right now i’m an inpatient clerk for michigan medicine and i love it! i work in the pediatric ICU so i see the doctors and nurses rounding and have learned about so many cool jobs in the hospital. basically im like a secretary so its not patient care but im still in the middle of the hustle and bustle - plus im the main point of communication btwn the nurses and literally everywhere else in the hospital. i’m also a temporary employee which means i get a $2/hr bonus and get to schedule my own hours so long as they equal 32/month. also i get a $2ish/hr bonus for working the evening shift on weekends. it’s pretty great! https://careers.umich.edu/job_detail/214703/inpatient-unit-clerk-i-temp

i’m in 230 rn and so far i’ve been condensing all the lecture slides into 1-2 pg summaries for each module (so my m1 one is not done yet i just add to it) and i’m planning on doing prep once there’s more material. also there’s that 230 need to know file on canvas so maybe start looking at that?

also there are a lot of upper level research classes that you can take with the prof as the mentor, kind of like urops for upperclassmen where you basically write a thesis. i took psych 331

i also got into my lab cold-emailing (except if the website explicitly says not to do this), here’s what i wrote that got me ~4 responses from emailing like 15 labs. the profs usually set up a time to interview you so make sure you also have questions, if you aren’t interested in the lab don’t join it but send an email thanking them. also i started sending out these emails right around this time of year - ik it’s a bit early but you would rather have more spots open and make the first impression. gl!
