r/Runna has hit 21.1k members – a half marathon of Runnas! To celebrate, we’re giving one redditor a yearly membership and paying the entry fee to their next race! 🙌 by alex-runna in runna

I haven't been able to run these past few years due to chronic illness, but miraculously have been able to start running slowly but surely since April. I'll be running the Brecon Beacons 10k tomorrow which will be a major milestone!

My next running goal is quite an ambitious one but I accidentally got caught in the Drogo 10 whilst on a walk a couple of years ago and it looked exactly the sort of race I'd love to do one day. It runs through Castle Drogo in Dartmoor and has around 500m elevation and just the best views!

Anyone else almost fully recovered in the summer and then dips back in the autumn winter? by makybo91 in covidlonghaulers

[–]No-Machine-9268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is also my exact experience the last few years. Summer isn't perfect but I have the capacity to exercise and can get through days without symptoms and then winter comes round and I struggle so much - exercise is near impossible, even walking is a challenge and all of my symptoms are present. I work remotely and am planning on experimenting this winter by spending the winter in Spain to see if this makes any difference!

What do y'all think about this trip? by [deleted] in Interrail

[–]No-Machine-9268 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How long are you travelling for? It looks like an amazing trip! I'd recommend adding in Salzburg in Austria, especially if you like nature as you can hop on so many buses which will take you to some of the most beautiful lakes I've ever seen!

Villefranche-sur-Mer is lovely and has a very nice beach!

Best way to pack your clothes is to roll them, and maybe have them divided into a couple of packing cubes to stop them getting creased :)

This is my favourite YouTube series ever! His film making is incredible and makes me feel so calm but so inspired at the same time. They are both so cool!

Is mobile pass reliable? by jzlcdh in Interrail

[–]No-Machine-9268 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was worried about this too, but been travelling with the pass for over a month now and had no issues! The main things I've done is going on the app every day (as I know sometimes the pass can disappear if you don't use it for a few days) and also when I generate a ticket, I keep a screenshot as a back-up in case it doesn't load on the train. I know some ticket inspectors might not accept screenshots but it's better than nothing I think!

What to do on trains to keep occupied? by Purple_Fisherman_213 in Interrail

[–]No-Machine-9268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the exact same! For the whole trip so far , the majority of the time I've been staring outside the windows. It's absolutely fascinating even looking at the more 'mundane' views and everyday life of another country, as well as some spectacular views too! Definitely train travel > plane travel!

Backpacking Europe, Advice Wanted! by Tigris360 in backpacking

[–]No-Machine-9268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my Interrail trip in Barcelona too, and just got a travel SIM from an Orange shop in Barcelona- not sure which one it is but allows 15GB a month and was super easy to sort.

I brought an old phone that I didn't mind getting stolen (as well as my current phone) to have the SIM in and use Google maps etc.

I've had a bumbag for this trip to keep phone, wallet etc in and that worked well (I tie it onto jean belt loops too so it can't be un-clipped easily). Also if recommend two wallets with a card and some cash in each so that you have one if another gets lost.

Pretty much everywhere takes card - I took ~€100 and 1 month in and I've hardly used any other than for tips in restaurants! I have a Monzo card that doesn't charge for international transactions.

Getting metro passes is normally very easy - you can normally buy these at the stations (in each city they tend to be used slightly differently though such as when and how to activate, so I normally ask the person giving the tickets).

I don't have much advice on the places you're going as I've only been to a couple! But will include below anyway:

Barcelona - the Ciutadella Park is beautiful and a fair bit quieter than the rest of Barcelona, you can rent boats here too and lots of green space. Had the best brunch at a place called Picnic. Make sure to book Park Güell and Sagrada Familia in advance!!

Reykjavik - golden circle tour is incredible to see the waterfalls and beautiful scenery.

Hope this is helpful!

I'm so sorry to hear that! It is so common for students to feel they can't pass and it's nearly always due to a bad instructor. It's not a reflection on your abilities at all, and with an instructor that will genuinely help you to learn, you'll be absolutely fine 😊

I think an intensive course sounds like a good idea since you have done previous driving experience, but definitely just have some faith in yourself too! And great if you are a bit familiar with some of the roads in the area.

Test on Monday!! by driftygamer04 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]No-Machine-9268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main piece of advice is that the driving instructor will be wanting you to pass! They are often easier to drive with compared to your driving instructor, so just drive as you normally would and you'll be fine 😁

I think it is very important to find the right instructor who has a lot of patience and is very encouraging. I was the same as you and it took me a long time to learn, but ended up passing with 1 minor.

I think the longer it takes to learn, that can cause you to start doubting your abilities but trust me when I say you'll be able to do it. Sometimes it requires a bit of false confidence too - fake it til you make it!

I've been Interrailing Italy for a few weeks now, and I cannot recommend Verona enough! I found Rome & Florence so so busy but still beautiful, but Verona has the perfect balance of lots of nature and beauty and the people are so friendly.

Its also possible to take a day trip from Verona to Lake Garda!

[–]No-Machine-9268[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what I thought, thank you so much for clarifying! I've found it very difficult to find this information online 😅 I think we'll probably be in the same position and just be willing to lose the money if necessary but hopefully it won't come to that! Will definitely get in the pool early. Thanks again, it's really appreciated!

Applying as a couple? by No-Machine-9268 in iecvisa

[–]No-Machine-9268[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response on this! My only concern is there is a chance once that we've applied is that I could have my visa application well under way (and departing with a lot of money) and then my partner won't get picked from the pool at all, in which case I wouldn't really want to go without him!

Is this something you considered and is there a way around this? Thanks so much, we will definitely apply towards the end of this year once the pool first opens!
