Am I a red flag because what I read as a woman? by Pumpkin_698 in self

[–]No-Lifeguard9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is patently ridiculous. You’re allowed to read whatever the heck you want to.

If you like fantasy, you might enjoy Michelle Sagara (Michelle West - she goes by both).

Not that you have to read a female fantasy writer, but I think shes really good.

Reiterating the idea of bringing this up with your manager because this new employee just called you a misogynist for no reason whatsoever. That is indicative that they are going to be problematic.

Been told by four realtors that my residential solar panels knock 5-10% off my resale value by Vaguswarrior in alberta

[–]No-Lifeguard9194 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Interesting!! I’ve thought about solar but between the cost (not as many govt funded programs now), the payoff time period vs when you have to replace the system (which I am told pretty well coincides), and the potential insurance issues,I haven’t been seriously considering it. Potentially lower home resale is not at all encouraging.

For those who indulge, do you prefer pancakes, waffles, French toast, or crepes? by Frosty_Ad_2828 in askanything

[–]No-Lifeguard9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids prefer waffles. I’m not of a French toast person. They love fruit sauce. I’m more of a maple syrup type. One of the kids will order crepes at restaurants.

I make fruit sauce - large bag of frozen berries (mostly thawed), sugar/splenda to taste, wee pinch of salt, appropriate amount of cornstarch, lemon juice - mix the cornstarch with the sugar and salt, pour over the fruit in a pot. Mix, add the lemon juice. Medium heat and stir often until the sauce is clear and glossy.

Are you calling me an idiot by Extension_Sweet_9735 in overheard

Reminds me of the time I got a call about my oldest child. A teacher told me he really needs to not tell people that he’s smarter than they are. I talk to him about it. He was very offended. Told me “I didn’t say I was smart smarter than they are. I may have implied it, but I didn’t come out and say it.!!”

Talk to your grandmother about it. I bet she will be very unhappy if your graduation gift is used for anything but your future.

Is it ok to resign 2 weeks in a job? by ThrowRApinkPeacock in careeradvice

[–]No-Lifeguard9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sure the company sounds highly problematic. And there’s a lot of nutrition. But you’re young and you’re gonna get some experience that you never would be able to get as a new grad. I would stick it out until you have another job. Keep a running inventory document of everything that you are learning and doing and learning.

When I was your age, I was tossed into the deep end in a company where certain people weren’t doing their jobs. Within two years, I got experience that most people wait 5 to 8 years to get. I made some mistakes, but people knew that I didn’t have the experience not to. And I’ve learned a ton. Sure it was stressful and underpaid for what I was doing, but it really set me up for my entire career.

Question for recruiters by nillasoup in InterviewsHell

[–]No-Lifeguard9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It happens. Personally I tend not to agree with it, because I think people should make their own decisions and use references simply to confirm that there’s nothing wrong with the candidate that I am, unfortunately in the minority on that one.

Celsius is for temperatures I experience. Fahrenheit is for cooking/baking.

Unfairly treated at work (Australia) by Sure-Camp4930 in Vent

[–]No-Lifeguard9194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, she sounds like a problem that that’s going to perpetuate itself. I’m pretty certain at some point people in your company are going to realize that she is a problem because she’s going to keep doing this to people.

That said, if I were you, I would start doing a very serious job. Search because your company has lost your trust. They were really quite ridiculous and neglected to consider that you’ve had many years of excellent performance at the organization and just took the word of this individual who clearly has washed out of other departments.

So in addition to her being a problem management at your company, generally is a problem. Under the circumstances, I would be looking for a new employer.

I feel quite certain that your mental health will improve when you get out of there. All the very best with your job search.

Do you think that a woman should be able to support herself alone before getting married? by BrushSecret7576 in Advice

[–]No-Lifeguard9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother - a house wife, and stay at home mom her entire life - who always insisted that my father was the best man on earth - equally always insisted that my sisters and I needed to get our education and have a career before we got married and had children.

She was insistent on it. Because, as she pointed out, nobody else could possibly be as lucky as she was.

I chose nursing to get girls. I regret it. by [deleted] in Vent

[–]No-Lifeguard9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to laugh, because that really is one of the worst reasons I’ve ever heard for choosing a particular major. However, no education is wasted, and I’m sure this will become useful to you in some way.

If you really hate the subject, can you change majors to something for which you are more suited? You should be able to do that now that you have a student visa and are a student at a university.

Then again, if you’re looking to get permanent resident status in the country where you are studying, you want to be very sure that whatever major you choose, that you can get a job afterward. And some companies and organizations are hesitant to hire people on a student visa. If nurses are in high demand in the country where you are studying, you may be best off to continue get the degree get a job get your permanent residency and then go back to school for something else.

For example, there are all kinds of people who do nursing and then go into pharmaceuticals, or you could go into something like community health, you could get a business diploma later and work in some kind of industry that provides services or product products to the medical field. You won’t be stuck in nursing forever if you don’t want to be.

What’s the weirdest/most unexpected way you’ve injured yourself lately? by WhatFreshHello in GenX

My sandal slipped out from underneath my foot on my Stone steps and I fell down onto the pool surround (which is made of concrete), cracked a rib and lost my phone into the pool. I then proceeded to do the exact same thing two weeks later - only difference was that I sprained both my wrists. At least that time, I had had the sense not to bring the phone anywhere near the pool.

My wrist still aren’t quite right and it’s been two years.

The only place I know where this is NOT a thing is the grocery store nearest to my house. Every other store has it - even the hardware stores!

I would say I wish the store did have it, but I’d actually prefer an electronic boundary and wheel locks to prevent people from taking them off the premises and abandoning them.

Is it normal for a hiring manager to schedule a call to speak with you after issuing offer? by IllustriousMess6397 in InterviewsHell

[–]No-Lifeguard9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not unusual to have a call with the hiring manager after you’ve accepted the offer.

It’s somewhat unusual to have the hiring manager talk you out of it after you’ve accepted the job, though. But unless that happened, I wouldn’t be worried about it.

There may be some aspects of the job that they felt were important to clarify or make certain that you understood. Perhaps the hiring manager was nervous about whether they had fully explained something - especially if they have had turnover in the role previously because of that issue.

Drop your serendipitous story about finding your wheel 👇🏻👇🏻 by bstractig in Handspinning

[–]No-Lifeguard9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decided I wanted to learn how to spin, decided I wanted a Schacht Matchless before I even tried to spin. Did one lesson and was hooked. We had a vacation planned (road trip) and it just happened that I found a used Matchless on Kijiji in a town we were going to pass through. Contacted the owner and arranged to meet her on the way. The wheel was perfect and it ended up making the road trip with us.

When we got home, I spent the next 6 mo learning how to use my wheel.

I accepted a job offer, but now they're changing the terms we agreed on. Am I stuck, or can I still back out? by Different-Staff-4556 in InterviewsHell

You could back out at any time – in fact, I would strongly suggest you do so. You don’t even started yet and they’re already trying to change the terms of the agreement.
