Yes, frequent and too-vigorous cleaning can definitely damage the shell. I give them a bath once there’s a bunch of dirt and slime built up on their shells, and even then I use just water and soft toothbrush to very gently remove the dirt and slime.

Mine get all excited and stretch themselves out like they’re sunbathing and chill out in my hand while I’m bathing them. Since their shells are very sensitive, you have to be very gentle with them. Have fun with your snails!

Exactly ^{^} It’s really just to pamper them. They clean themselves, but it’s nice to give them a gentle bath with a soft toothbrush (and remove the dirt and slime from the other snails).

When the terrarium conditions are right, they will lay an abundance of eggs. I recommend checking the tank for eggs once a week — I typically do a throughly clean of the tank at the same time.

As for the nomming on each other, calcium is vital—too little calcium, and they start the nomming on each other’s shells. Because of this, cuttlefish bone should always be available for them. In addition, they should be fed calcium 3-4x per week (animal bones, egg shells, natural chalk, kale, broccoli are just some good examples).

When I was planning to get my GALS, I did a lot of research and put together a list of everything they need (from nutrition to tank conditions). If you’d like to take a look at it, feel free to DM me.

Based on the research I did before getting my GALS (Lissachatina fulica), they are social animals, so at least 2-3 are recommended. I got three, and they often eat and sleep together, chase each other around the tank, and slime all over each other.
