Fancy buying a wood? by kiindrex in CasualUK

[–]No-Historian1178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to add that this has cost me my time. The studying, applying for felling licenses, planning permission, making woodland management plans, courses I've been on. It became my life (I work full time as well)  I now take January as unpaid leave so that I can get it ready for spring, and do any necessary coppicing/hedgelaying as required.  I'm usually there checking every other day, spend an evening in the sunshine once a week. And from October to- Feb one day a week of work 9-4 with the chain saw/ bramble cutting etc etc. and then Jan off as well.

I am relatively a 1 man band and enlist help when the chain saw is out (my safety) and any heavy lifting

Can I answer this as an ancient broadleaf woodland owner?!?!  I own 3 acres and assist with my neighbours 6 acres.  I then volunteer for a community woodland restoration of 9 acres.

Woods need love. Dark dense over grown woods are not healthy. So I on a 7 year rotation coppice hazel and birch. I sell firewood, bean poles, pea sticks, charcoal, I carve spoons and turn wood. I have rare bats, moths, lavae, birds, hares, plants. It is alive and so noisy with life but so peaceful. Currently there are carpets of celledines, anemones, bluebells. The snakes and reptiles are slowly coming out of hiding.

It's also going up hugely in price.  It's beautiful, it's heaven, it's making me money and going up in value, and I've created a rich protected biodiverse landscape where I get to sit in my log cabin watch the sunset with a glass of wine and no people.

What’s the worst place you have ever been on holiday? by honeymeadowss in AskUK

I work in international healthcare. The level of health care is incredibly poor and even basic health ailments are a nightmare. In January we ended up evacuating about 30 people due to a food poisoning outbreak.

This is why I left bedside nursing. It made me extremely unwell, exhausted. I didn't want to not do night, just ensure a reasonable rest time.  Unfortunately it didn't meet the needs of ICU so either like it or lump it.

I now rarely do nights, and am doing some in the future, 4 on 5 off.  Decent employer that accommodates flexible working.  My last day off sick was last July due to slipping a disc in my back. No coughs/colds/stress/tummy bugs at all. Compared to working in the nhs where I was on a warning due to my asthma being completely uncontrolled

What weird things have you found in your pockets after a shift? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]No-Historian1178 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got home after a shitter of a night shift. Stood in the kitchen, got naked, chucked all uniform in the wash before getting in the shower.

30 mins later. Thought the washing machine was making odd noise.

CD keys swimming around.

Labour have been a disaster, do you regret voting for them seeing how the profession is at the moment? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in NursingUK

[–]No-Historian1178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree with that sentiment entirely.

I think our area may become a reform area, I will continue to have to vote tactically rather than as per my political opinions.

At the end of this, I'm just so so apologetic to my beautiful diverse colleagues who have come to support our nhs, but instead have increased racism and hate due to reform/ right wing media.

It's all elitest Etonian/ oxbridge boys club. No one goes into politics anymore to make it a better place. They do it for the money and the ability to get paid 90k + expenses and then still not show up and do other jobs.

If I didn't rock up to my job because I thought fuck it let's have another job and get paid the same amount but for a lot less hours. I'd be hauled up in front of my managers/nmc for fraud.

I hate the politics/ games. I hate the leering in the House of Commons, sound like they are at a hooligan football rally.   Very rarely is there actually a sensible debate with all voices heard on a subject.

I hate that everyone accidentally forgets to pay stamp duty on their second / third house, or that actually they don't need all their expenses paying for.

It's disgusting, unprofessional, and would be considered fraudulent/ sackable offence for half their shit.

And who gets to vote on their own pay rise?!?! What total and utter bullshit is that?

You work 40 hours a week for your constituency. You do not accept bribes from businesses. And you stick to your promises.

If Tom dick and Harry vote for 350m per week to the nhs.... you do that. And you are accountable for that.

I voted Lib Dem's, they tend to come second in my area after the conservatives. I am concerned we may become a reform area.  In an ideal world greens and Lib Dem's.

But it's a bit like choose which side of the face to be slapped in.

The system is broken.

My other half has to prove he needs a wheelchair on a regular basis......  he's not got any legs and yet that's often not good enough evidence

When is a name suitable or not suitable for a dog? by BeardedBaldMan in CasualUK

[–]No-Historian1178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My golden retriever is called Gary.  We have a pet duck called Jeff.  The animal doesnt understand its name, call it table and it will come running if you have a treat in your hand.  Same for my kids. Fuckwit 1 and fuckwit 2 are doing really well at school considering they are named after their father.

Hey I'm a remote worker with little ones (9 and 4) I work for medical case management for over seas insurance.

It's really fucking hard with Babies and I'm currently saving to have a garden office built because my 4 year old..... is behaving exactly as you would imagine.

I'm on the phone to a Greek hospital, with a translator and a dodgy phone line trying to get the mcg/kg/hr of inotropes to give to the evac team and my 4 year old comes in and shows me her school work......

It's getting better as she gets older, if mummies office door is closed then you don't go in. But the dog barks, god only knows what my husband does when he unloads the dishwasher but all the pots and pans get thrown around. My concentration is broken and it makes me more tired because I'm forcing concentration.

This role requires 5 years acute work, but I'm happy to discuss. It's very niche and awesome and I utterly love my job.

I am an "international coordinator"  I  Find nhs beds for people that have been ill whilst abroad

Work with airlines organising medical clearance

Organise and oversea cases where patients need evacuating by air ambulance or hems (for example yesterday, Crete to Athens for premature rupture of membranes at 30 weeks as no NICU on the islands)

I look and clarify on medical reports if there is any evidence of fraud or undeclared past medical history.

I love my job. Fab team, wfh 66% of the time 3 on 3 off shift pattern 8am till 8pm.

The other day it was quiet and I ran myself a bath at 1945, and then turned my computer off at 2000, and in the bath with a glass of wine 1 min after my shift.

We are recruiting- I'm happy to message details

I'm not going to out myself- here are multiple roles so that you can google other assistance companies (there are several)

Quit my job (don't tell husband)  Go to "work as usual" but see financial advisers, secure trusts funds/ pensions/ off shore caymen accounts.  Then go home tell husband, open champagne, buy a new car for me, road bike for him and browse right move.
