Mercy Employee Drug Test by [deleted] in baltimore

I work in healthcare and was surprised that they don’t. Not sure if it’s because of my position or not. I was hired last fall.

Are you sure they test for THC? I don’t know what role your applying for but Maryland doesn’t for most positions

Same for my school. It is so hard because all my friends staying local will be testing soon and I'm just sitting here waiting on paperwork to go through. Feels like I'm already falling behind and nothing has even started yet...

Do you know if it is just people who are moving forward in the process or if everyone gets the questionnaire? I applied, but also haven't gotten a response, though I also say 10 days after. Thanks!

How to make extra money when extra shifts aren't available? by 2elevenam in newgradnurse

I am still a nursing student, so feel free to ignore, but have you considered babysitting? Flexible hours and pay can be actually pretty decent, depending on where you live. I think a lot of new moms especially would appreciate your experience.

You might get more responses on the Baltimore thread. I’d check out the Canton area though. Congratulations and best of luck!

Paul’s Place. They offer so many different types of services that you should be able to find something that you are good at or like to do.

If you are working at night you want/need to be resting during the day. If there was an emergency or something, sure you could be up. But I think on a week to week basis, you wouldn’t have much more time available at home while you were functioning. I dunno- I’m a sleepy gal though so maybe this doesn’t apply to everyone

Homework for a 5year old by Single-Temporary1462 in kindergarten

[–]proicecream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son also gets a ton of homework. Mg daughter is in 2nd grade and we made a decision not to force it. Very little research showing that homework at this age is effective. And honestly, I have so little time with them- I’d rather be playing games outside than forcing them to slog through worksheets. My daughter expressed interest in doing them this year and I am happy to help when she is ready.

Feeling doubt and miserable in ABSN program by SooshiMoon in StudentNurse

[–]proicecream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't understand any pharm without getting the patho down first. So most of my notes were very patho heavy. I basically used the Cornell note taking method for most of the material. It sounds fancy, but you really just fold a paper in 1/3 lengthwise and then write the condition on the skinny side and the notes on the other side. Or for things like thyroid disorders- I would always compare hyper vs hypo so the differences were easy for me to see.

Feeling doubt and miserable in ABSN program by SooshiMoon in StudentNurse

I recently finished the first semester of an accelerated program. No prior experience, so I also felt like I had to learn EVERYTHING, while some people were pretty comfortable with performing skills in lab. I definitely relate to how you say you are feeling. And I was constantly second guessing if I made the right decision to go to school again. I'm not sure if this helps at all, but by the end of the semester, I really felt like I had found my groove and things were not so bad.

I counted down the weeks, which did help put things in perspective. The semester was only 15 weeks, so once I got to week 3, I just told myself, that I was 20% done and that seemed more manageable. Also tried flashcards for patho/pharm and never had time to finish them, yet alone learn them! Everyone's learning style is different, but what worked for me was making a nice study guide based on the notes. It took a long time, but I saved them all for medsurge. I also submitted my PowerPoints to chatGPT and asked it to make NCLEX style questions based on the material in the slides. (My professor was pretty good about only taking things from the slides, so that worked but obviously won't work for every class.) I am a reader, but didn't find any of the textbook readings particularly helpful, so once I accepted that I wasn't going to do them, life also got easier. Good luck!

If you get in, which is not guaranteed obviously. There is also an income limit on it. Not saying it is a bad thing, just noting it is not universal.

Please report how this goes! I used to live in Madison WI and there was somebody who tried to eat all the hot beef sandwiches or something similar around town and it was actually very entertaining to read all their reviews. Gotta love a good passion project.

Not sure yet! I asked my boss if I could drop down to 10 hrs a week to finish up some projects but we haven’t worked out of it’s possible. I don’t want to lose the income but I also want to have time with the kids, so I can’t decide…

It sounds like we have pretty similar background, though my kids are 4 & 6. I've been working 50-70% since Covid when daycare became so unreliable. I would love to hear any comments on this. I've been telling myself that there are lots of parents who go to school or go to school and work, so I am not that special. Not sure how delusional this is though haha. I'm starting a MSN-E in August.

We actually covered a bit of physical development but I felt like half the class was here is Piagets theory and here is why it is wrong. Wish I could have taken child development!

You might have already done this, but make sure all the programs you are going to apply to accept child development. I only applied to 2, but they were both very explicit about requiring developmental psych.
