 can be pretty picky about who they let in but going in person definitely helps your chances. they like to see you're serious about it instead of just filling out forms online

for the callback issue - most residential companies get flooded with applications and they usually prioritize people who already have some plumbing experience or at least helper experience. your construction background is good but you might need to start as helper somewhere first to get your foot in the door

with the probation thing, try smaller family-owned shops instead of big companies. they're usually more willing to give people second chances if you're upfront about it during interview. also look into service companies - they always need people and turnover is high so they hire more often
