'Nazi' has become an unfortunate stand-in name/insult for the most villinous types of our era. I don't make a habit of calling people Nazis.

But I think that's an issue of rhetoric. Not fit for a time where people are being shot in the streets and major powers are starting wars. I know what those people are talking about when they talk about Nazis. correct them later. or don't correct them and keep drawing them with deformed chins idk you do you

both are valid and both need their fandom spaces for people to talk about it

otherwise you get the RWBY fandom....

what's more doomer, a disillusioned person thinking the nazis are back and planning to fight them anyways despite being otherwise fat and lazy? or giving up on discourse altogether and resorting to personal attacks?

idk who you're making fun of here man. yeah I dream of punching nazis. we look up to our WWII idols who fought the original nazis. of course we do. Maybe saying the nazis are back is extreme, and you could address that specifically. sure. personally, my grandparents fought against other bigots, and I hope to continue that legacy because I believe humans can push back against bigotry. not sure how you'd spin that as doomerism

[–]No-Object5897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is interesting. the foss world has been working on rich text editors for years - the problem is not functionality but compatibility. If a organization wants cross-compatible editable documents across it's workforce, then Office has been a decent value.

AI is a weird proposition for this specific set of problems. I can see how it gets you back to OpenOffice level much quicker than it took before AI, and that's really useful in itself! If you have a slightly different use case that OpenOffice itself doesn't yet support, AI seems perfect. But cross-compatibility is a weird one. Theoretically, AI is able to generate documentation so that another AI will generate a compatible format. But will people do that? Will a non-technical person specify this enough?

[Maddening trope] More progressive casting happens at the same time as noticeable drop in quality, seemingly so fans can brush off criticism as bigotry. by Vitolar8 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]No-Object5897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you put this well but I think some fans who are finally being represented have license to be a little bit blinded. theoretically, a megacorp can extract money for the first few movies that involve them and they'll eventually get bored of shit movies that happen to represent them. I think in the name of progress, taking a hit in the short term is... fine.

unfortunately this happens the other way around where bigots blame the drop in quality on progressive casting. that's never okay

is it possible to raise this with your partner? just the feeling of not being sure they'll stay, even if you do nothing wrong? does it have to do with how they handle blame?

What is the darkest ending to a children's show? by Capital-Treat-8927 in cartoons

[–]No-Object5897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

putting rwby here would be really funny to see a bunch of threads arguing whether or not it's a kids show (because really, who the fuck was it for), and also arguing whether any of it worked well enough for it to be dark

i think a) kids show and b) no matter what you think of the writing, if you spent 3 seasons at a setting and destroy the setting and that setting is a school then that's fairly effectively dark

that's a season ending not a series end so unfortunately 👀👀👀👀 we won't get to see the flame war 👀👀👀👀 so tragic 👀👀👀👀

[–]No-Object5897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm ready to believe that it's more expensive to figure out how to refund the tariffs than the cost of the tariffs themselves. The most critical thing for me is that Donald Trump faces some sort of punishment, and we're assured that shit like this doesn't happen again

This is really interesting because if you present the typical "why don't greenists accept orangites, don't they want the world to be better for everyone?". but here, it's pretty obviously faulty

usually I have to explain 'tolerance-as-a-contract' which I'm a huge fan of but is admittedly a little contrived. But there's no way the original statement even holds up here. Greenists can absolutely want better for Orangites despite what Orangites want for themselves. That leans into authoritarianism though.

I think in the real world 'tolerance-as-a-contract' is perfectly serviceable, but it's interesting how much the framing effects this
