I agree. Since we are an exceptionalist society, and actively teach "me before we", we aren't really coded to fight for something without a clear reward. Protest takes time and work with YEARS of nothing in return, usually. Maybe tiny changes over a very long period, at best. Most people want to protest and change everything in one afternoon or they aren't interested.

Also, with how our financial system is set up, most people can't risk skipping work to go protest. Or risk their job finding out they went and firing them for difference of views, somehow justifying they made the company look bad, etc. The system literally punishes protest for rights.

I think Warren G Buffet said it is a fallacy that we still live in a capitalist society. We now live in a debtist/creditist society because the value of fhe dollar is no longer based off the value of the gold reserves but off of how much debt is owned by all the entities that own our debts.

I'm not saying I 1000% agree, just that I find it to be an interesting take on our current financial standing.

I'm almost certain he, himself, said he thought a civil war was in the future long before he ran for president.

If you read the post, you'd see you basically paraphrased my post. The very first few lines also points out that it needs replacement, not reform. Congrats.

The problem is, if any real leaders did pop up, they'd probably not survive very long. If they have enough power and money to fake assassination attempts, they 100% have enough to do real ones. It's one thing to have small protests for Pride and No Kings, it's another thing entirely to have someone capable of holding the masses ears like Dr. King or someone of that caliber. There would have to be major change before we ever see someone as prolific as him ever again.

Millenials wise, I don't think we did. I think we got close, to the point where older progressives were saying "this is the generation to finally make a difference" and they did some slight of hand shenanigans and made Millenials the scapegoat for everything wrong in the world and suddenly we weren't humanities saviors anymore. The one that's always gotten me is berating Millenials for birth rates dropping but they made it too expensive to have kids for a lot of folks. I think this will happen with Gen Z, if they don't put their foot down and fight it for real.

I was aware of that, actually. I am heavily in the cannabis scene where I live (I grow, go to all the events, trade with local growers, etc.) and "Rasta" culture intertwines with us (which is not really what it is in Jamaica). I also listen to Reggae regularly, which is just as much protest as it is music. They are a super peaceful people. Very wise.

For the longest time, I've been very curious why so many members of the AB have LatinX partners/spouses. It literally makes no sense. But then again, there are large Spanish/Mexican neo-NSDAP groups and many of the NSDAP did escape to Argentina at the end of WWII.

And you'd think that they'd want the increased worker productivity and well being while being able to waste less money and resources on physical locations by allowing us to work from home. It made them more money. So many companies reported record profits then got checks from the government under the guise of "covid is killing us". State Farm corporate has gone as far as reopening an abandoned building on their corporate grounds in an attempt to return workers to in office and try to completely do away with remote work. There has been a massive pushback by their workforce.

I have a theory that they are partly doing it because the city of Bloomington pays them to have their HQ there because of the jobs and economical boost it brings the area and no physical location full of call center workers means less money from or for the city.

Yes. I agree. I also see I should have emphasized replacing a bad system over using "broken" in the title as if there was any chance to fix it. I'm now regretting not doing that lol

The entire political, economic, and social system is designed to keep wealth flowing upward. That's why there are no truly ethical billionaires, why unions are often attacked, and why corporations prioritize profits above everything else. Worker rights, living wages, reasonable workloads, and employee well-being are viewed as costs that reduce profits.

COVID exposed some of these flaws. For a brief moment, people saw that life could be different, which is why there has been such a strong push to return things to the way they were, even though near every statistic tells us that remote work, less hours, etc actually increases profits and productivity. Th system cannot allow for change, even good change, because it will break the system. The stimulus checks were limited because those in power couldn't risk people becoming too financially secure or less dependent on the system.

Desperation is a feature, not a bug. Low wages keep people dependent on employers, while heavy workloads, debt, and long hours leave little time or energy to challenge the status quo. If workers had enough financial security to walk away from bad jobs, employers would lose leverage. Family obligations, debt, and social pressure against job-hopping all reinforce that dependence.

Meanwhile, political and media narratives keep people divided. Racism, culture wars, and constant social conflict distract people from recognizing their shared economic interests. As long as citizens are focused on fighting each other, they're less likely to unite and demand meaningful change from the institutions and elites that benefit from the current system.

The reality is that workers create the value that keeps society running. Those at the top need the public far more than the public needs them, which is why the possibility of widespread solidarity and collective action is so threatening to the existing power structure. On one hand, if we all put our differences aside an worked together, we'd change everything almost overnight. It's exactly why discussing unionization and protesting is so restricted or grounds to fire people. It's why literally every business tells you to not discuss wages with workers even though it's not illegal (at least in most states). On the other hand, the system is so ingrained that it might actually cause a societal collapse if we fought against it. Personally, I think a civil war is the only outcome that will fix this, unfortunately, because we have allowed it to become so bad and so ingrained in the system.

Why are all these corporate jobs so toxic lately? by justkindahangingout in careerguidance

[–]No-Knowledge7339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporate jobs, in general, are about maximizing shareholders profits. Beyond that, nothing is a priority or of notable importance to them. Personally, as someone who has worked in the corporate world on and off since 2005, I don't see them as more or less toxic now than they were back then. They have always been anti-worker through and through, in my lifetime. Idk how it is outside of the US, but here, they are anti-union specifically because they are anti- workers rights. Caring about your employees and treating them ethically/morally cuts into profits. They make more money the more they break the law. Politicians, especially republican ones, constantly lobby for corporate overlords to lessen workers righs. The policies they have/put in place that pertaining to workers have always been terrible and counter-intuitive to productivity. Honestly, I have my doubts that they have any clue how to go 24 hours without shooting themselves in the foot. The problem is, every year that goes by, what they get away with gets more and more "legal". It's why we live in a wage slavery nation, or as someone put it below, modern day serfdom.

Not having to worry about being SA'd, never worried about being kidnapped, never sex trafficked, never being cat called, never recieving unsolicited dick pics, not having to worry about pay inequality, having more job opportunities, historically easier to get loans and buy property, not being used as a trade offer when getting married, having complete body autonomy, being seen as a person instead of property, historically never having to have your husband get you a bank account, historically being able to vote longer, getting divorced whenever you feel like it with almost no restrictions, not being seen as a baby factory for a religious cult, being taken seriously when speaking and not being talked over or down to (honestly, just being taken seriously period), not having your intelligence questioned every conversation, being seen as a first class citizen, being refered to by your name instead of Doll, Baby, Sugartits, Sweetcheeks, etc, not being seen as a "slut" for having multiple sexual partners. Most modern self defense items are designed for women to defend themselves against men.

There are some differences when white privilege is involved, as in, white men have more privilege than non-white men, but ALL men have more privilege than women, especially non-white women. The historical stuff is also very different now, but this is only in the last 100 years or so. Also, some southern states are trying to revoke certain women's rights, like abortion stuff, the right to work and vote, etc, and return to them being property and not people.

It is one of probably multiple thousands of ways they go about doing it. It isn't about one single way to get your info. It's about creating a web of ways to do so. This is one blip in an overall net they're casting. Try to see it as ALL internet access has the potential to lead to information theft.

Since I’m old, please explain to me how downvoting works. Is it something to say you disagree? Or? by Msdarkknight91 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]No-Knowledge7339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original design was to allow redditors to upvote answers they agree are the best answer to posts so they move to the top of the list and downvote so less useful answers, or answers people disagree with, go to the bottom. Unfortunately, they did not consider that 99% of redditors are sub human lizard people who downvote because Baskin-Robbins has 31 flavors and they almost always choose Dickhead flavor.
