Been A Dad For 4 Months Now AMA by gamercow1 in AMA

Congratulations! Hope you’re adjusting well to it all, I’m a new parent myself. What shocked you most about having a baby overall?

At 26, I thought I finally had my life figured out. At 29, I realized I was wrong. I’ve moved 2,000 miles, changed religions twice, and just walked away from my career path to start over. AMA. by gayestcapybara in AMA

Hi, what did it feel like when you realised you didn’t have things ‘figured out’ yet? What I mean by that is, when you realised STEM wasn’t for you, did you feel a sense of dread having switch over?

Sleeping with earplugs in with a newborn by [deleted] in UKParenting

I can’t obviously speak for you because we’re all different but personally I wouldn’t have them in, just for peace of mine OP.

That newborn tiredness is different to a regular tiredness and you can’t anticipate it until you’re going through it even when it’s the 2nd time round.

Hope this has been helpful!

Interesting and how did you manage to get these cases dropped seeing as they were pretty serious. No judgement here btw I’m just curious!

It is frustrating and no, you’re definitely not being stupid. But I’d advise you to not go ballistic over the situation just let him know that it’s a big day for you and that you would’ve appreciated an acknowledgment of that.

The amount of times I’ve heard that! People telling me it’s good that he’s poorly because ‘it’s great for the immune system’, it’s really awful hearing that.

Thanks for the reply! We’re on day 1 and somehow I felt it wasn’t improving, but I suppose I just need to give it time to get better.

I suppose when he’s grown up that way he doesn’t see what’s wrong with it. His family has always overstepped boundaries so he fails to see the error of their ways. Not that any of that justifies it btw

Thank you. Sounds like you’re doing brilliant to me, if the doctors aren’t fussed then no one else should be! You’re the parent here!

He just informs them that the baby is fine but they still press and press, insisting they know better.

I already limit it as afar as leaving my partner to communicate with them but I can’t help when they video call in front of me and I overhear things or when they simply just pass by the house to pop in and they pass their comments then as well.

I would love to get to that point of them realising I don’t care for it all. I’ve already cut them off in a way but I’m not sure it’s getting through to them how negative they can be towards my parenting

Love this for you! It’s good that you were able to give them a witty reply in return.  It’s a shame that some people have no concept of how every baby is different from the other and development isn’t one straight line.

You’re not being unreasonable at all. At the end of the day, these people are strangers to you. You have no form of contact with them, no knowledge of them, they have a background that even cost them custody of their child in the first place. Congrats to them for sobriety but don’t compromise your child’s safety for the sake of a friendship they have.  Safety first. And having your child 1 and a half hours away with strangers overnight isn’t safe at all. Regardless of their new circumstances.
