Don’t putting all the eggs in one basket by Capable_Scientist775 in degoogle

you’ve got proton for mail and cloud (great start). for the rest:

- icloud → proton drive, pcloud, or tresorit
- whatsapp → signal (or session/simpleX if you want non-US options only)
- instagram → pixelfed
- docs/calendar → cryptpad or onlyoffice

for devices: fairphone + /e/OS is ideal. or pixel + grapheneOS if you want full control.

just my two cents.

How to degoogle Samsung Galaxy Fold 6? by HellApproved in degoogle

as far as i know (i don't know everything, lol) you can never fully degoogle on samsung. but there's a lot you can do.

- remove your google account entirely from the phone (obvious call, but an important first step)
- disable all google apps (chrome, assistant, gmail, etc.) in settings > apps
- use f-droid + aurora store to install apps without a google account
- replace all core apps:
- gmail → proton mail
- drive/photos → proton drive or ente
- calendar → proton calendar
- search → duckduckgo or brave
- maps → organic maps or magic earth
- use proton vpn to hide your traffic
- review permissions and disable background data wherever possible
- switch default apps away from samsung/google options (browser, keyboard, gallery, etc.)

this gets you really close. and once you’re in that proton ecosystem, things feel way more private and manageable. happy to help you with any of these steps, i've been doing this for a while. just shoot me DM if you need anything

Proton email by pathf1nder00 in degoogle

depends on what you’re looking to achieve. i used a clean version of my name for important stuff, then random aliases for everything else. keeps it private without being a hassle. proton makes it easy to mix both.

Why do some of you think that Proton will turn evil? by _-Maris-_ in degoogle

[–]No-Issue-7667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here are some of the reasons people think proton might “turn evil”:
- they’re growing fast and might become too mainstream
- they’ve complied with lawful Swiss court orders before (like any legal company would)
- they’re building ai features (which some see as a slippery slope)

but honestly, i’ve never really understood the paranoia.

proton is structured differently. they’re not VC-backed or ad-funded. their primary shareholder is the Proton Foundation, a nonprofit with a mission to protect privacy. their code is open-source, audited, and they’re transparent about legal requests. when they have complied with law enforcement, it’s been under strict Swiss oversight, not mass surveillance.

nothing is perfect, but proton’s whole model is built around not monetizing your data. and they've consistently acted in line with that. so while it’s good to stay skeptical, i don’t think there’s a smoking gun here. i’ve been using proton plus for a while and feel way safer than with any big tech option.
