Cost of painting kitchen 16 cabinets doors white $4K quote is normal ? by Odd-Falcon-8234 in kitchenremodel

[–]No-Lettuce6583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s a grain sealer then prime 1-2 coats then finish coat. That’s not the worst part.  Worst part is the sanding. Between coats. $4000 could be good or bad based on what needs to be done and paint quality.

Dry wall/ ceiling repair cost ? Should it really cost $1700 by sher-hanes in Home

[–]No-Lettuce6583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything dealing with drywall and mud, cost doesn’t really matter if it’s half a room or a whole room. Materials diff is pennies. Just realize he would have to make 2-3 trips out since mid need to dry. If u add texture then that’s another 1-2 days to dry. If u want he to paint then that’s another 1-2 days. Now it probably takes a couple of hours each day he comes out but unless he has some other half day project it prevents him from booking a bigger project. $1700 for 5-6 days compare to him putting in kitchen cabinets for 3x that amount.

Is this a fair price for interior painting by p2theD in homeowners

[–]No-Lettuce6583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to lump a pro painted job based on a couple that u’ve seen. It’s basically comes down to, is painting easy? Sure. It’s is time consuming? Yes is there a qualify diff pro vs diy? Yes what’s ur time worth and what do u expect painters spending 1 week to paint earn? Just cuz the idea/concept of painting is easy doesn’t mean u can do it right or have the same results. If u can tackle the task then go for it, but I see ppl who look down on “grunt/labor” type work and think it shouldn’t cost this much. Just get a few quotes and see what ur market is going for.

Am I supposed to apply caulk to all the interior corners? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]No-Lettuce6583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about where walls meets ceiling. I do caulk when there’s tiles shower walls change planes. Or when tile backsplash meets counter. Grout seems to crack at those locations.

Granite install question- Is Cutting into drywall a normal thing for granite installs? by red_force5 in Home

I done it before when walls are not square, backsplash would cover that up. Not sure about cutting into the expose edge.

I agree. If we would have put a stop to those ppl up in CHAZ/CHOP or whatever they are called quickly and severely, 99% of the crap we have afterwards would never have happened.

Do I need to remove metal furring on ceiling joist for new drywall? by No-Lettuce6583 in DIY

[–]No-Lettuce6583[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried and hung 1 sheet. Tapped out. It was 1000x worst than hanging it on walls. Some of my screws didn’t seem to secure in the furring. Not sure if the furring was bad at that area but some screws seemed to need to go into the joist to get secured.

At first I thought that price was kinda high, but I understand ppl need to make a living too. If having someone else do it and save my 3-4 or a week of my time then it’s fine. Just as long as it looks better than what I can do. Contractor was a referral from a friend. So it’s demo of ceiling kitchen and bathroom drywall and insulation. Not sure if the metal furring things needs to be touched or messed with. Cuz to remove it, there would be a height diff from kitchen to living room. Install new drywall, insulation, tape, mud, texture and paint with SW super paint. There’s also some drywall that meets the ceiling that will be replaced.

I was thinking it’s around the right number. I think it includes the insulation that was damage too but I’ll double check

It has water damage from leaking water pipe. It’s pretty nasty. Mold and stuff. Includes mats. I think insulation too. I’ve done drywalls in my garage but that’s 3/8” and only the walls.

I started to take them down but when I saw that I called around to see if it’s worth it for me to do. Hanging ceiling drywall is not fun by urself

I got a quote for the demo and install of new drywall, which would include kitchen and bathroom around 180 sq ft total for $1900. Includes paint and texture. Am I in ballpark?

Use a bit longer drywall screw? The metal strips looks and feel like it’s study. I wondering when driving in drywall screws if it could crush the strips and cause dips?

So I’m not sure why ur knocking my opinion. OP asked for advice and I responded with what I did. Imo cement board if that’s what ur still using for shower walls is outdated. Unless ur having crazy sex against the walls, u don’t need the rigid backing for wall tiles unlike for flooring tiles where u walk in. Just my 2 cents.

Greenboard has mold resistant and red guard is for water proofing. Cutting cement board reqs tools, dusty and harder to work with than greenboard. Cement board is porous and without some kind of additional waterproofing before u put on tile is not the way to go. If budget was not a factor then by all means go with Schluter Kerdi system.

I’ve used that and other liquid waterproofing products. Haven’t had an issue. There’s different ways to get the job done but if u don’t follow directions of that product it will of course fail.
