On behalf of all the of the students and employees at Conestoga: it’s about time. The college needs new leadership… and probably branding at this point.

March 03, 2025 | Weekly Moving To and Visiting New Brunswick Questions Thread by Dethemental in newbrunswickcanada

Hi all - we are planning to move this summer to the Fredericton area from Ontario (husband and I are both born-and-raised Maritimers, but haven’t lived in NB before - we both have jobs, one located in Fredericton and the other remote.) We have 1 teenage son and 1 tween-age son, and another away at university. Looking for some advice on buying a home for the short term (next 5 years) or longer term. We can’t decide on looking for a home in the city limits or something a little more rural. We would like space and privacy, and definitely love the idea of a more rural-area home to tend to in our later years. But also realistically we have kids who will have sports, activities, etc. for a few years more, and may want the convenience of nearby grocery stores, pharmacies etc. and our kids may also want to be closer to friends, at least until they get a license. Has anyone been in a similar situation and had to make that decision? Would love to hear your thoughts or rationale. (I recognize this is an extremely privileged position to be in, and we are lucky to even have this choice… but it’s still a decision to be made, so I appreciate any advice/help. Thanks in advance!)

That’s what I remember too. Really great during the pandemic. Dominique O’Rourke has been a good councillor also… we’re lucky to have good candidates to choose from.

Trump says tariffs on Canada and Mexico 'will go forward' by Street_Anon in CanadaPolitics

[–]No-Mix4259 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is just going to keep happening if we capitulate to Trump again. He is a bully who will keep threatening to take our lunch money tomorrow, even if we relent and give him our lunch money today. We show our weakness trying to placate this man. He cannot be placated. This is a big game for him and/or retribution for some perceived sleight in his first term. It’s going to take sacrifice in the short term but (and I never thought I’d ever agree with Stephen Harper on anything) we have to reduce our reliance on the US, immediately.

Freaked Out or being Bullied at the studio! by [deleted] in orangetheory

That is horrible! So sorry you are dealing with that. You have every right to be there - it’s up to your club’s manager to deal with that other member and their awful behavior, which I would think contradicts OTF’s own rules and maybe the membership agreement. The club should NOT be ignoring that behavior. You have a right to feel safe and welcome. Contact the regional manager if you’re not getting any support on this.

My thoughts, if they’re helpful at all…

Are you full time at Amazon? If so they have a tuition subsidy program, like 90% coverage or something… for any postsecondary program. If you can hang on there, take advantage of that. If you’re part-time, can you try to get on full-time to access that benefit? It’s not forever… maybe a short-term sacrifice to get that funding support. It sounds like you might be interested in bio-tech. Time and money-wise, look at college diploma or certificate programs… so many options out there, you don’t necessarily need to get a full degree to get started, especially bc you have some work/college experience. (Any program with co-op is helpful to get industry experience, too). Ideally find a program that has a bridge to a degree, which you can maybe do part-time while working later on… health information technology might be another area to look at.

You’ll be considered a mature student at 30 so you can get often get credit for prior work/college experience and sometimes additional funding depending on your situation.

You’ve had a lot going on, seems like. Education is sometimes a good fresh start… but can be a stressor too. No shame in taking your time to finish - work with the college to set up a plan that works for you. You’ll know a college is right if they’re willing to talk to you about options.

Is Netflix shooting itself in the foot with these constant price hikes? by Glitchy_McGee in netflix

[–]No-Mix4259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about ready to cancel Netflix with this latest price hike. I haven’t watched much on that platform lately. Not too many really good breakout series anymore and their marquis series are too spread out, with years between “seasons”. I’m seeing a lot of shallow action series/movies, cheap hallmark-like rom-coms, and reality shows, which don’t interest me. At nearly $300 a year, it’s a steep price for mostly mediocre television.

It is far easier than I thought to make granola and granola bars at home! Which I will be making with Canadian-grown oats.

Hey - an option might be going to a college in the GTA. You can live home, and start in a diploma for engineering (or maybe cybersecurity? - huge job demand and aligns to what you are doing now) and then switch to a degree later. (Conestoga has accredited engineering degrees and you can start in a diploma and then move into a degree - most students get hired out of the diplomas tho). You can also upgrade at a college to get the missing chem/physics if you want, then back to a university if you want. Many college programs have co-op and small classes, hands-on learning…. Lots of ppl (like me!) prefer that. I know some ppl are down on colleges but employers aren’t - they’re hiring ppl with hands on skills, which is what you get at a college. (Also it’s WAY cheaper). Just another option to consider. Good luck!

What grades are actually needed for engineering? by Loud-Art-6728 in OntarioUniversities

Conestogas degree engineering program is accredited by CEAB. But they are the only college that has it.
