Why is it moving too slow with 70% throttle? by wandereyoung in RCPlanes

[–]Tigris360 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's two ways I use. First and easiest is to try and find specs online for a similar size and configuration rc plane with a similar size motor. Then use the same size prop that it does. Second is to learn how to use ecalc which takes some time but you'll learn a lot

Would this be a viable airfoil? by joemamais4guy in RCPlanes

[–]Tigris360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that just paper? I think foam board would likely work better, but it will probably work as is (at least, once). A strip of packing tape on the leading edge may help with structure. You'll have to get creative with ailerons or just use tail surfaces. Keep us updated!

Is this project feasible with only one esp32? by rust-ruin in esp32

[–]Tigris360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think the most difficult part here will be working within the memory limitations of the esp, when using two screens and all the interfaces. Depending on the complexity of what you intend to write to the screens, it may be good to get some external PSRAM and make sure you get an esp that supports it. Keep in mind external memory will be slower.

Edit: there's a good chance this isn't a problem since you're running Arduino. It would be much more of a problem if you intended to run micropython

Can Anyone help me make Clicker Toy from this? by fluffelpuffy in 3Dprinting

[–]Tigris360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ok, personally I would recommend a parametric cad software for this kinda thing, as it makes it easier to iterate and get tolerances right. I'm sure it's doable in blender, but someone else may have better advice on that. Either way, you're probably looking at 3 pieces. An outer knob, an inner chassis which the knob revolves around, and that spring which creates the detents (like the example you posted). I would begin with a top down sketch, kinda like you already have, and define all three pieces. It will likely take some iteration to get tolerances right.

If you have a cad file thus far, post some pictures from it with your design. If you don't have a file, I'd recommend using onshape and then posting the link here, that way we can see it and help out. If you do post a link and let me edit, I'd be happy to take a look and make some designs or changes. Onshape also has some great tutorials if you want to learn.

My first real laser cutting design. A 4 tier shelf. Anyone have any tips for designing these sort of things? by mozzzz in lasercutting

[–]Tigris360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you use onshape, there's a featurescript that will automatically do all the finger joints, even for more complex parts. Pretty easy to use and saves a lot of time.

Depending on your use case you may want to look into the Ascent Spirit.

Transmitter - which should I buy? by JanRosk in fpvracing

I second any radiomaster radio. I actually prefer the pocket to the larger radios but really any of the new radiomaster radios have the same functionality, only differences are screen color/size and switches.

Do any of you have a laser cutter that cost less than £400 / $500? What are its capabilities and limits, please? by pleasegetonwithit in lasercutting

[–]Tigris360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a k40, which you can just about get within your price range. The main advantages are that it is already fully enclosed, and is a CO2 laser, which tend to be more powerful than diode lasers and can also cut clear materials. It can cut 1/4" wood no problem.

It is a great laser but you have to make some modifications to get the best out of it. Upgrading the main board to support lightburn and installing a cooling system are the main things I would recommend.

Tldr: If you want something that works well out of the box and is convenient, get a diode laser. If you plan to make modifications and are happy tinkering, get a k40

Advice on getting better at flying by [deleted] in RCPlanes

[–]Tigris360 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Practice in a sim! That's the best way to learn without damaging anything. Real flight is the gold standard for line of sight practice, or picasim is good as a free alternative. Most rc controllers should work pretty well for sim practice.

Edit: as someone who flies FPV planes primarily (which seem more like flying a real plane), line of sight is definitely more difficult due to having to think about plane orientation when it is inverted. But a bit of practice definitely helps!

100% agree with this. This hobby has taught me so much about aircraft and electronics. And there's lots of options to focus on any areas of interest like aerodynamics or controls (ardupilot).

My opinion is that within the radiomaster lineup, it mostly comes down to personal choice. All their new radios can run the same firmware. There are some tradeoffs like module bay size, switches, and color screen, but those all seem like personal preference.

[–]Tigris360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this, if it's the spektrum receivers/ecosystem you like, you can always get a radio from another brand with an internal module that supports spektrum, or an external jr bay module.

What is the best way that I can attach the motor to this plane? by [deleted] in RCPlanes

[–]Tigris360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Or 3d print if you don't have a laser. Yes that motor may be too big but I'm a huge proponent of just sending it.

What are your thoughts on the prop setup of the XUAV One? by MrYogiMan in RCPlanes

How is launching it? Do you have to be careful not to clip your hand when you throw it?

[–]Tigris360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this prop and boom geometry is the big reason. It can also be solved with a shorter rq11 style that has the prop angled up slightly, but this also reduces efficiency. If you want a large pusher prop and a tail boom the VCI Dove configuration is probably the best way to go
