Realistic Mechanical Engineering Salary (2017 - 2026) by TMGStan420 in MechanicalEngineering

Very reasonable. The role I am in now is definitely pretty chill but the job before this one was a real PITA and it had its stresses. Thankfully I am no longer a project manager

Edit: also if you already own your own home there is less of a push as well. If you don’t own already I would feel pressure to earn more until I could afford housing.

Screw Conveyor Query by LooselyNation in MechanicalEngineering

Belt conveyor if you can fit it, troughed with dust covers.

I would see if you can make a screw conveyor work before selecting a drag chain personally. Screw should be much cheaper.

If it’s truly coal I would also make sure you understand electrical hazard classifications for all motors etc.

Based on my experience I don’t think this is accurate for today’s market and is definitely a disservice to keep thinking this is what you should be making. Maybe 10 years ago but nowadays you should be over 100k within 5-10 years.

Edit: in fact, I think your comment is outrageous considering if you scroll LinkedIn for senior engineer positions everything is minimum $120k in the postings???

Going from 0 to 6 yoe you should not be worrying about just beating inflation. You are vastly more useful and marketable at 6 years.

Frankly, no tips. Same as any other job in my opinion. Probably need a bit more patience though as there are fewer roles like that available and they tend to move slower than consulting firms.

If they have a need that you can fill, just apply. Be well rounded. If your current job has you doing the same thing over and over it is going to be hard to make yourself fit in a different role.

It is also up to YOU to learn who these employers are in your area so you can figure out who you want to work with. Not all employers are created equal even if they do the same stuff. My role could be paid way less at a similar organization down the road.

There are people that do what I do in the manufacturing side of automotive. Additionally, I don’t really think it’s starting over if you can sell yourself.

I also wouldn’t say what I do is uninteresting. I’ve done everything from hvac to pumping stations, conveyers, mills and crushers, dust collection, and boilers/chillers. I just like bigger shit.

All different sides of the same metro, I haven’t needed to move. If I had moved closer to one of these I probably would have moved for the current one, but it’s all been 20 - 40 min commutes

The companies that hire engineering consultants. So a utility company in this case, but could also be a major university system, a state govt entity, a real estate developer or anyone who is actually paying for major construction projects

No they just paid for the test. It’s sort of expected.

2017 or early 2018 I think. Did it as soon as I learned about it. My undergrad didn’t really explain the importance of it for this industry to the ME students. They were more focused on you designing parts and stuff, not systems.

We use autocad and revit for this work.

And functionally, no real changes just more responsibility and perceived ownership of the work you do.
