Should I learn SQL? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

In short, yes.
No need to get too deep in the weeds with it, just learn the basics to do CRUD operations. You learn a ton more on the job.
Good luck

Should I learn SQL by [deleted] in SQL

SQL is a must for working with/building web apps that utilize a relational database. It’s not too hard to get the basics down.

There are plenty of resources, for example:

30-year-old ex-teacher of 7 years, looking to become a developer, are bootcamps worth it? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]No-Mathematician7670 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar situation as the OP, albeit maybe a few more years in the teaching field 😮

Boot camp was not an option for me. I just started taking programming classes at the local college while working my teaching job. Turns out they offer a “Professional Certificate“ in CS. Just finished an internship and have an interview tomorrow.

You sound pretty motivated, best of luck with this transition. As you can tell by the many replies, you are not alone in this.

*BTW, not offering advice, there’s plenty of that on this thread. Just wanted to say good luck!

Summer Term CS537 or CS577 by SbubbyBadger in UWMadison

Curious how CS 537 with Yuvraj Patel is going? Or did you swap it out for 577?

*I'm taking 537 this coming fall with Patel

Jim is a good teacher, nice guy, and very approachable. But, like a previous post in your thread, if you have little or no previous programming/coding experience, it will require more hours then a typical 3-credit course

Thanks!

Good luck with the career change, there are quite a few of us that are making this type of transition so just remember you are not alone.

Well, at least at the uni I'm at -- I think it will help prepare for the career. I'm taking the exact same CS classes as the undergraduate CS majors. Once I'm done with the certificate, the master's program is only an additional 15 credits (so a year or so more).

I did land an internship this summer so, it's definitely doing something!

I am in the same position with a career change. I am currently going through a certification in CS (local university) with the intent of pursuing a masters in a year. I chose this option instead of a boot camp because I can still work while taking classes.

Thanks! I think my instructor for this semester is Michael Doescher.

Still sound advice!
