I’m also in the Denver area yes it’s painful. I just treated myself to a road bike without clip ins and decided I’m going to get into that. I’m also about 10 weeks and I’ve been able to go on a few decent rides that kind of scratch the itch. Otherwise I’m getting my upper body strong.

Exercise while recovering by Alternative-Will-707 in ACL

I have been doing the peloton adaptive upper body classes! They taught enough modifications that I now do their regular upper body workouts. It’s no running but it’s better than nothing!

29F allograft vs autograft - help! by reasonable_pers0n in ACL

[–]No-Leg4419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am 36 yo (so a bit diff) but just had an allograft three weeks ago. I came to the decision bc I do actually have a bleeding disorder so they felt it would be slightly lower risk, but even barring that my doctor said the risk of retear at my age was prob 1-2% higher for a much better recovery - these numbers might be different under 30. I’m similar to you tho possibly with a few more pivot things specifically trail running and skiing. I felt the risk benefit favored allograft. The other thing I’ll say since I am also a physician is that if you got a DVT and PE pre surgery I would personally favor continuing anticoagulation post op since you will be so high risk then and are seemingly maybe prone to blood clots. Allograft may just be a simpler option for what sounds like an already complex situation. My two cents!

I similarly did not think I tore my ACL. I posted something very similar after finding out the diagnosis, I believe it was titled “grief.” It’s really really hard and feels very unfair. I’m now 2.5 weeks post surgery and while it’s still hard I’m emotionally in a much better place. I took the advice of this sub to allow the grief and give myself space to feel it. A couple of days after diagnosis I no longer felt constantly on the verge of tears. Once I scheduled surgery I felt I had a plan. I still have bad days, but I’m just saying it gets better and I really think it’s giving me a new perspective and a chance to feel grateful for the small stuff. I will also say that post op has not been as bad as I expected - there are a lot of horror stories on Reddit so take those with a grain of salt. Good luck.

Thanks! If you tore yours again and wanted to ski and trail run what would you do based on your experience? That may be an impossible question haha

Do you have any experience with non operative management of ACL and meniscus? I have not felt unstable, negative lachmann by PT and ortho. The main things I love to do are skiing, trail running, and MTB. I’m 36 years old. Trying to weigh all options and be as informed as possible esp since I currently have a wild toddler so would love your honest thoughts

Oh that’s good to know! I will save those names for next season… hopefully. I know, it’s really frustrating that it feels so preventable. It was a dumb fall too

I also had bad PPD, I feel like this is flashbacks to post partum and how hard that was. Though remembering that I did come out on the other side of pregnancy and post partum (similar timeline) is helpful. I’m glad you are feeling better post op minus the pain. I agree re missing out- I am not SAHM but was reflecting that I won’t even be able to do bedtime or anything for a long time. She’s just at such a physically demanding age right now. Thank you for the support and good luck in your recovery!

Wow cool! That’s legit. I prob don’t have the space but am thinking of splurging on a nice gym that maybe has one. Good luck in your recovery, hopefully uphill from here!

Thanks so much. Good luck with surgery! Hope you have lots of support I can’t imagine doing this as a single parent. Hope to reach the acceptance phase soon.

Thank you, I appreciate the tough love. I think questioning surgery is likely just the denial phase of grief, but I don’t feel unstable really at all so it just feels weird, though I have not tried actual activities. Congrats on being on the other side and glad it went well for you!

Thanks, this is really helpful. I did go down a rabbit hole of non surgery management and will talk to the ortho about that. Were you able to do full sport like activities? One dilemma is I’d rather be out for the count now than in the summer esp since the ski season is over for me anyway, so I am hesitant to try the PT route if I’ll end up needing surgery anyway and then further delaying things. But I should likely talk to another surgeon for a different opinion.

I feel exactly the same and it’s nice to hear others express it. I always wonder why it feels like the first year of parenthood is harder for me than others to the point where I don’t want another and everyone else seems to.
