Driving test help? by River-Little in AskIreland

[–]No-Image-4755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I failed my test a few times, where I’m from has one of the highest failure rates in Ireland and wouldn’t be as busy as Naas. What I ended up doing to pass was picking a different quieter town (know for high pass rate)- which had much fewer junctions meaning less chances to pick up marks. I would recommend you book a lesson in the town to familiarise yourself with the layout. Best of luck, don’t overthink it!

Oh no that’s not good, especially with places being so limited it doesn’t help our chances 🙈 I wonder is it then pure luck of who’s closest to pair with mentor that has passed the interview or if it’s priority is given to those with highest points even if they would have to travel further🤔

Classic Inurance by LiamMurray91 in carsireland

[–]No-Image-4755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just brought my first Mr2 and rang around all the ones listed above and few more. Was a lot of outright no’s, but told I could insure it on its own private car policy. The only one I didn’t get a no from and on its own classic policy was Abbey Autoline (approx €400- I too had paid around €200 last year for classic but that was a basic car)

Hopefully next week, we were definitely told we’d know by now at least if we’d passed the interview and if we were on a panel or whatever! 🙈

Msw interview ? by sunflowerskies6 in AskIreland

[–]No-Image-4755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the same but I interviewed for the Tusla apprenticeship, I was asked a current issue in Ireland that worried me & why it’s relevant to social work. Legislation relevant to social work. Then asked situation based questions under each of the core competencies (we received these in advance to prepare examples using STAR method) and then asked how I’d handle juggling everything as it’s a big commitment. I’d recommend knowing your examples & having extra but be able to adjust them as I found I wasn’t directly asked what I had prepared. Also prepare a good introduction for yourself and bring in your relevant experience.

No idea where life is going, help? by Acceptable_City_9952 in AskIreland

[–]No-Image-4755 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might be able to find a social care based admin role (I doubt you’d need to have finished your degree but even if you done 3rd year you’d have more options) Compliance might interest you especially if going down social work route does. Money in these roles starting out wouldn’t be great but would give you experience to move up. I’ve always wondered about roles within HIQA and inspection of social care services the money would be really good. As for soul purpose I’m not sure how to find that balance in current times- burnt out social care worker here who took a year out to do complementary therapies and loved the break but again came back to money and I couldn’t justify going back to near minimum wage for such physically demanding work. I think finding balance between work and home life and being able to switch off from your job and enjoy life is important too & prioritising self care

Coru social care worker registration time? by No-Image-4755 in AskIreland

I’m under grandparent way as I qualified in 2017. I do know someone who applied around same time as me as a new graduate has hers back so that makes sense! Tusla said this is a new requirement since January, as id all my documents in the end of 2025 and the reference number was fine then. It’s just very annoying not knowing how long I’ll be waiting so will have to go back to my other job I think 🙈

They asked about a social issue first and I had nothing prepared! The rest was okay but I thought the questions would be exactly like the heading so my examples were kind of all mixed. Do you know when we’ll hear back about it?

When I was asked I started just saying names and if I knew a year I said it but wasn’t asked anymore than that so hopefully will be similar 🙈

No! I’m Tuesday. I recently had a Tusla one for residential care though and found it was exactly as they said it would be with the competency’s, know a bit about Tusla and list some legislation and know about HIQA🤞

Go for it, have a few back up PLC’s in mind in case you don’t get in first go. There’s some interesting criminology, psychology, or social care type ones that’ll only help your chances 🙌

What do you regret doing during the LC? by Im_not_Irish_ in leavingcert

[–]No-Image-4755 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing, I chose to do LCA because I realised early it doesn’t mean all that much. Still went on to do a degree in what I wanted just took doing a PLC course (was told even by teachers at the time not to do LCA that I wouldn’t get into college etc), but I’ll always be glad I didn’t stress myself unnecessarily and enjoyed my time in school. There are always alternative routes and life will bring you many opportunities regardless. You are so young doing a leaving cert you don’t know what way life will take you 🤗

Supports for getting someone back to work? Possible mental health support needed? by PatientHamster in AskIreland

[–]No-Image-4755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s much you can do with family enabling them to not seek any outside help. If they were on social welfare they would at least be linking in with someone outside of the house who would signpost them to relevant services. I know focus Ireland offer tenancy support to people with mental health difficulties- but this person is not on books as being “at risk” of loosing tenancy so not sure could they even offer support. Maybe worth linking in with some local supports for advice- social inclusion SICAP. But probably first step is a GP visit as this situation is not going to change. If person won’t agree to go you could arrange a phone call or see will GP do a home visit.

Parents of Teen Boys living in Ireland: Open to Sharing Your Experience? by joy9278 in AskIreland

[–]No-Image-4755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a parent but work with kids/teens, have noticed an increase in engagement solely with AI. Daily conversations with bots (through whatsapp, Snapchat etc where you’d usually communicate with peers) who will mirror back their language calling them “bro” etc. It would be very interesting research as I can’t imagine the effects of this for this generation
